Well technically we are in Moranbah (or as my bro calls it Butt Fcuk Junction) Queensland, but due to a lack of reliable Internet access in Africa we were unable to keep the travel blog going. So instead here is the lowdown of our African adventure....and what an adventure it was! Tanzania It all kicked off with a very dodgy taxi from the airport in Dar Es Salaam. The windscreen was taped on and the wheels must have been bald as everytime we braked or rounded a corner the squealing noise and fishtailing was very scary. Alysha's introduction to Africa was a little rough and she would have been justified in feeling more than a little concerned. However, she took it all in her stride and once we reached our beachside accommodation we were able to ... read more
Hallo china plates After a plane ride listening to a husky Australian girl telling of her escapades at beerfest, we made it back to London town. To our surprise we were met by a friendly customs officer and we were able to pick up our luggage with ease - typical that it takes our last entrance into the Uk to have a good experience. The sun was out on our journey back to Bath and I have to admit it felt like we were arriving back home. We arrived at our residence for the next 10 days; an apartment that Kibby's friend kindly lent us while he was surfing in Spain. Being back in Bath we assumed that things would just be easy, relaxing and run smoothly... Max's bubby was due on 12 September and we ... read more
Guten tag fella and fellaesses Sausages, pork knuckles, pretzels, chocolate and beer...these are a few of our favourite things, which is lucky as they were a part of our daily life here in Germany. With a week full of visiting, sightseeing, eating and shopping you would have thought that we would have been too tired to have enjoyed a typical german birthday party, but as usual we gave it a shot. I made my first ever (unaided) pav, (as yet no one has become ill so in my book that is a success) Kibby ate more than his body weight in pork & chicken and also managed to learn the art of pouring a german beer...surely that is it? I hear you ask, well no actually it´s not. Kibby also attempted to snort tobacco...not as easy ... read more
Guten tag Neuseeland und dem Vereinigten Königreich We have arrived in Ingolstadt, Germany where we are staying with Manfred and Vanessa for the week leading up to beerfest - in Munich on Saturday! We have not made an entry on our travel blog since Croatia and have done quite a bit since then so here is the low down. Firstly I would like to say that the Croatians are very clean people who obviously have heard of and use deodourant regularly...bless! We left Hvar with fingers crossed that we would be able to take a connecting bus to Mostar, Bosnia and what do ya know, no problem at all. Kibby purchased the somewhat exorbitantly priced tickets and we ran to the bus station, only to find that if you wnat to put luggage on the bus ... read more
Hello friends, whanau and any geezers reading our blogs Firstly I would like to give a brief explanation of one of the terms that we have coined since the beginning of our travels. 'Smelly dude' - this refers to a person who has very poor personal hygiene and generally needs to take a bath and apply deodourant. Kibby and I took an overnight train from Thessaloniki to Belgrade and we booked beds as we left at 4pm and were scheduled to arrive at 5am. We found our room only to realise that we were also sharing with 'smelly dude' from France. This guy was priceless, one of those revenge of the nerd type clones, travelling alone and way too concerned about keeping everything he owned in sight (he checked and rustled his gear regularly through the ... read more
Howdy Folks Today is our last day in Greece so thought we should give you the low down on what we have been up to. We had a great ferry crossing from Ancona, Italy to Patras, Greece. The seas were really calm (nothing like the Cook Strait) and we sat in the afternoon sun drinking beer, writing postcards and playing cards. Very relaxing and a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Roma. Had a bit of a mission trying to find some accommodation for the night in Patras and found that door knocking works really well (i.e. you dont always need to book in advance on the Internet)! Walking through the streets we saw a gang of youths being chased by the cops. It was rather weird as the youths appeared to be enjoying ... read more
Hey Gang It has been a while since our last entry so thought we better take some time out from our busy schedule to give you all an update. We have now reached Greece, but have not made mention of Italy so will do that now! Actually we will start back in France and Nice where we stayed for one night after Avignon. Nice? Um, not how I would describe it at all. We arrived and on route to our accommodation we witnessed a small drug deal take place...that's fine by me, still not the best first impression but after seeing where we were going to stay I was comtemplating hunting the dealer down myself! Kibby said he wouldn't have let his dog sleep there and needless to say our review of the place says that ... read more
Bonjour tout le monde Kibby and I have just made it through our 4th day in France and I have to say we are doing quite well - I can't believe how much of my 6th form French lessons I can remember - see Mum my school trip to Noumea was worth it. In Montpellier we found a sweet little cafe with seating outside on the street and managed to order crépes. There was a little plate envy going on but Kibby did admit that it was the best crépe he had ever had, which I found funny considering he has one every morning We are now in Avignon: a cool little city surrounded by a huge castle-like wall. There are street performers and markets scattered around, although this seems quite common in France. Obviously there ... read more
Hey Gang We arrived here in BCN on Monday morning for what was suppose to be a two day visit before heading east towards the south of France. We decided to extend our visit by one day to get a bit more of the sights in and then we extended for a further two days as we could not get any accommodation in France! This made us somewhat nervous in terms of forward booking accommodation, but it seems now that it was a once off glitch due to public holidays in France, and hopefully things will be a bit smoother from here on. Tomorrow we haed for Montpellier for 2 nights and then 2 nights in Avignon. Had a bit of a shaky start to the trip on arrival here in BCN. The taxi driver fully ... read more
