Happy Easter
We have enjoyed your blog so much and what a great way to keep up with you both. Since we have had such great weather this mini winter and spring we have enjoyed being home. We have our routine of working out, bridge, walking in preparation for the Big Sur walk the last sunday of april, gardening and seeing friends and family. The Griggs had quite a large advertisement in the Herald yesterday, sat. the 7th of april featuring the baby. Quite cute and thought you might be able to bring it up on the computer. I think I will keep it until we hear from you. Actually we went out there several times to purchase spring flowers. We will be going to Stillwater Cove at PB for Easter Brunch with friends and we will look out at the ocean and pretend we are at the table at the back of the ship eating with you. I wonder who your favorite hostess, waiter and sommelier is. We are receiving alot of cruise literature but nothing has turned our wallet!!!!!!! Had Kelly look up something for the Baltic Sea but sept is too soon. Will be taking Nathan and Hayley to Europe to do a WWII trip with Bryan. Nathan chose the itinerary and after flying into Paris we will do Normandy,Honfleur, back to Paris for a few days, on to Switzerland where we hope to ski at the Jungfrau. We will stay in Murren and look out on the Eiger and Munch. Toss in some extreme sports and then off to Germany. Sounds fun. What a different part of the world from what you have seen.Doug's getting his gear in order to go salmon fishing tomorrow. ..suppose to be a bumper crop of salmon this year. Hope to see you soon after your safe arrival home. Forgot when that will be. Any Glenmore sightings? Must find my easter eggs and get my hat on. Miss you and always look forward to hearing from you. love to you both, annette and doug

KU comes in 2nd at NCAA
While you are out cruising, we are doing some serious cheering for KU. We must not have yelled loud enough because they came in 2nd tonight. They have always been a come-from-behind team so I thought they might pull it off. They had a great season and were never expected to amount to anything. I will retire my KU shirt for another season. Sandy

Waxing philosophical
I was very interested in your overall impressions of poverty, fences and the two worlds that seem to exist in S America. Interestingly, I had the same impression and comments regarding our African adventure. I think that these problems exist pretty much around the world and it all just serves to make us realize how fortunate we are to live in the good ol' US of A. Even at its worst, poverty here does not even begin to approach the depths that we have seen in our travels. I'm not sure what the answer is, but clearly this is a world issue that must either be resolved or else in the longer term it will crush the social structures as we know them. Nice to have some thoughtful consideration of the bigger issues -- it makes a change from cathedrals and castles! We share your enthusiasm for S America and have it in our sights for a future trip. Glad you enjoyed the S America experience -- enjoy the Med too!! We look forward to following your adventures from the comfort of our own living room!! Henry and Tessa

Amazon
Great journey, and great descriptions. Loved the sloth, capybara, and anaconda! Manaus - fabulous! So much history. Read "The Weeping Wood" by Vicki Baum. Really puts a person right there in the rubber jungles. If you can't put your hands on a copy, will loan you mine. It is ca: 1942, but a great history of rubber and rubber/robber barons. Carry on, you two! Take it all in, for as we all know, we only go 'round once. Carol

Terrific Photo
Hi Susan and Kevin I still read your adventures with jealousy. Your picture "View of the Mariner (from Ille Royale)" is one of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen. Mike :)

Interesting Amazon facts
That's some river. Patty saw a small portion of the western Amazon while on a trip to Machu Picchu. I get all my worldly thrills vicariously, thru you two and Patty. I'm in Augusta this week for the start of the Masters. Let me know if you pass the guy in the canoe, paddling his way west across the Atlantic. I think they last saw him in Antigua.

WOW! He had some pretty good looking gals handing around him Not bad for that age.
I read a book not long ago about the Amazon and it was an amazing read. What a trip you two are having - hopefully, you'll have some photos with you when you return. I'm gong to help your tenant wash your boat - not now - it's been raining for almost two weeks. Glen and I will do it, hopefully, it will be shiny when you return. Take care!! Alan & Carol

I WAS AMAZED!!!
This was a wonderful blog regarding the Amazon. I am amazed that the Mariner could go so far up the river. This was truly a lesson for me. I never realized it's size. And the pets.....children will have pets where ever they can find them. Thank you for this armchair trip up the Amazon River!

Fascinating!
I was so unaware of some of the fascinating facts you have shared about the Amazon. 200 miles wide in some spots! 12 foot waves! What an incredible journey you've just experienced - it's just been bumped up on my to-visit list.

Equador
Just read your blog today and received your kind info on Equador (It was dated in January). I'm not taking Spanish anymore but might have to take the brochures to my Spanish teacher who has moved on to Spanish 2 and 3. Thanks for thinking of us. We just returned from a 5-day trip to Sioux City, Sioux Falls Okoboji, Sioux City and Omaha. The weather has been incredibly warm but was very rainy the past 3 days, not as rainy as in the Amazon however. The ice is out of Okoboji but I wouldn't want to put even a toe into the water. I've enjoyed your blogs on South America. The immenseness of the continent is eye-opening. We are into March Madness. KU is still in. Sandy

Fond memories
Even though we're home and the laundry isn't even done yet, your experiences on the Amazon have us thinking..... that is one trip we'd like to do again! We only got as far as Santarem on the Prinsendam and would like to go all the way to Manaus. You seem to be having a great trip -- keep the reports coming!! Tessa & Henry

What a treat to visit this city. Spectacular places and some a big under-the-weather
Last week Glen and I spent a day in The City after we got Carol on a plane fort Idaho. We drove by the pier that is causing a great stir in SF because it's about to fall apart and drop in the Bay. Lots of controversy regarding it's rehab for the America's Cup. Some of your pictures make Carol and I want to fly there - magnificent no less. And of purse, Carol likes to buy "stuff" so I'm certain that she would wander to sellers of jewelry. It was nice that you guys got to sneak into the harbor before the fog appeared and what an experience that you got to tour many places. We're looking at world places that we might be able to afford to go to - what lifestyle you two have. Best regards, Alan & Carol (who arrives in SFO tonight at 7:15PM - thank goodness!)

The Rapture & Christy's photo are both beautiful
I have taken Christy's photo and made it the "desktop" for my phone. I'm trying to make it the desktop for my computer but I'm technology challenged. Interesting that that amount of people boarded the ship - do they have that kind of money to travel on your ship? Carol andI I hope to be here in March, April, May and June for 10 day stays. It's winter and warm so who knows what it will be like in Summer? The other night your tenant got seasick with strong winds and rain - I didn't but I had a hard time sleeping. Mana and Tortuga are pretty well protected by being close to the shore - Glen's boat really rocked a whole lot. We are into the jazz events in downtown Sausalito and looking for other events that come up. I went to the gym with Glen the other day and couldn't left my arms the next day. Carol "lot her butt" because she's been going to her gym 3 plus days a week. Good looking lady at 67. Cruise & Cruise. Alan & Carol
