Very quick blog today since most of the day spent travelling.Awoke in Broome to torrenial rain slight thunder but luckily cleared up fairly quickly. Was glad that we had gone to Britz the day before and asked them to fix the leak in the poptop roof Prior to refueling dropping off the truck we took a drive out to Gantheaume Point at the southern end of Cable Beach to visit the dinosaur f

Day 18 Broome

Our last official full day in the Kimberley very sadly but still lots of things to go and see in Broome. The weather forecast was not looking too great with thunderstorms predicted and the sea kayaking trip we'd booked to go on for half the day at Turtle Bay was cancelled. With the weather not looking too hot and after our experience of leaking canvas poptop in Derby we headed off to Britz to

Woke up on Sunday to finally no rain falling stopped round about 6am Great news with the puddles in the campground quickly drying up. Unfortunately the the corner of the poptop roof did end up leaking during the night but the poly sheet toilet paper plugs did soak up some of the wet. Prior to leaving we heard from our next door neighbours at the campground the cleaner that all side roa

Day 15 The Buffer Day in Derby

Today I'm calling the Buffer Day as we should only have got into Derby today we allowed an extra day along the Gibb River Road for travel delays breakdowns which we didn't end up using hence into Derby a day earlier than planned yesterday. What a day though The light rain from late yesterday afternoon has not stopped and has been torrential all day. Once we saw the weather we quickly r

Made an early start and were on the road by 830am heading back to the Imintji aboriginal store to try fix the fridge. Luckily they had exactly the required fuses we needed and Grant replaced in the battery so fridge now back in working order. As it was only down overnight most of our food seems fine which is good.Couldn't resist some real coffee either seeing as we were there so a flat whi

After a peaceful night at the Manning Gorge campsite we got ready to go and visit the Manning Gorge Falls. This was futile though as at the beginning of the walk there were 2 options 1.	Swim across the river approx 150m2.	Walk around the river and across the creek. However at this time of year the creek was not very empty either and this would also have involved getting quite wet wading

A day of mainly travelling further on the Gibb River Road back towards Derby Broome. The donkey heating system worked perfectly this morning at the campsite at Ellenbrae even though Grant I lit it only about 20 mins before having a shower. The water was beautifully warm just right with no need to any cold water to it.The road today was mainly in good condition slightly rutted in place

Sadly had to check out of our luxury riverside bungalow this morning at El Questro. Took ages to pack up the truck and fit everything back in it again its like a hard jigsaw puzzle once you have a system for where everything goes you need to stick with it otherwise you will never locate anything again Before we left we decided to do a walk up El Questro gorge which was recommended i

Day 9 at El Questro Wilderness Park

Another day in relative luxury at the bungalows at El Questro with a lie in until 9am Yipee. Whilst we were having brekkie there was a bit of a commotion in the undergrowth just near our bungalow deck and next thing we had a Mertens water monitor lizard in very close proximity to us. He was cool and even posed for some photos.Spent the day exploring round the station. In the morning we se

Relatively long lie in this morning until 645am it seems the Asians next door at the campsite who we think are fruit pickers were having a long lie in for a Saturday. Whilst Grant filing up with diesel I went and had a look at the Celebrity Tree Park in town which was opposite the campground. The sign explained that the township of Kununurra ask visiting celebrities to plant a t

A sightseeing day today in Kununurra which meant a bit of a sleep in and time for some porridge for breakfast.First stop was the Zebra Rock Gallery which was about 9kms out of town. Zebra Rock is a sedimentary rock only found in the Eastern Kimberley millions of years old and as the name suggests looks like a zebra. They had some great pieces of work vases jewellery plates mini Bungle B

Rather uneventful day with more driving on tar seal from Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek.Camp site overnight was great Tarunda Caravan Park with only 8 other punters besides us. Good clean facilities nice grassy area at least in early May.The old couple next door were towing a caravan from Perth to Darwin accompanied by their tabby cat.
Our trip has finally started after getting to Broome yesterday afternoon around 1pm ish. YEE HA.Flight from Sydney took 4.5 hours should have been 5 but seemed a lot longer as we were squished into relatively small plane 737800 coupled with domesticity of having to make a shopping list menu for the first few days of our trip.4WD is all good Grant seems happy that it has a lot of torque
