It's October 12, 2006, about 4.5 months since I was on this amazing 2 month trip to SE Asia. I look back at my e-mails and sense a tone of negativity but in retrospect, I never felt like I did not want to be in any of the places that I was. The trip was frustrating at times but many more times more amazing and just simple unbelievable at times. Everything that I experienced was a challenge to my comfort zone. Now, I take every moment to remember and savor parts of the trip. To me, travelling gives me the chance to sit back and observe my surroundings and be aware of my own actions. Being in this part of the world also opened my eyes to what I should be appreciative of at home. It ... read more

E-mail #5 Burma tops the list! Sawadeeka everyone!!! I am back in Thailand after being incommunicato in Burma for the last 2 weeks! As you can tell, I am well and alive, and I had wonderful experiences in Burma. I hope that everyone is doing well too! SO, why you ask does Burma top the list. Well...here are the categories that Burma took the "top 1" spot for: Best Cultural Experience - By far, Burma offered the most culture out of all the countries that I have ever been in in my life. The best way to describe it is "surreal". The country was and continues to be so closed off that it is like stepping in a time machine. All the men and women wear "longyis" which are sarong-like skirts. Women also decorate their faces ... read more

E-mail #4 Keep on rollin'... Hi everyone, Hope everyone is doing well. I hear that the sun has finally shone in Vancouver..I'll cross my fingers for you and hope that it will stay from now through the summer! All is well in Asia. I managed to fight off the dirty food out of my system and I have been stung so many times by mosquitoes now that I think that I can produce an anti-sting remedy from my blood. #$%@ I hate mosquitoes!!! I am presently in Cambodia and love it! Today we rented pedal bikes and biked from 7-4pm amongst the ruins around Angkor Wat. For those who don't know, the Angkor Wat site is comprised of a number of temples (wats) built from the 8th to 12th century by the Khmer kings and its ... read more

Update #3: Laos never got any easier Laos was one hell of a trip and I am sooo glad that I am not there anymore. For what it had to offer which was pretty scenery and some temples, the travel was simply not worth it. It all started with a 6 hour bus ride from Vientiene to Vang Vieng where we spent 2 days hanging out. From there, we were looking forward to some time in Luang Prabang which is a UNESCO heritage site known for its excellent preservation of its historical monuments. BUT, in order to get there, we had to take a 10 hour bus ride on a windy hilly road in a supposedly air conditioned bus but of course it wasn't and it was 30 degrees outside. Luang Prabang turned out to be ... read more

E-mail #2- New Country, New Explorations! Hi everyone! Since my last e-mail, I am certified to scuba dive to 18m, participated in Songkram (new year) water/ talcum throwing rave/ parties in Bangkok, and finally left Bangkok for Laos. We are presently in Vang Vieng where there are stunning views of limestone caves. Laos is much different from Thailand. In Thailand, you see all the things that you would expect to see at home and everything happens on time, on schedule. In Laos, it's like entering a third world country. Much of the trip to Vang Vieng, I saw poor (by our standards) people living in bamboo huts. Vang Vieng is a rapidly changing little town, attracting many tourists. This region is just ripe with beauty! Unfortunately, the Laotian people have not quite grasped onto the concept ... read more

Hi everyone. First of all, I am totally lying about the Diary Date. As most of you know, I have been back for a few months now. Back in the swing of things with city life but still savoring memories of our 2 month trip to SE Asia. Anyways, rather than re-creating the trip, I have chosen to take my e-mail excerpts and share them with those of you have seen them already and those who have not. This time, there are pictures so enjoy! E-mail #1 Subject: Hello from Thailand Sorry if you got this twice...seems like the first one didn't make it from my end...anywho, here goes: So hello there...long time no communicate! It has been about 5 days since we left Vancouver and it feels like so much has happened. We are currently ... read more
