I just got back from Paris and understand all to well the struggle of a "beautiful anglophone accent." I made many brave attempts en francais, but the Parisiens would speak back in broken English, although always with a smile! After a while I started my conversations by saying: "Je parle anglais mieux que le francais." It usually evoked a chuckle or two, but one woman in our local boulangerie rolled her eyes -- oops!!
