The other side Europe » Germany » Thuringia » Weimar
We last left off in Western Germany at Jan’s humble abode. We next left for the small cultural gem of Weimar in Eastern Germany’s layer. Weimar was probably in my top three favorite European cities along with Amsterdam and La Rochelle. It was laden with cobblestone roads and sidewalks, quaint shops and restaurants, and a very friendly atmosphere amongst its citizens. Weimar is also the home to two very well known German writers; Goethe and Schiller. I haven’t heard of these two men before my travels to their hometown however they are well-versed and quite popular accordi [View Full Entry]

The five hour drive from Paris to Valbert (Jan's small town) was extremely uncomfortable for me. I seemed to have picked up a bladder infection somewhere along the way and I had to make Jan stop at every second gas station so I could "relieve myself" (and for anyone who has ever had one, you know how annoying it is when you feel like you are dying to pee then when you get the chance, nothing comes out!) It was not too fun at all! After a few too many delays, we arrived in the greeny valleys of Valbert/ Voderhagen which [View Full Entry]

Jan and I endured the approximately 10 hour plane ride to Paris France including stopover in Toronto and one last bite at Tim Hortons ...from there, our European adventure would begin! It was the return to the homeland for Jan, and the second glimpse at a European lifestyle for myself. Highlights from the plane included some cultural highlights from the personal entertainment system such as "The Class" which is a French movie that takes place in Paris in a school in the banlieues, definitely one of my new fav teacher movies...also, a Quebecoise artiste named Coeur de Pirate...kinda Feisty bu [View Full Entry]

My last all-inclusive resort holiday was spent in Cuba when I was 14 years old. Although this was the first and favorite of all my worldly travels at the time, it has a lot to compete with at this point in time ranking amongst new travels such as Australia, Southeast Asia, Europe, Eastern Canada and now, Mexico. How could the Mayan Riviera not sound enticing after finishing such a demanding semester at university and who wouldn't want to relax on the white sands of Akumal Beach Resort for a whole week? When my mom offered the occasion to live life like [View Full Entry]

The time has now come for me to make one final assessment of Ireland and everything that goes hand in hand with the country: drink (and lot’s of it), the people, and the Irish way of life in general. In a nutshell, these elements have all impacted my life during my 6 month stay and it is now time to reflect upon those aspects that have helped piece together who I am today. Usually in order to do a proper field study of a culture, one has to have been immersed in said culture for at least a year. The following [View Full Entry]

Greenery

To start this fifth entry from the land of abundant sheep, I thought it only appropriate to quote the very talented, not to mention fergalicious, member of the Black-Eyed Peas: “How come every time you come around my London, London bridge wonderful town”… - You find yourself trying to fit in as many museums as possible but this never pans out accordingly as there is simply not enough time or energy - You often see more shops and pubs than historic sights - If traveling with Mark, you may find yourself sitting in the green gardens of Hide Park while waiting [View Full Entry]

Ireland?

Cause they Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Top of the morning to ya! Pip pip, cheerio! Tar ta tar tee tar! I thought it was only appropriate to start off this blog in the above fashion seeing that Ireland’s famous patron Saint’s day has just passed us by (well, a month ago now) and I’m sure you’re all wondering what in the world it was like over here! Well, it was GRAND. On the Saturday, Gillian and I did a pirate-themed scavenger hunt that went all over Dublin and it was lashing rain the whole time. You can imagine how stupid I felt when Gillian [View Full Entry]

Road trip!
The Mountains

Hey hey! Welcome ladies and gents to my third exciting blog entry from Ireland. I’m not going to lie, not too much has happened since we last chatted as life here in the working world is quite mundane and predictable, nonetheless, a few exciting adventures need sharing! Weekend Mayhem The past few weekends have been quite busy with trips, people visiting, and us visiting people! Gregg and Mark L (Ginger) from Yorkshire England blessed us with their presence nearly three weeks ago now. I can’t really remember any interesting stories about their visit but it was a brilliant [View Full Entry]

Carrick Areed Rope bridge?

You can all return from the edge of your seats (Strongbad), my blog has returned in full force! Now, where did we part last? Oh yes…ramblings about a trip to Edinburgh Scotland. Now, the good news was the above trip was indeed a blast…bad news, silly me forgot the camera so I have absolutely no pictures to prove my having traveled there at all! And the killer…no pictures with Nadeem, my flatmate from Australia, who we did meet up with! Sorry Denean! It just means that I’m gonna have to go back in the summer with my camera. The weekend included [View Full Entry]

Finally! The moment I know you have all been waiting for! My blog entries have returned and let me tell you that this time around they will be longer, more exciting, and contain twice as many catchy sayings and slang words than before! Um, no promises though. So, geez, where do I begin? At the beginning perhaps… I arrived in Dublin the eve of Dec 18th and traveled by bus to what would be my new apartment. It was amazing to see Mark again as always! Surprisingly, we seemed to run out of new stories after 45min on the bus and [View Full Entry]
