Kelly Henriques I am 32 years old and I live in downtown Toronto, Canada. I recently graduated from law school and was called to the bar in Ontario. Before I start my professional career I have decided that I need to explore the world and have planned a trip to Southeast Asia and Australia. Hi Everyone, So after a brief stop in Bangkok we said goodbye to Marlon who was planning on spending a couple days in the city travelling alone and made our way to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai which is located in the North Western part of Thailand is absolutely beautiful. The weather is much more forgiving, thje people are great and the city is both cute and quaint. Fred and I rented a moped and drove around the city to check out all the temples/pagodas and other tourist sites. We met a teacher who told us a little bit about the city [View Full Entry]

Hello All, So we didn't exactly get up at 4:30 a.m. as we had planned to bike to Angkor Wat since it was still dark outside and we were too tired to rise that early in the morning. We did however get up around 6:00 a.m. and started our trek to Angkor Wat around 6:30 a.m. We biked about 7km to Angkor Wat which is the temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one [View Full Entry]

Hi All - so the bus ride to Phnom Penh was approximately 5 - 6 hours. The worst part was waiting to pass the Cambodian border but with the help of the tour bus operator we made it through successfully and I know have another Visa in my passport to keep as a memory. We arranged with the bus operator to have a private driver and english speaking tour guide pick us up at the bus station in Phnom Penh and take us around the city. When we arrived the tour guide was waiting for us with a sign with Fred's [View Full Entry]

Hello Again! After a long bus ride we finally arrived in Siem Reap around 2:00 p.m. We were dropped off in the outskirts of the city so we took a Tuk Tuk into the city centre and to our hotel, the Shadow of Angkor II (located near the river). It is a quaint, clean and friendly hotel and the rooms are spectacular with an enclosed shower and A/C. We decided to spend today just wondering around the city and taking in some of the sights. We stopped off for some food and had some Khmer Dumplings, Lok Lak (Beef and Rice) [View Full Entry]

Hello All, So we left this morning to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam. The Cu Chi Tunnels areone of the most famous battlegrounds of the Vietnam War. The immense tunnel network was used by Viet Cong guerrillas as a hiding spot during combat. The tunnels were also served other purposes such as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous guerrilla fighters. The tunnel system was extremely important to the Viet Cong in their resistance to American operations. The tunnels are extremely small as they were made for the Viet Cong who [View Full Entry]

Hello from Saigon! We arrived in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) today at 4:30 a.m. The train ride was brutal as it was freezing cold in our sleeper. I woke up with a runny nose and sore throat. When we arrived we made our way to a quaint little hostel called Hotel 127 which is close to the backpacker district. We were completely exhausted and decided to sleep for a couple hours in the hotel before venturing out to see the sights of Saigon. During my sleep I was shockingly awakened by Fred's fist hitting my nose - he suckered punched [View Full Entry]

After arriving in Nhatrang by the overnight train we settled into our new hostel the Son & Daughter Guesthouse. It is a quaint little place in the middle of backpacker village. For the first time ever I was able to eat some real vietnamese food - my favourite vermicelli dish that I get in Toronto except that here it was about $5.00 CAN. Sooooo good :) We also asked some Vietnamese tour guides to take us around the city on their motorbikes. It was so much fun and we got to see a couple temples and the big buddha statue. I [View Full Entry]

Hellooo Again!! So today we decided to take a day trip to the Old Town of Hoi An (about 40 minute cab ride from Danang). Hoi An is a beautiful little oasis with a huge farmers market with cute and quaint little restaurants along the river. After roaming the streets and taking in the scenery we decided to vist some of the stores with cute trinkets and many tailored shops. We took advantage of the cheap tailor shops - I got a custom made spring/fall jacket (so unique and cute), Fred got a custom made navy blue suit and shirt, Marlon [View Full Entry]

Hello!!! So I tried to post this entry earlier but for some reason it didn't work in Danang. After a wonderful couple of days in Ha Long Bay where we had a chance to go kayaking and swimming we took the overnight train to Danang. Some highlights of our train ride include: 1. Meeting two german students 2. Meeting a Veitnamese student named "Viet" 3. Being asked to upgrade our sleeper room to another berth with mahoganey 4. Learning the tones and language 5. Learning Swakea and playing Chinese Poker 6. Seeing the beautiful scenery between Hue and Danang Suprisingly the [View Full Entry]

Hello!!! After a really long and extended flight (3 planes in total) I finally made it to Hanoi Vietnam. We travelled around the city today and bared the incredible humidity! It really is like being in hot yoga 24 hours a day. We are now taking a quick break before we head out again. It just started to rain so we may wait a little bit. I will post pictures as soon as I can! Miss you all! [View Full Entry]
