WOW! What an adventure to say the very least. USA must seem boring in lots of ways. Just in time for the constant bad economic news...Please email when you get settled in NC.

Memories
Thank You for sharing your adventures with me. I'll never forget all the pictures, history, and most of all your comments on every tour you took. It has been great to see Europe through your eyes. What a gift you have given your family and friends. Welcome home to good old NC! I hope we see you soon. Give us a call when you have settled in back home.

Pete, I think when you get home, you should become a professional photographer. Seriously!

Thanks for reading Lili. Don't you just love that picture! I told Keith I would take photos for tourists in our home town, when I get old. And he said for all we know the ones I have taken so far, might have turned out like hers!

I'm a fan too!
One of those things we share in common. I did track Vincent's trail too around Arles and St. Remy de Provence, alll the while humming "Starry, Starry Night" (Lol....) to myself. And yes, the food. I wouldn't mind doing it again, perhaps spending more time next visit.

Very moving post, thank you.

Roman Arles
Thank you for taking me back to Arles. I did recognise most of the places. And of course I recognised PAUL'S where you can get the most delicious chocolate chaude (hot chocolate), try it out next time.

You have to go back!
Don't you just love Gaudi, the jamon jabugo, manchego and Barcelona? Like you, we just "drove through" Barcelona - just 2 nights - and from there, drove up to Arles, Nimes, Avignon area. We were taken away by Gaudi's works --- truly one of a kind. I will go back, for sure. Despite an unfortunate incident (my friend lost bag with passport, cash, cards, plane tickets), we still want to go back.......esp after seeing your great photos! You say Hola.......we say Ole! Good blog.

more about the Iranian president...
"The commitee managing the museum of Auschwitz also said it was against the visit. "We will never allow the delegation headed by Ahmadinejad to visit this centre," the museum said in a statement. "We preserve the memory of over one million victims and mean to block the way to anyone wanting to shed doubts on the Holocaust." Iran's president said in December last year (2005) that the Nazi mass murder of Jews during World War II was a "myth." " The memorial at Auschwitz always contends with controversy.

Hummanity at its Worst
But people are already forgetting or pretending that these horrors are just a political invention... Perhaps the Polish government should invite the great Iranian leader to visit this imaginary place.
17th February 2009

Completely agree with what you said. Having been there last year, there are just no words that describe the horror that occured.

This entry brings back memories from our trip there. Thanks for posting it.

Piekna Atrakcja!!!
Great event, I wish I had been there! The Battle for Vienna 1683 was one of the most important battles in European history, saving Europe from Ottoman conquest, yet unfortunately it is largely forgotten today. It always makes me very bitter to think of how unknown Poland and its history is, and yet how vital a role Rzeczpospolita played in the history of Europe, such as in 1683, 1920, not to mention being Europe’s first modern democracy, etc, yet almost everyone west of Germany is ignorant of this. Anyway, with such a history, it is no wonder that these historical reenactments are very common and popular in Poland. I remember running into a Viking festival a few years back near my home city of Szczecin- great fun! These events are always worth your time and are incredibly well done. P.S.> The Winged Husaria where definately the greatest cavalry (if not military force) of all time hands down- absolutely nothing could stand in their way. With them, Polish forces conquered as far east as to take Moscow, and Polish prince (Wladyslaw IV) was crowned Tsar of Russia, and ruled as such until 1612. The Polish Rzeczpospolita was the only European nation to successful subdue and conquer Russia, succeeding where Napoleon’s France and Hitler’s Germany failed.
