Looking for a different way to share my travel stories other than making people flip through hundreds of photos while I go on about cool places and fun people they don't know.

Today is my last day in Bali, Indonesia. I came here alone for a total of 12 days and it has been quite and relaxing. The first time on this trip that I've actually been vacationing! Ubud: January 30 - February 1 I got a transfer straight from the airport in Denpasar to Ubud, the cultural capital of Bali. Here I stayed at a lovely homestay called Ubud Dream on Monkey Forest Rd. The place is run by a very sweet family. They were busy preparing for the Galungan festival, so I didn't get a chance to really sit with them, but they were very welcoming. I spent my time here walking around (as usual) and visiting a few sites. I saw the monkey forest, which is littered with crazy monkeys that aren't afraid of people ... read more

January 24-25: Pulau Langkawi Carol and I had a long journey from Koh Lanta to Langkawi, a 7+ hour journey, mostly by ferry. The first ferry wasn't full to capacity, so I had a whole row of seats to myself for most of it. The only problem was the exhaust fumes were pretty strong, so I had 6 hours of breathing in exhaust fumes inside and outside on the roof of the ferry. Needless to say, I had a bit of a cough when we finally got off the boat. We had to go through Thai immigration on the island of Koh Lipe. So the ferry dropped a bunch of us off on a floating pier where we waited for 30min, waiting and waiting for someone to come back with our passports after they'd been stamped ... read more

Koh Phi Phi: Jan 16 - 19 I met Carol at the Bangkok Airport and we flew to Phuket together. When we arrived in Phuket, it was hot and ofcourse I was wearing jeans and my sweater. We just bought the ferry ticket to Koh Phi Phi and transfer to the pier from an agent in the airport. After some confusion over taxi availability and whether we should wait or not, we finally got to our ferry with a few minutes to spare. The ferry ride was slightly sketchy. We packed ourselves on and everyone's bags were blocking the emergency exit. Luckily we didn't need it! We arrived in Koh Phi Phi in the evening and walked to our hostel which was very close to the pier. Koh Phi Phi is a small island. You can ... read more

Bangkok: Jan 13-15 I left Delhi on Jan 12 at 8pm (not 10pm as I thought!!) and flew the lovely cheap Air Asia to Bangkok. I shared a cab with 2 Americans to Khao San Rd where my hostel is located near. The cab dropped me off in the middle of the madness that is Khao San at 4am. For anyone that's been to Khao San, you know how crazy it is. Khao San Rd is also known as Bangkok's backpacker ghetto. It is littered with tons of hostels, restaurants, bars, street vendors and loads of drunk foreigners just walking and dancing on the street. I had the joy of navigating through it all with my backpack. After roaming around for 20min or so I was finally pointed in the right direction and found the hostel ... read more

Agra: Jan 2 - 3 We arrived by in Agra in the afternoon after an uneventful train ride. We stayed at the Taj Plaza Hotel near the Eastern Gate of the Taj Mahal. It was a bit of a dump. We spent our first ten minutes killing mosquitoes which left the room with blood smeared walls...oops! Agra is the city where you'll find the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and a few other monuments like the Baby Taj. Many people go there as a day trip as this city is not very impressive. The monuments are gorgeous, very well kept...the city, not so much. The most I remember of Agra is dirt roads, garbage piles, cows and rooftop terrace restaurants with semi views of the Taj. We visited the Taj Mahal on our first day in the ... read more

Delhi: Dec 29-30 Melissa and I arrived in Delhi at 3 am on December 29th. We were picked up at the airport by a very sketchy driver in a very sketchy car. The drive was fine and we arrived Old Delhi at Hotel Tara Palace. The room was decent, just what we needed: beds and a bathroom with running water. The next morning we walked around Old Delhi to the Jama Masjid and the Red Fort/Lal Quila. The Jama Masjid is free, of course that didn't stop a guy from trying to charge us 200Rs for a camera charge. He literally shooed us away and told us to find Gate#3. We were at Gate#2, after finding Gates 1, 4 and 6, we did find 3 just as the mosque was closed for prayers! So off to ... read more

So I'm staring this blog from my family room at home. I'm leaving tomorrow on this grand adventure that will last 3.5 months. I've been wanting to go on a trip like this for a long time. I've travelled quite a bit, but this will be the longest continous journey I'm taking. I will start this trip off flying to Delhi, India with my friend. From India I will be be travelling to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nepal before meeting up with my family for a final loop around India before flying back to Toronto. I'm hoping I will keep this blog up-to-date. I've never blogged before. I usually just post up pictures and comments on facebook, but I thought I'd try something new. So bear with me if it doesn't look pretty, or if I ... read more
