| 21st December 2009 Kent Taylor | Address for Tadeo Torres- Cuenca - From: I work in a windmill ! - Adinea and Tadeo Torres I hope this gets through and you still have the address for Tadeo Torres in Cuenca, Ecuador. We were there three years ago- to the "new" one. If you have the address to write to- I would appreciate it. I saw the picture of the tree you painted- it looks great- better than the one in the old Tadeo Torres near the river. |

| 3rd August 2009 JintysJourneys | A bit of paradise - From: A Little Slice of Paradise Well I think Eeyore would have been proud of your technology skill but I know he wouldn't let on. Sounds wonderful again! |
| 3rd August 2009 AnnaAdventuring | - From: A Whale of a Tail Whales!!! You saw whales!!! Soooooo not fair! |
| 3rd August 2009 AnnaAdventuring | - From: A Little Slice of Paradise Nice blog - congratulations on building your own home! Don't worry about kids, I've recently had a South African one criticise my computer skills.... it's not my fault the internet keeps crashing! Nice to see the pics. I see you have perfect blue sky as always. :) |
| 1st August 2009 Katm1987 | Yup! - From: Puerto Lopez I took so many photos I had to dedicate an entire blog to the whales! Pity they didn't feel like jumping |
| 1st August 2009 liliram | Love ur blog and photos, Katherine! - From: Puerto Lopez As always, I enjoyed your blog .... even read it twice and lived vicariously through your 'beach bum' pleasures. Your photos are superb, you write very neatly, and I enjoyed the humour too. Nice to be lazy while on holiday, while others would make it a "chore". Yup, it doesn't have to be hard work. Safe travels, Katherine. Keep them coming! |
| 1st August 2009 Ali | Stunning Sunsets! - From: Puerto Lopez Did you get to see a whale? |
| 28th July 2009 JintysJourneys | That was some 'tail' - From: A Whale of a Tail OK so I am officially jealous. Who froze in Iceland and was very sick just to see those minky whales jump. At least there's hope for civilised whale watching out there. |
| 26th July 2009 Ellie | Turkey... - From: Animals of the Amazon I suppose 'Royal Turkeys' is quite apt, as they have similar tail plummage shapes and they did eat peacock too... Personally, I find most poultry quite disappointing (sausages!); have you dined on any more guinea pig? Food on summer job is mostly potatoes - one evening we had hotpot with sliced potatoes on the top, potatoes in the hotpot mixture underneath served with mashed potatoes on the side. I feel like... a potato, actually! And not a South American beach toasted one, either :-( Other ideas: you should get a stone version of the monkey carved and put it on your [eventual] mansion's gatepost to scare off unwanted visitors! It looks scary! Take care, amiga! xxx |
| 26th July 2009 AnnaAdventuring | - From: Animals of the Amazon That orange bird is the weirdest bird I've ever seen! He looks like he has an eye in his neck and his head is just missing! Love the 'Magpie'! I think you should have enlightened them though, you could always email them a photo from home! |
| 26th July 2009 jintysjourenys | Of course they were magpies - From: Animals of the Amazon Well glad to hear the weather cheered up. Photos as good as usual. I love to see a photo of this magpie! |
| 25th July 2009 ysanne | what an experience! - From: In the jungle, the mighty jungle Just caught up with your blog. Sounds a fantastic experience. Talk soon XXX Ysanne |
| 24th July 2009 Katm1987 | - From: In the jungle, the mighty jungle Sorry Stephen! Though I´m sure you´ll have many amazing Ecuador blogs on the top spot soon! I still have a few more days here - you´ll be glad to know the weather is incredible at the moment! |
| 23rd July 2009 Stephen Paul | grumpy - From: In the jungle, the mighty jungle How dare you push me out of the top spot! haha. Great blog and nice pictures. I can't wait to see Ecuador! One more month.. Are you back yet!?? |
| 23rd July 2009 AnnaAdventuring | - From: In the jungle, the mighty jungle Nice to see the update! Looks like you had an amazing time in the jungle ...and saw far too many creepy crawlies for comfort! Love the Tarzan swing, although quite relieved to find it wasn't you in the video! |
| 23rd July 2009 jeannie | Are you sure it was raining? - From: In the jungle, the mighty jungle How do you do it ? Brilliant photos in the rain! I've been looking forward to this blog. Are you cooking fish when you come home? |
| 18th July 2009 Katm1987 | - From: Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca I promise that the culture comment was merely coming from an impoverished student point of view and not implying that I don´t appreciate culture - I think we went to enough museums in Vienna to prove that! |
| 18th July 2009 Ellie | Guess what! I've finally worked out how to use Google Reader! - From: Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca Hola! *Love* the shrine photo - are you using the same camera you took to Vienna, or is this a new one? I do wonder, however, what an asthmatic ant sounds like to the human ear... ;-) Apologies for the long silence - temporary summer job has been *disgustingly* demanding and have only just had time to set myself up with Google Reader. As my many RSS feeds now take up so much screen space that half of them get forced out of sight, this resulted in only half of the pages being noted whenever I log on for work and then even fewer being hastily skimmed. However, I will be a most attentive reader from now on as it will ALL pop up on my Reader homepage automotically! :-D One final question before my students (all over 18, thank God!) are let out of their lecture and descend upon me like frenzied piranahs with their millions of questions/problems/etc. "Really love that the majority of museums here are free - makes culture so much more palatable!" - who are you and what have you done with Katem?! ;-) Don't leave that camera behind when you go out - some of us have to rely on your photos! E xxx |
| 28th June 2009 anonymous | Those pix aren't bad at all! - From: Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca hey, don't be too hard on yourself. love ur blog, and those photos. and bless you for making that visit to the orphanage. cheers! |
| 28th June 2009 Jeannie | Glad you haven't lost the shopping bug. - From: Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca Well glad you got things in proportion: shopping, food, museums and hummingbirds. No iguanas? Glad you saw your babies! All those maternal feelings just flood back or not!! HAve a great continuing journey. Love us at home |
| 28th June 2009 AnnaAdventuring | - From: Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca I love how many photos you have of that cathedral. Do you take one every time just to show how much the tree in front is growing? Absolutely stunning photo of the shrine. Is it for anything in particular? |
| 7th June 2009 NickTheTrick | - From: Gullfoss, Geysers and Great big cracks in the earth! Hi, love your '...going...' photo, that weird moment between water doing nothing and water shooting all over the place! Think I've been to the very same place, though it was rainy the entire time I was there... hmmph |
| 30th January 2009 kevin sammy | - From: Galapagos!!!!! love your boobies! |
| 13th January 2009 JintysJourneys | - From: The Imperial Capital I'm glad to hear that the natural history museum was as amazing as last time. It must be one of those special places by how long you spend inside. Was the dinosaur leg still there? |
| 13th January 2009 JintysJourneys | Where did the pink palace go? - From: Schönbrunn Palace - My Future Home! OK. So where did this amazing pink palace go? You must the the only person who can convince me that the palace had been painted pink to raise money for charity by showing me the photo (altered)on your camera.... and I believed you! |
| 20th December 2008 jeannie | It was worth it .Really? - From: Land of Ice and Fire Ecuador in a bikini sounds much better but we stuck it out and those whales could certainly jump!! |
| 20th December 2008 jeannie | Beautiful photos - From: In the Land of the Fairies Yes I agree that there are fairies and that was the most scenic toilet in the world!! |
| 20th December 2008 jeannie | Well of course your mother's still got it! - From: How many waterfalls is it possible to see before you get bored? Luckily you didn't see or hear the state of your mother when she did get to the top! Was it worth it? Of course not but I didn't admit it. It was just a slightly larger version of 'High Force' waterfall in County Durham. |
| 17th December 2008 liliram | makes me want to revisit vienna! - From: Schönbrunn Palace - My Future Home! hey, I enjoyed reading this blog. and you take very good photos as well! keep writing!!!! |
| 23rd November 2008 Katm1987 | Maybe - From: How many waterfalls is it possible to see before you get bored? I still think you need a little variety in between! |
| 23rd November 2008 Stephen Paul | After lots of Research.... - From: How many waterfalls is it possible to see before you get bored? I have determined the number of waterfalls you have to see before you get bored is 29,359. I arrived at this number by considering you can see one waterfall everyday for 80 years and not get bored- because waterfalls are never boring no matter how many you see! |
| 22nd November 2008 thecrashpacker | great! - From: Gullfoss, Geysers and Great big cracks in the earth! cool video! ha! |
| 21st November 2008 Albert-Webb | The reason this very green island is called Iceland - From: Gullfoss, Geysers and Great big cracks in the earth! The original settler to the island, I think his name was Floki Vilgertharson (sp), loved it so much he did not want others to come here. As he returned home, I think to Norway or one of the Scandanavian countries, he saw icebergs floating in one of the fjords. This give him an idea; he would call the place Iceland to deter otherwise would be settlers from coming here. |
| 21st November 2008 Stephen Paul | Hey No Fair - From: Gullfoss, Geysers and Great big cracks in the earth! I want to go to Iceland!! How can you go from Ecuador to Iceland and not expect us mountain lovers to be jealous? *sigh. Love the photos!! |
| 28th August 2008 JintysJourneys | OK so that is a better whale - From: Having a whale of a time OK I have to admit it that your whale pictures are better than ours in Iceland! |
| 7th August 2008 cricri | quito tambien - From: A trip to the market Just arrived in beautiful Quito today on the red eye from LA. Thanks for the tips on early morning bargains. Invaluable. My apt in the Mariscal is adequate except for the nearby Amazonas Boulevard is torn up, traffic blocked, and the city water cut off to the Mariscal. This means no shower for now. When you bussed it to Oltavalo, which beach did you come from? What will you do in Quito? |
| 6th August 2008 Jeannie | Food again! - From: A trip to the market Well food and shopping is the only way to go. Love seeing the market photos after a year away. My children will love them at school. Maybe I won't show the pig one??? Have fun packing and we'll see you Friday! Love us |

| 17th July 2008 Will Rojas | Colombia not that different from Ecuador? - From: Cali It pleases me to hear of people traveling to Colombia despite the bad reputation the media portrays. I lived in Cali years ago and I must say the city has sadly changed from what it traditionally represented, festive atmosphere and civic minded residents. Now I have never been to our beautiful neighbor’s land, Ecuador, but it sounds to me like you have been to many parts of that country and by what many of my dear friends and even family members have told me, it’s an amazing part of the world; from the farthest point from the center of the earth (Chimborazo) to the beautiful Pacific beaches and everything in between. By your article I also assumed you only got as far into Colombia as Cali, therefore to state “I can't say it struck me as being all that different from Ecuador” referring to Colombia, is too big of a statement to make. By the many pictures and the many people I have met here in the United States from Guayaquil and Quito, I agree the land is very similar to a lot of mountainous regions of the south west of Colombia and also Ecuadorians and the people of the southwestern Colombian departments like Nariño and Cauca do look very similar, but something what defines Colombia as a whole is the contrast of its native people (not due to foreign immigration) from region to region and the uniqueness of the typical Colombian’s celebratory and upbeat frame of mind in spite of all the social problems. For the past four years I have been visiting Colombia trying to see different parts of the country and I must say that every time I am amazed and educated of how different the regions and people can be and yet I’ve only seen a small portion of this nation. I hope next time you travel to Colombia you can visit the coffee region, Bogotá during theater festivals, Medellin during flower festivals, Barranquilla during the carnivals, San Andres in the Caribbean, Leticia on the Amazon river, Villavicencio in the great plains, the fortress city of Cartagena or the Gaujira desert and then you can get the bigger picture of what Colombia represents. |
| 16th July 2008 radhikajain | Iteresting post - From: Cali Wow what an exiting article was, I really loved your travelling experience very much. In fact, u lured me to pay a visit to that place, but it seems not possible to visit the places. I am inviting you to India, you pay a visit to my country, surely you will love it very much. For india related information you may visit some good website, www.itopc.org, www.vacationsindia.com |

| 26th June 2008 Carolyn Taylor | church bells - From: Cuenca Dear Katem. I'm not sure if the same is true for Ecuador but I have been told this in Mexico & Costa Rica. The bells ring early to tell people to get up and start walking to the church. After the hour it is to announce when communion is beginning. In Mexico, this is often accompanied by fireworks! I spent 5 weeks in Ecuador in 2005 going to school and just enjoying the area. I tell everyone to go to Ecuador. It is a beautiful country with lovely people and you don't even have to worry about changing currency! Have you been to Vilcabamba? The ride alone is worth the trip. Stay at www.jardinescondidio.com for $10-12 a night which includes breakfast! Carolyn( blogger name' gunga') |
| 25th June 2008 AnnaAdventuring | And she's off again......!!! - From: Cuenca Well glad to see you survived the messy transfer flight and are enjoying yourself. It's nice to see this blog updated after so long. Have fun revisiting your babies!! |

| 28th July 2007 Chris | Are you sure that's cola? - From: Cusco This rumour about strange cola has been spreading round the neighbourhood. You will have to bring one back for us to really believe it or not! Wonderful colours and atmospheres abound where you are. Enjoy your trip to the salt plains. |
| 26th July 2007 jeannie | Didn't I leave a comment or is it dementia?? - From: Cusco Hi I'm sure I left you a comment yesterday. Us mother's seem to think this cola is something else? Glad you are still doing the history bit. Was that the 7th museum behind the crowd. Maybe there was something they didn't want you to see. Love J |
| 25th July 2007 sue | Lovely Cola - From: Cusco Is it my imagination or does the cola look like very badly disguised wee? I'm hoping that Lou bought it for the obviously free t shirt & did not drink it! Well done for 6 tourist sites out of 7 in one day. PS tell Jack that when all my friends see any pix of him that they all say how handsome he is! Doubt whether he will be thrilled to have a fan club of middle ages ladies - but better than no fans at all. He reminds me of a young Georgie Fame, but I bet you won't know who he is! Much love Sue W |
| 23rd July 2007 chris | WoW! I'm thrilled for you & jealous - From: Birds, a plane...but no superman - Nazca Lines Hi, Kat, What fantastic sights and experiences you are having. I love the pics of the Nazca lines - it 's one of the things that I always wanted to see myself, to prove they are as they say! Do they have any theories as to how they managed to create them (other than spacemen!)? Take care of yourselves and continue to soak up your amazing experiences. Love, Dad |
| 18th July 2007 jeannie | So how long did it take you to draw them? - From: Birds, a plane...but no superman - Nazca Lines OK so are these lines a bit like crop circle. They appear over night???? | 27th June 2007 Ellie | Various - From: Galapagos!!!!! Hello! Love the pictures - look forward to seeing the rest when you're back. Glad you named the turtle one, though, as I originally interpreted it as 'fat mermaid shadow' - which made Anna laugh at any rate! Love the natural history lesson to do with the booby nests - planning on a career change to being David Attenborough's apprentice ..? V nifty dolphin shot also. Please try not to get eaten by a shark - I don't think they'd reduce your air fare even if you did come back with two fewer limbs than you went! ;-) E x |

| 28th May 2007 Jeannie | Just love the nails - From: Time for some rest and relaxation in the valley of longevity I just love the nails. Why can't mine ever look like that? Katherine, dahling, I thought you were out there for character building, charity giving, physically and mentally strenuous work, not shopping, beaches, roast marshmallows, shopping, DVD watching and shopping? Of course, if you're bringing back lots for your less foot loose friends here, I could alter my perception of it . . . E x |
| 2nd May 2007 Jeannie mum | Love the hats again! - From: More shopping!!! (what else?) That sounded like a civilised Sunday. Shame I can't join you for the day but I'm sure you did some good shopping. I have booked you in for therapy when you return. University allowance will be a mere £5 per week!!! Love mum |
| 1st May 2007 Anna | MORE shopping??? - From: More shopping!!! (what else?) What?! Not MORE shopping Katherine! Surely you must have done enough by now! So I guess we can expect you to arrive home with a rucksack full to the brim with jewellery and souveniers and everything else left behind and forgotten. Oh well, never mind.... as long as you bring something back for me! |
| 1st May 2007 Ellie | On the 'mushroom' hat - From: It's not a Panama, it's a Montecristi! Why are you so against the hat?! I think it's lovely if slightly, er, less conventional than your - rather provocative - choice. Was it only salsa lessons you had, or are you off to join the cast of something like 'Chicago'? ;-) The scarves sound lovely, and much cheaper than in Italia. You are right, however - I have absolutely *no* idea how you'll readjust to the English prices. E x |
| 29th April 2007 Sue ( Lou's Mum) | Hats galore - From: It's not a Panama, it's a Montecristi! Love your hat Kat, it really does something for you (no not the mushroom). Hopefully the ones Lou bought did not include the one on the right, ( looking bonkers again, even in broad daylight) though I like the checked number. I hope she bought me one! Sue |
| 29th April 2007 jeannie | I we have the third on the right ,second row back? - From: It's not a Panama, it's a Montecristi! Hi Kat Yep, we finally chose the one we wanted. Is that OK? |
| 29th April 2007 jeannie mum | Loved the 'magnum drawbridge' - From: Sea, sun and sandcastles Hi Kat After re looking at your wonderful castle I noticed the fine addition of a sturdy drawbridge in true ice cream style. Excellent! Are you sure you should be doing a history degree in September or should engineering be a better choice? |
| 28th April 2007 Jeannie (alias mum) | Toadstools or mushrroms? - From: It's not a Panama, it's a Montecristi! Well Katherine all I can say I am glad you did not buy THAT hat! Customs and airport control would not have coped with it at all on the way back. Love the table of hats. My little monsters will certainly appreciate that for discussion on Monday! I'll let you know their comments! |
| 28th April 2007 Anna | Biggest best sandcastle ever!! - From: Sea, sun and sandcastles Yep! You were right! That is one super-duper sandcastle. Great moat. And flags. Not the absolute best we've ever done though... I do recall a family effort involving carving battlements with a knife and a futile attempt to actually fill the moat..... do you remember that one?! Sounds like you had a great time. Speak soon. |
| 24th April 2007 Jeannie | I thought Percy was a Park keeper! - From: Banco Central, birds y bailando Hi Kat Nice top. Have you bought one for me? Glad you had a great weekend. I like the black and white photos. Very elegant!Glad you had a good weekend at home before going off again. You must need a rest sometime??? |
| 24th April 2007 Lou's mum | Censorship - From: Banco Central, birds y bailando Hi Kat, Your mum gave us yr blog address, so we can find out much more about what Lou has been doing than if we go on hers! I have to say am v impressed with your pictures, esp Percy. Private salsa lessons have obviously been more effective for some than others, judging by the above. As each week goes by Jack and Louisa appear to look increasingly half- cut on all the evening pics. I'm hoping the drink is to blame & they don't look like that all the time, or yr kids will becoming progressively more alarmed. Happy shopping on yr return (no scarves though). Please do not censor any future entires. You are now our main source on info!Sue |
| 24th April 2007 Anna | shopping etc. - From: Banco Central, birds y bailando Well I think your top is very pretty. Who is Roberto though?! Nice black and white piccys. Whoose attempt at being artistic was that? |
| 21st April 2007 jeannie | What about my first comment? - From: Birthdays and bridge swinging in Baños Sorry that my first comment didn't pass the censor. That volcano looks angry. Did you get any more photos? Not sure what the 'lime' mission was about. Sounds interesting. |
| 18th April 2007 jeannie | What fishing in church? - From: Cuenca Foundation What's this about fishing in church. Is this a new hobby? How's the Lord's Prayer going? Of course they blocked off the main square when they knew you were coming to town! |
| 18th April 2007 jeannie | What church again? - From: Quito meets Cuenca Now how did you manage to get stuck in church when you were just visiting the pretty building! These nuns can be very persuasive! |
| 18th April 2007 Anna | shopping bargains - From: Quito meets Cuenca Yes Katherine, who can argue with six scarves for $10! Only thing is you've already bought some scarves and I recall a bundle of Indian pashminas and Egyptian shawls sitting in your wardrobe back home..... but absolutely, who can argue with six more?!!! |
| 18th April 2007 Anna | Ditzy sister! - From: Cuenca Foundation Only you could wander into the middle of mass and not realise it! How is your atheism holding up with all these Catholics??!! Your American 'friends' managed Cockney accents? Quite impressive from people who thought you and Lou both had the same 'posh accent'. So if you are slowly catching Lou's Sheffield accent does that mean she's adopting yours? I'm not sure we'll recognise you at all when you come home speaking Spanish with a Sheffield accent!!! |
| 17th April 2007 Wahid | pretty sunset - From: We're all going on a Easter holiday! Hi Kat - love that photo of the sunset. Very pretty. Hope to hear from you again soon. Love wahid |
| 17th April 2007 Wahid | wow - From: Don't fall off the doughnut! I think you're very brave, and you actually look like you're having fun!!?! So which of those legs in the air belong to you? |
| 17th April 2007 Anna | sunny Ecuador? - From: Out of hell, into heaven It all looks a bit chilly there - are you sure you're near the equator??!! |
| 17th April 2007 Wahid | Hi Kat! - From: Here comes the sun! Hi Kat! Looks like you're having a great time. Keep showing us more photos. They're lovely. Love Wahid. xxx |
| 16th April 2007 Anna | gorgeous photos - From: Here comes the sun! Hi Kat! Love that first picture of the lake and flowers. Very artistic! |
| 16th April 2007 Anna | Gee-up - From: Birthdays and bridge swinging in Baños Well I have to say you look very relaxed on your horse... you've obviously taken to western style after all. How come you two are the only ones who ever get on horses? Do you have to already be riders? I can't quite imagine they seriously let you ride alone in the mountains! You take a guide with you don't you??? |
| 15th April 2007 jeannie | OK so where's the photos for this place? - From: Off for a bath! Now come on. We've waited all day checking the email and no photos yet!! (By the way loved the sunset and rainbow in Cuenca) Hope your Spanish was good enough in Banos? I liked the message. They must get too many foreign tourists. People in Europe should do the smae. That would get the British to finally have a go at speaking another language. Love the sound of a lazy breakfast. Wish me luck tomorrow. I'm back to my jungle. Those children will have grown in two weeks so I better start my vitamins or something. |
| 15th April 2007 jeannie | Not another beautiful mountain? - From: Here comes the sun! I'm sitting here on the computerwhen this next photo turns up. Nothing like getting me jealous again. I want to see this photo of the hummingbird on a cactus. Sounds painful. What's this about men cooking at three in the morning? Send them this way! |
| 13th April 2007 Anna | Superman!! - From: Don't fall off the doughnut! I suppose the good news is if you fell off there's a good chance those trees would break your fall!! Seriously looks like so much fun..... 'superman' would have looked better if you could rent costumes there though. Have you considered suggesting it to the locals? |
| 13th April 2007 jeannie | 'I'm a pink marshmallow, you're a white marshmallow..... - From: Out of hell, into heaven Dear Kat At least I can see proof of your firsmaking skills. I knew all that early training in arson would prove useful eventually. |
| 12th April 2007 jeannie | I am SO JEALOUS!!!!! - From: Here comes the sun! Hi Kat Well you've really done it now. All my favourites in one place. Mountains, sunrise ,lakes and mules??? (sorry did I add mules???) Take the last one off. It looks fantastic. Why can't we see a photo of you in your llama hats? |
| 11th April 2007 jeannie | What do you mean only 2,000 feet above the ground? - From: Don't fall off the doughnut! Now come on... only 2,000 feet! Where's that tandem sky diving nature gone? Should have been much higher!!! I don't ask how you change wires or do you? George of the jungle would have nothing on you if you arrived in your normal grand style. I have this vision in my head of sugared doughnuts going down the river. Can't wait for photos. Now Anna and I are going to have to think of something really to outdo all this! (Well I suppose facing 24 five years olds next week might compete a little!! Wish me luck as I return to my jungle.) |
| 10th April 2007 Anna | More dangerous wild orchids? - From: Up in the cloud forest Oh no Katherine!! More wild orchids! Hope you had a professional ranger and a big tranquilizer gun with you. These safaris can be quite dangerous you know. |
| 10th April 2007 Anna | Roasting on the beach - From: Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! Hi! Well I can't say I envy you your nasty sunburn. On the bright side, you're finally starting to look brown. Who would have thought it would take you two months on the equator to get a tan!! |
| 9th April 2007 jeannie | Ah all that sun, sea and sunburn. - From: Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! Hi Kat Yep, that sunset is pretty good. Can I teleport down to a spare hammock on the beach? |
| 9th April 2007 jeannie | Of course you are a mosquito's delight! - From: Up in the cloud forest Hi Kat Hope you weren't sea sick on the hammocks? Of course those little insects always love you. Just keep them away with all those creams and potions you took. You'll be looking just like that character from Lilo and Stitch!! |
| 7th April 2007 jeannie | Well we've just been on holiday too! - From: We're all going on a Easter holiday! Yes, it's me again. Well at least we've been down a cave on our holiday. Not quite as exciting as zip wiring, donut eating or was that rafting??? I'll just to sky dive again to keep up with you. |
| 27th March 2007 Lizzie Bate | Nice to hear all your news...keep up educating the strange Americans...am sure you'll get there! - From: Back to work! Hello yoU! Its great to hear all of your news...even your ranting! I shall look forward to your rendition of moron songs...complete with dancing ( !) when you get back! Take care, and keep enjoying! xxx |
| 22nd March 2007 Tim | hmmm - From: Of Incas and orchid safaris tell you what this all looks like really strenuous work your doing out there (!) hehe |
| 22nd March 2007 Keely | Avast Matey! - From: A lazy Saturday in Quito Katherine, has any one ever told you you look positively radiant with mudd on your feet? You should wear mudd more often. Sorry I haven't been able to reply! But it soundsl ike your having fun fun fun! You keep getting prettier in each picture. HOW THE HECK DO YOU DO THAT?!?!!? anyways! To make your day even better, it was discovered yesterday that President W. Bush has been seeing a Dominatrix! HA! What do you think of that!?!? If Clinton was impeached for doing his secratery, shouldn't Bush be impeached for cheating as well? I call for Impeachment! Any ways! I'm SO glad your having fun there, and meeting friends and salsa dancing until 3 in the morning! Spanish is easy to pick up, and honestly, the only way your ever going to REALLY learn it is by speaking to the locals in as much spanish you know and asking them how to say things. Also, speak in spanish as much as you can with your fellow friends, so that you get in the habit of speaking it^__^. that's best advice I could give you on learning a language. And now that this post is rediculously long, I shall leave you. Have fun and I'll post more often! -Keely |
| 22nd March 2007 Anna | Orchid Safari - From: Of Incas and orchid safaris Orchid Safari, hmm? Sounds interesting. I can understand wanting to see orchids in the wild if that happens to be your particular passion but how can they call it a safari?? Safaris include lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) not harmless little wild flowers. I've always been a little dubious about cultural safaris - museums and palaces are sightseeing not safaris - but an orchid safari seems even more bizarre! |
| 21st March 2007 jeannie | what do you mean only 6 to a bed. - From: Off to Ingapirca! Hi KAt What about 10 in a bed??? Sounds amazing. It's great to pictrure it all. What did you actually go to see????? |
| 20th March 2007 Anna | hi - From: Welcome to Cuenca! The 'bright' idea of not going to bed all night?? Now I realise sheer exhaustion is the only way you can possibly sleep on buses but how on earth did you put your sleep patterns back again? Or have you all become nocturnal??? Love the picture of the cathedral. Hope to see lots more photographs - especially of the cute little tikes when you get to the orphanage etc. |
| 19th March 2007 Taryn | North Americans... - From: Back to work! Yeah, apperantly us North Americans can be pretty slow when it comes to slang from abroad. Though those girls you're working with sound exceptionaly ignorant. I met an American while I was traveling who had never heard the expression "taking the piss"... |
| 18th March 2007 Ellie | Of cabbages and kings . . . - From: Back to work! No cuddles, Mormons *and* cloth nappies?! Oh dear . . . you're not going to go all broody, are you? |
| 8th March 2007 Ellie | Books and stuff - From: Last day in Quito! Oh dear, I feel for you, Katherine - clothes that are weirdly sized (neither of us is a 'large'!!!), hideous and/or expensive. On the book front: :-0 Want me to post you P&P? ;-) Take care in Cuenca (?) E x |
| 8th March 2007 Ellie | ! - From: We´re going to the zoo! Oh my GOD! You actually found some llamas! [jaw drops in awe] |
| 7th March 2007 Splarah | We miss you! - From: Orientation of Quito (even though we´ve been here a fortnight already!) Hey, not sure when you´ll get this, but just thought I´d let you know it´s our first day without you Cuenca guys and we miss you! Went to see our placements today, all looking pretty good apart from that CENIT is run by and EXTREMELY irritating American woman. But she´s leaving in about a month :) Anyway, good luck with stuff, speak to you soon! My mobile number is 091487775, let me know all your numbers when you have them and I´ll pass them around. Chao chica! |
| 5th March 2007 Jeannie | what do you mean you couldn't eat all the food? - From: A lazy Saturday in Quito Well that's more adventurous, picnics in the park! Sounds very relaxing. Wish I could. It's back to the gremlins this morning with more questions to answer.Love Me. P.S. internet was playing up yesterday. Hope you got the emails? Have a great last couple of mad days in Quitto |
| 4th March 2007 Anna | Salsa! - From: School trip take two Wow, salsa dancing!! Looks like you sort of know what you're doing, you can put my two left feet to shame when you get home!! By the way why do you look so white? You've complain enough about the heat and the sun... hasn't it had any affect on you yet (tan-wise I mean!)? Fried banana sounds like an interesting experience. How is it done? Should I just fling one on the frying pan at home do you think? |
| 4th March 2007 Anna | beautiful views - From: Last day of school! Hi Kat!! Absolutely gorgeous photos but are you telling me you couldn't get just a tiny bit closer to the edge for that photo? From what you've been saying the buses seem to take you right on the edge, I should have thought feet were safer!!! By the way are all the other people in your group really tall or have you just shrunk?!! Love Anna. |
| 3rd March 2007 jeannie | how are your two left feet? - From: School trip take two Well if Anna brought us Bollywood from India, you'll certainly be bringing us Salsa back from Sounth America. Only three in the morning? Thought you could keep going longer!! Love me |
| 3rd March 2007 Ellie | Wow . . . - From: School trip take two Hey Katherine! Love the views in your photos - I look forward to seeing the lovely album I'm sure you'll make when you finally return. I have a question, however; what happened to the 'no cleavage' idea?! And *how* are you managing to look quite so pristine in such a climate? [feels dishevelled and grimy whilst looking at pictures]. Ugh, v jealous, as always ;-) Also, did I see the word 'postcards'? [pricks up ears] Keep having fun! Ellie x |
| 1st March 2007 Anna | Superb Views!! - From: Flag Day Hi Kat!! Wow those views of the city are amazing. A lift in a cathedral though? How bizarre! Quite surprising for a Catholic country! Good luck with your Spanish... are you going to survive with it in Cuenca??? Looking forward to receiving your postcard. Speak to you soon. |
| 28th February 2007 Wahid | Hi - From: The Middle of the World!!!!!! Hi Katherine! Hope you are enjoying yourself there. They are lovely photos - keep putting more on. We love to hear about your adventures. Hope to hear from you soon and take care of yourself. Have fun! xxxx |
| 28th February 2007 Ellie | Where is your shopping stamina?! - From: Shopping time! Nooooooo! You simply MUST haggle! Do not abandon your bargain sense - I know you can be stubborn if you want to be! Ugh, massively jealous of 1) all the lovely hand crafted stuff in pretty colours 2) good weather and 3) the prices! :-0 And who says you can't wear blue? E xxx |
| 28th February 2007 Ellie | Nifty! - From: The Middle of the World!!!!!! Hallo! Or should I salute you with 'Hola'?! Sounds like you're having lots of fun - well, apart from the buses, obviously. Do any of the bugs in the photo find their way onto the local menus? ;-) I'm quite disappointed that you opted for burger and chips (although I do understand the comfort element) - honestly, you go halfway around the world and you eat burgers, find bakeries and pharmacies and have free salsa lessons . . . I don't even get that here! [glows faintly green] When are you off to the Galapogas islands? Take care, E xx |
| 27th February 2007 Anna | Oh Pretty Waterfalls - From: School trip! Hi Kat! Lovely photos. It's so nice to see all the places you talk about. I love your travel blog - well done! Hope you feel much better now. Don't let puking slow you down (it's all part and parcel of the gap year experience anyway - and you must be a pro by now!) Take care and have fun!! |
| 27th February 2007 Anna | Never trust bus drivers.... - From: The Middle of the World!!!!!! Sounds like you had a genuine gap year experience with that lying bus driver. Why is it only on gap years that people happily hop onto buses without checking where they really go? Glad you seemed so completely unconcerned about finding yourself miles from home and not knowing your way back...... hope you have many more crazy adventures! (Just try to come home in one piece too!!) |
| 27th February 2007 Anna | Shopping!!!!! - From: Shopping time! Wow!! That looks like one super-duper shopping centre. I'm afraid I can't compete with scarves and wooden spoons, but I have just got a laptop (and I still get to watch Desperate Housewives!!) Still very jealous though - say hello to the equator for me!!! |
| 26th February 2007 Me! | - From: Shopping time! Whoo! Finally managed to get photos the right way up. Go me! |
| 26th February 2007 Tim | hehe - From: Shopping time! looking at the scarf piccy im sure you could blend in if you wanted |
| 21st February 2007 Anna | Life of luxury - From: First day of school. Hi Tats! This is what you call a Gap Year! Tea, food cooked for you, free salsa lessons?!? You certainly know how to do it in style! No roughing it for you obviously. When is the hard work going to start? Wish I could be there with you, Your Wonderfully Jealous Big Sister, Anna. |
| 20th February 2007 Keely | Congradulations! - From: First day of school. Yaaaay you made it Katherine!!! I bet you didn't think you'd ever get something from me huh?? Any ways I'm so l glad your having a good time! Here, to keep you up-to-date with our President's stupidity, I'll send you quotes whenever I write something. By the way, is it hot over there right now??? -Keely I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don't always agree with them. - W. Bush |
| 18th February 2007 Anna Matson | Wow! - From: Almost there! Hey Katherine!! Sounds like an exciting trip! Tell us poor folks at home all about it! Make sure you have lots of adventures.... it makes for more exciting reading! Love Anna. |
