Well I spent all day Monday resting my ankle, which was very swollen & badly bruised. Was raging because I had planned to see and do so much. An girl from Sligo called Siun came into my room on Sunday night and it turns out she's on the same flights home as me. So yesterday we both got up really early to try to book onto a Blue Mountains tour. The early morning one was booked out so we ended up booking onto one that left at 10am. As it turned out we got to go with a deluxe tour because that your wasn't full. We began with a boomerang demonstration & it really came back. Then we began our climb up into the mountains. We passed through some really pretty towns. Then we were taken ... read more

As anybody who's been following my blog for the past while will know and as Niamh and Mark will testify the past few weeks I've become slightly accident prone or maybe just plain clumsy! Well today I paid the price for it... Yesterday I went to Paddys Markets, which is apparently a bit of an institution in Sydney & I bought a few bits. I met an elderly man at one of the stalls, who was very interested in me when he heard my accent, he asked about 50 questions. When he heard I was a teacher he said they were crying out for teachers here & he figured I should just move here, to get away from 'the terrorists' because he maintained it was only going to get worse in England and at home and ... read more

I finally arrived in Sydney this morning after a long & boring drive from Brisbane. Yesterday I had a bit of a chilled out day and decided not to drive at all as I had done about 500 kilometres the previous day so I spent the day in Newcastle, not doing a huge amount. I had tried on Wednesday to change my flights home to avoid the Hong Kong stopover, but they said it wasn't possible because all the flights were booked up until September. Then I checked on the net yesterday and saw there were flights available any day next week, so I called again & they said those flights weren't available to them, so I was kind of resigned to spending some time in Hong Kong and even enquired about a hotel there. When ... read more

So my road trip began yesterday when I dropped Niamh and Mark at Brisbane airport & headed in the direction of the Gold Coast. I contemplated going back to Byron but the weather wasn't great & I was conscious that I needed to do at least 250 kilometres a day. So I drove on to Ballina which was like a retirement village - but after the past 2 weeks it was a welcome break! The hostel owner was full of chat as I checked in & he invited me out for drinks, I'd say he was anticipating just how quiet an evening lay ahead of me & perhaps that I was the youngest thing Ballina had seen in an age. I declined & took a ramble around the town, then I made it back to the ... read more

Well as the title suggests I've lots and lots of catching up to do with this blog. As I explained in my previous entry I dropped my camera into the sea in Noosa last week, but it got even better because I fell coming down a little cliff on Fraser Island and dropped it, breaking the shutter so there are no photos accompanying these entries till I get myself sorted! On top of all that 6 or 7 of my blog entries were deleted & only for Maria (Sarah's friend) I'm not sure I'd have ever got any of them back and they were all of my travels in Oz. So anyhow enough whining for now and time to catch up. Me, Niamh & Mark headed to Fraser Island last Wednesday morning. We took a ferry ... read more

It's definitely been a while and I've been a busy bee. Not sure when last I wrote but think it was from Airlie Beach. So here goes - I finally dragged my beach bum behind away from Airlie on Wednesday and took a bus to Prosperpine where I got a flight to Brisbane. I checked into a hostel near the train station for convenience more than anything and in my room was the single most annoying Canadian I've ever met in my life - needless to say the mood was the greatest. This was exemplified by the fact that I'd been out the previous night with the guys from Port Douglas. So I was in serious self pitying mood. Niamh and Mark were arriving from Ireland on Wednesday night and we'd planned to meet up at ... read more

I'm beginning to think that perhaps Saturdays are just good days for me on this trip, last week I had the amazing trip to the Great Barrier Reef and I honestly didn't think it could get any better than that, but today came pretty close. Again when you see the photos be prepared to be insanely jealous! Today I went sailing in the Whitsundays. It was just spectacular, total food for the soul. We first sailed out around Whitsunday island & Hook Island and then we stopped at the side of the island to take a walk up to the lookout - oh my god it was so stunning up there, really it was a feast for the eyes - I could have stayed there all day long! You could see absolutely huge stingrays just ... read more

Oh my god I just don't even know where to begin. Today was definitely one of those days when you totally understand what travelling is all about - I've had the single most amazing experience of my travels! I got up ealy this morning and dropped back my car to the hire company, then I got my bits together (must also add I'd a bit of a late one last night with a whole host of nationalities) and went to catch a bus to the marina - which is about 2 minutes walk from where I'm staying. I met 2 girls at the reception who were doing the same trip, both were called Katie and both were teachers, so we had the 3 Katies off on an amazing adventure. We had to travel for about ... read more

On Monday I went to the Rialto Tower and climbed up to the top (ok in the lift!) the view was amazing there and was a lovely way to finish my trip to Melbourne. That night I cooked dinner for Sarah, Maria, Karen and Sinead and then Sarah came hopme with four lovely glittery(!) cupcakes for me with candles on them to celebrate my upcoming birthday, we just vegged for the night and watched tv, then I'd a really restless nights sleep. Got up to say goodbye to Sarah on Tuesday morning. And then left Melbourne at 12pm and caught a flight, or rather 2 flights (with a stopover in Sydney) to Cairns where I'm at right now. When we landed at 6.30pm the pilot said the temperature outside was 24 degrees!! I got a ... read more

It's my last day in Melbourne & it's kind of strange to be leaving here, because I feel like I've been here forever! It's fair to say I've kept Sarah on her toes over the past 2 weeks & I've no doubt she'll be only too glad to see the back of me! For the past few days I've just being hanging around Melbourne spending quality time with my little sis! On Thursday I went to the Melbourne Museum, which was lovely especially because they had an exhibition about Aborigines, which I found very interesting. Then i just took it easy around the city. I met Sarah after work and we went to see the new Harry Potter movie, which wasn't that great to be honest. Friday I didn't do a huge amount, went into ... read more
