Fascinating account Kate, thank you for your fascinating account of your first impressions. The diversity of the experiences is a surprise - once again though you are rising to the subtlety and reflecting on the implications. I look forward to hearing more. Miranda
Friends to the core Dear Kate
Sorry you and the mice ain't getting on but I bet they would love some Almaty apple if you have some to spare. I guess a new country is difficult at first until you get on its waylength. The contrast between old and new seems to be very stark in Kaz with mineral wealth projecting them into the fast lane but a president who believes in old style Khanism. Fascinated to hear more (no pun in tended Doc!).
We will toast you at the October social so hope a little of that warmth wil travel the ether and help to keep you warm as the thermometer drops. Love Ed & Elspeth
Welcome to my travel diary.
This travel blog was started when I took a year to travel round the world in 2005-6. It was a fabulous year spent in three continents: Africa, Asia and South America. I met many people and had many adventures.
Over the following three to four years, I regularly travelled to the Rift Valley in Kenya as part of my PhD study.
I then worked for two years as a Research Associate visiting nomadic herders in Mongolia and Kazakhstan.
I am still travelling as and when I can.
I hope that you will enjoy my journals and keep in touch.
