Kia Ora (hello in Maori), Hope you are all well! So sorry for delay in getting the New Zealand blogs to you! We arrived in Auckland on Sunday and spent a week with Liz (Anton's mum's friend from Fiji) and her two standard poodles, Richie McPaw (6 months) and Lima (2 years). Liz's husband, Hugh, was there on Sunday but left to work away in Nelson on Monday morning. On Sunday night, Liz's mum, dad, brother (Spencer) and his wife, daughter and daughter's husband came over for dinner. Liz cooked a lamb curry and a vegetable curry and Spencer brought over a chicken curry. I was so worried that they were going to be too hot and wouldn't be able to eat them, but they were fine and really tasty - Liz is a great cook! ... read more

Farewell Australia!

Hi Guys! We spent 5 days with Anton's cousin, Tracy, in Coogee, which is just down from Bondi. We saw Andrew, Tracy's partner, for a few hours on the Saturday as he was flying out to work on the oil rigs for 6 weeks that evening. On Sunday, Tracy got called into work (she's an air hostess for Qantas) so Anton and I went to explore Coogee. As we were walking along the main street, a girl was giving away free greek yoghurts; so we accepted the offer and ate the delicious yoghurt as we were walking along! On the way back to the apartment, the girl was still giving away the yoghurts and told us to take as many as we liked - result! I picked up 2 and Anton picked up 6!!! At $2 ... read more

Hi All, We hope everyone had good New Year Celebrations and are getting into the swing of 2012! Anton and I are now on a health kick as carbs, biscuits and chocolates have crept up on us and the clothes are feeling tight! We will hopefully be back to our normal sizes by the time we return home! Firstly I need to say 'woohoo' to Holy Cross as we came 1st in the Plymouth league tables! I'm so chuffed and gutted I wasn't there to share the celebrations. Well done everyone and a special shout out to Mrs Cotter who was instrumental in getting Holy Cross to the top!! Well, we had a few more days in Bondi after New Year and spent some time relaxing on the beach - which was full of gorgeous, fit ... read more

Hi Campers!, On 23rd December we caught our last greyhound bus to Sydney; our last stop in our Australian adventure! We arrived in central Sydney at lunch time and caught a taxi to North Bondi where Rory (Anton's friend from uni) lived. He met us from the taxi and showed us into his apartment that he shares with another English man called Ben (they both manage bars called Bavarian Bier Cafe, Rory in Bondi and Ben in Crows Nest). The lounge window in the apartment looked over the famous Bondi Beach. Rory very kindly gave up his room for us and was going to sleep on the sofa for the next 10 days! That afternoon Rory walked us down to Bondi Beach and then we went on a coastal walk to Tamarama beach; luckily the weather ... read more

Hi all! We arrived at Newcastle (one of the oldest cities in Australia) late morning and found our hostel. It was a very grand building and reminded us of Harry Potter. We had a look around the hostel and then took the free shuttle bus to the shop to get some food. The weather was very wet that afternoon; luckily we had a dvd player in our room so watched 'The Hangover'. That evening the weather brightened up and we had read about carols in the park, which was next to our hostel, so we headed out to get in the Christmassy mood. We watched a church band play some modern songs and then we sang a few carols; it was nice but not quite as nice as being dressed in coats and scarves singing carols! ... read more

Hi blog readers!, We left Byron Bay on the smelliest (of wee) greyhoud bus and headed to Port Macquarie. We arrived at Port Macquarie in the early evening and booked in to our double room. What we weren't expecting was a double room that belonged to our own one-bedroom flat!! It was a street away from the hostel and had it's own kitchen, bathroom and tv! How lucky were we!!! We couldn't believe that we were paying $74 a night for the flat and yet we were paying $100 a night in Byron Bay for a tiny room with shared amenities! The next morning we enjoyed our free breakfast at the hostel and enquired about things to do in Port Mac. We wanted to horse-ride, but they didn't do it along the beach, so we opted ... read more

Byron Bay

Published: January 1st 2012Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Byron Bay

Hi All!! Once we left Jason, Deanna and Tenaya, we took the greyhound to Byron Bay. As Byron Bay was in New South Wales, we had to add an hour to our clocks and so, by the time we arrived at the hostel, it was quite late. We got settled in our room and went to bed for a very long sleep; until 11am the next day!! We woke up to very stormy weather, with extremely heavy rain every 30mins or so. We needed some shopping and were lucky to get into the shops in between the showers and get our food. We then spent the rest of the afternoon reading in bed, whilst it rained outside. Anton made us a lovely Nasi Goreng for dinner and we had an evening of scrabble and then another ... read more

Hello everyone! Thought it was about time I gave this blog writing another go, so bare with me whilst I get to grips with thinking and writing at the same time... Multi-tasking!!! After we said a sad goodbye to Ning and Ann (wish we could have stayed longer), we headed to The Gold Coast and were fortunate enough to have an offer to stay with my 1st cousin Jason, his fiance Deanna and their gorgeous little daughter Tenaya. Our coach pulled into Southport station and Jason was waiting to pick us up. It was really strange to meet him again after so long (over 30yrs), but we all got along great and both him and Deanna made us feel so welcome! It was made even better by their daughter Tenaya, who was just about the cutest ... read more

Hi Bloggers!! We arrived in Wellington Point (Brisbane) just before lunch and were very warmly welcomed into Shane (Dot's son) and Glenda's beautiful house. They have an upside down house with the kitchen and living area having beautiful views. They also have their very own media room which is like having a small cinema in the house; Anton was salivating and now wants a bigger house to build his own media room!!!! We had a cup of tea with Bea and John and met Shane and Glenda's son, Ash, and then Bea and John left to visit friends and relatives in Brisbane. Once we were settled, Shane and Glenda took us for a walk to Wellington Point and then treated us to a superb lunch overlooking the bay; we felt so spoilt! They were so easy ... read more

Pomona and Bribie!

Published: December 8th 2011Oceania » Australia » Queensland

Yet another blog campers!!! On Friday morning we were collected by John (Anton's mum's cousin's husband!!) from our hostel in Maroochydore and taken to their house in Pomona. Bea (Del's cousin) and John live a beautiful house set on 6 acres of land! John showed us around the house whilst Bea was at work and then we had a walk around the grounds - they even have their own creek and cottage! John and Bea's daughter, Julia, and her family were living in the cottage whilst trying to save some money. We were in awe of the size of their house and the amount of space that they had. I think they would get a culture shock having to live in our semi-detached and terraced houses! John made us a sandwich for lunch and then his ... read more
