| 28th July 2009 Stephen Paul | Great Job - From: cleaning out my closet The writing in this one is so intriguing! I mean, what's happening in 3.4 years? And what a photo, she looks like quite a specimen to work with. |

| 28th January 2009 Katie McDonald | Open your eyes - From: One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster The orangutan show this uneducated person describes was shut down due to the 100 odd abused and illegally obtained apes being confiscated and returned to rehab centres in the hope of someday putting them back where the belong. Of course this will not help the 700 orangutans that were probably killed or died in transit in the safari parks effort to obtain its show animals. Well done to this idiot for creating a demand which will probably lead to more orangutans being illegally hunted and killed so that their babies can be made to perform in these shows for the "homer simpsons" of the world. |
| 27th December 2008 Phil Coppleman | BURMA? - From: There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear Where is Burma, is is somewhere between Bangaldesh India,China and Thailand, never been to Burma, been to Myanmar. Well thats what my Visa reads. Are we discriminating, I mean some travel to Mumbai, not Bombay, some travel to Beijing, not Peking. Research tells me the name Burma, only represets one group of people in Myanmar and by being devisive and disrespectful to Myanmar, maybe we are encouraging a South East Asian 'Yugoslavia'. |

| 31st October 2007 Donna | Sounds great - what company did you go with? - From: Halong Bay I know you don't know me, but I read your blog and your trip round Halong Bay sounds amazing!! I'm off to Vietnam myself next month and have heard horror stories about this trip from people who have been ripped off. What company did you do this tour with? |
| 20th October 2007 Stephen Paul | Im loving it - From: Istanbul I love this blog, all the pictures are so exotic and your writing is great. Hey, my mom wants to know if you're married?? |
| 5th October 2007 Bob Marley | Don't dis on hippies... - From: Hippies. They're everywhere. They wanna save the earth, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad. ...at least they care about the wider world, which is more than you can say about most people. i'm going to vang vieng! forget about the tubing, the view, or watching Friends. Serve me up some happy pancakes washed down with some opium tea!!!!!!!!!! |
| 22nd September 2007 Stephen Paul | Kate has Seoul - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe You should be getting a commission from the Korean Tourist Board! |
| 19th September 2007 Christine | Kate Kate Kate - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe Kate, what can I say. you are seriously amazing. You should be a writer. I LOVE reading these. |
| 19th September 2007 Marcoelitaliano | A gifted teacher. - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe Being myself a foreigner (meaning not english mother-tongue apart from not korean) I always saw the EFL business from the other side and, believe me, the first quality I used to look for in a teacher was sense of humour, not technical perfection. The teaching school you have enroled in will probably improve your skills but the raw material seems to be already excepcionally good. I somehow loved this entry. Ah, by the way, would I chose a language school employing young and attractive blond girls rather than one where teachers look like mummies? ... YES, I would :-) |
| 17th September 2007 James | i'm coming with you next time - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe best entry evverr. seriously, i am. sold. i'll give you a ring around christmas time if you're around. have a good semester... |
| 17th September 2007 Kate Hildebrand | Hi Melanie - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe PoC = people of color= non-white person. I got a little sloppy on my abbreviations. And yeah you might have to fight a little bit to get work over here but that K-belief that only white people can speak English has got to go. If you can speak fluent Korean that would be a plus, you do see quite a few ads for Gyopos. Canadians get a 6 months tourist visa free btw ^_^ |
| 17th September 2007 Lacey | Aww! - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe I AM SO JEALOUS, I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS! I'm really not keen on the whole sojourning out on my own in a foreign country where I don't speak the language aspect of ti though. |
| 17th September 2007 Melanie | What's a PoC? - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe Really entertaining blog entry. I'm a Korean-Chinese-Canadian (my mom's from Seoul) and I definitely want to visit sometime soon! I too think it's atrocious that many Asian countries prefer/only hire Caucasian looking people... For someone who's interested in teaching English, but is partially Asian, this is incredibly frustrating! |
| 17th September 2007 dangerrob | ^_^ - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe omg your photos are so beautiful, is it sad that I'm most fascinated by the LaLa teletubbie creature? |
| 17th September 2007 dangerrob | ^_^ - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe "It made life easy for me, but it's wrong and it sucks." I love the way you articulate that tension <3 |
| 17th September 2007 megerah5872 | WOW - From: North Korea South Korea Marilyn Monroe I PERSONALLY THINK THIS WAS THE BEST BLOG ENTRY I HAVE EVER READ. ENGLISH TEACHERS RULE. |

But why do they have to be so good, you are helping kick my blog off the front page!! ha ha. I guess thats what I get for posting on Friday night. | 3rd June 2007 Waderlusting | Kimchi rules! - From: ~*~*~SEOUL FLY~*~*~ Great blog! And I happened to see your hilarious Vien Vieng blog (hippies, haha) and when I was there last year, I stayed far out of town and came into the contruction zone only to do the tubing, which was virtually empty since it was sprinkling... nonetheless, for me, it was not so bad... plus I had great company. Anyhow, but those happy shakes are something to steer clear from. Having taught in Korea for the past 1.5 yrs, it's nice to be away, though the bbq photos make me miss it a bit. :) |
| 13th April 2007 Quang | Awsome blog. - From: Getting down and dirty in Sapa Stumbles into your blog. Easily the most entertaining blogger I came across. Modern Talking, this 80s band literally make Chuck Norris cries, glad you got to experience it haha. |
| 9th April 2007 Veronica | Kate - From: Human Castles and Montserrat Kate I don't have words to express what i felt when I red your post about Catalonia, about the castells and about the freedom petiton for catalonia. Your are laughing all the time and explain it with irony. I think this is not an actitud form an inteligent person and I think you don't have nothing about history I'm sorry but you are totally stupid you don't have any word to describe you better. |
| 11th March 2007 Kim | Locals in exile - From: Hippies. They're everywhere. They wanna save the earth, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad. Did you know they've built a new market a couple of kms out of town and the locals are moving there, leaving the "old" town to the hippies. now that's really sad!! |
| 10th February 2007 Governor | Amazing Women Traveller - From: Istanbul Kate, You are amazing. You are certainly a world traveller. Your blogs are great. I wish you safe travels. Are you home in school? Kent |

| 24th January 2007 The Greek | - From: Istanbul Your immediate response is amazing. Thank you so much!! Your blog is really great, I'm serfing (travelling) allday long - my boss will kill me! |
| 24th January 2007 The Greek | Just a small remark - From: Istanbul Turkey is a great country and Instabul is a unique city. Your blog is really nice but I would like to make a remark. The temple called "Hagia Sophia" was built by Orthodoxes. The Byzantines were Orthodoxes, not Catholics. Please bear in mind that issues like nationality, history and religion in Balkan and Minor Asia are extremely sensitive. |
| 19th January 2007 Aunt Becky | So close!! - From: Istanbul Great pics! We would love to have you visit here welcome here in Abu Dhabi!!....In regards to high expectations, be warned --the oldest building here is 30 years old and the national pasttime is tearing buildings down to rebuild....but we have losts of mosques!--little ones big ones, and some in between. UAE is also a great jumping off point to visit Iran--you can practically swim over! |
| 18th January 2007 meganana | - From: Istanbul Merhaba! Turkey is my new roommate's favorite country, quite possibley ever. We drink turkish chai all the time while playing backgammon and he teaches me baby-turkish phrases. I hope you're having fun!!! |
| 18th January 2007 anonymous | Wow it's Kate! - From: Srbija REDUX Kate, I miss you tons, I am sorry for being shitty about keeping in touch. Go check your email I sent you an email. I am glad to read this journal and am uber jealous on your travels, I am still in Vancouver, with 2 more terms to go, with psycho weather (it keeps snowing!). Keep traveling and being kickin' rad and hopefully we can reunite at some point, btw I like your hair! -Christine |
| 18th January 2007 anonymous | Hello Katie do you remember me - From: Srbija REDUX you look great and i like your hair color |
| 18th January 2007 Governor | Another Great Blog!!! - From: Srbija REDUX Kate: I have been looking forward to your blog. You are one of the best. I wish I could take off on a whim. Say hello to your great Mother who lets you do all of this, and the rest of your family. Kent |
| 12th January 2007 Grace | - From: Lovely Luang Prabang hi Kate, I'm a Cambodian. I've travelled to quite a few of my neighbor countries. Ur blogs are quite a reflection to what i've experienced too. U sounded a bit negative on Cambodia. But what u felt is true. I havent been to Laos though, but it appeared in my dreams a couple of times. The place gives me a sense of peacefulness. I hope i can get to spend some time there with my girlfriend. (wink wink~) |
| 12th January 2007 Grace | Yeah right - From: Holiday in Cambodia Hi kate, This morning, i came across this page about ur trip to Cambodia. It's like a reflection. sometimes, people feel pathetic living here... it can be even more pathetic if u're a girl. This life is crazy. Last night, oprah said u'd be the luckiest woman if u're born in america, i guess i'm not that lucky. But i appreciate everything i got here, every loved one i've met here. |
| 4th January 2007 Marcoelitaliano | About tipping - From: Easy Riding Vol. 2 Hi Kate, I don't quiete agree with your views about tipping when travelling in developing countries. I mean, truly enough to give away a 2$ tip to someone who did something for you can results very natural for you (or for us) but it isn't for people living in a country where earning 100$ per month is the rule. By doing that you create such a huge unbalance that more and more locals will see you (or us, again) as simple cash points on legs. Paying your guide 50$ a day in Vietnam then... man, you can bet that guy has by now built a shrine with your pic in his house and is awaiting for you to go back as much as a jew can be looking forward for the coming messiah! That said, I like your blog and your very independent travelling attitude. Keep up with the good mood. Marco |
| 7th December 2006 Stephen Paul | great pics! - From: Thieves in the Temples I love your pictures from this post... Makes me want to visit Burma right away! |
