After my short but actionpacked trip to Sri Lanka I needed some time to chill. I knew that the best place to do it , is Mamallapuram. I have been there before and I know a good hotel, I know all the restaurants, touts, vendors, so if I want to be alone ( which is quiet a feat in India ) this is the place to be. After leaving the airconditioned airport building in Chennai the heat attacked me. for the first half an hour it was difficult to breath and I started to sweat like there is no tomorrow. I soon got used to it tho and got in a prepaid taxi . The cabdriver told me that there was a big fire in Mamallapuram and my hotel burned down, but he will take me ... read more

An amazing country where the bus driver stops in the middle of the road in between villages when he sees that you are trying to take a picture, or stops your connecting bus in the middle of the road , so you can catch it and get faster to your destination. Where the people who sits on the public transport holds the heavy burdens of those who standing ( from bags to kids ; ) Where no matter where you go, you will be greated with smiles. Where everybody is happy to talk to you and they are happy to just do that. Where when it rains a total stranger will share his or her umbrella or invite you in for a tea. Where you can rent a bike and if you don't use it, the ... read more

You can't go to Sri Lanka and not to have a cup of Ceylon Tea( mind you the name of the country has changed in 1972, the tea is still called Ceylon) I went to find out the place from where a good cuppa comes from... After wondering around the Ancient cities I left for the hill country to educate myself and learn a bit about Tea Processing. I have learned some new words like Withering, Rolling, Fermenting ( ok I knew fermenting before : ) and took a stroll in a friendly aromatic tea factory of Dambutenne where the workers greeted me with smiles and a steaming cup of Lipton. I wondered around the Tea estates (they look like manicured lawns : ) I walked up to Lipton's Seat from where I enjoyed an amazing ... read more

I have wondered around the beach in Madras, had a glimpse of the famous Bollywood, but after all, Tamil Nadu's Capital was much too congested and noisy to my taste, so I headed to the beach. I have spent 2 relaxing weeks in Mamallapuram where I admired some Pallava ruines and temples, but mainly I just enjoyed reading and chilling for awhile giving my stomach a rest from chilly and curry ( which , I must confess, by now is not so amusing and I got a bit bored of ...) so I enjoyed myself -and stuffed- in the Western tourist orientated restaurants featuring Pizzas, Burgers and the likes : ))) Körüljártam Madrast, bekukkantottam a Hollywoodi filmgyártás kulisszatitkai közé, de mivel Tamil Nadu fővárosát túlnyüzsgőnek találtam becéloztam a tengerpartot, hol 2 hétig pihentem Pallava romok és ... read more

Coconut Palm trees touching the blue sky, ancient temples, Puri, the friendly town with the views of the Bay of Bengal, Chilika Lake the fantastic Lagoon offering refugee to the migrating birds coming from as far as Siberia and Manchuria crossing the Himalayas, Bhubaneswar with its sublime temples and architecture, sunshine and friendly people greeted me in Orissa. I have enjoyed every minute of it: ) I have stayed in a hotel, once home of a Maharaja, enjoyed the view of the green rice fields and could not help but smile while many of the Indian tourists lined up to take a picture with me in Konark in front of the majestic Sun Temple : ))) Égig érő pálmafák, a több száz éves templomok közül kiemelkedő Sun Temple, egy barátságos tengerparti városka mely Puri névre hallgat, ... read more

I wondered around the streets of this magical city. I have seen beautiful buildings left from the Brittish Era, well kept gardens, friendly people. However I also have seen misery, families living on the streets, infants crying in hunger and countless beggars... but I must say I also have seen hope. Many NGO's working hard to change things around here to improve living standards. The city which gave home to Tagore , and it's name linked forever to our Dearly Beloved Mother Teresa is truly inspiring. Láttam azonban nyomort is, éhségtől síró csecsemőket kórosan sovány felnőtteket, utcán lakó családokat és milliónyi kold... read more

I was supposed to be in Varanasi, but obviously I am not. It is said that India rewards those who go with the flow. well I didn't really have much alternative ( nor does anyone else in here) you just have to go with the flow. My train delayed 7 hours, so I have missed all the connecting trains -save one- to Varanasi , and I missed that one too as the manager refused to change my ticket. He told me that the ticket was invalid and I should have cancelled before the train has left the station, the fact that I was on another train and the actual connection I have missed departed at 3:30 AM 5 hours prior to my arrival on the Patna Railway station -he said- was my problem and it is ... read more

For the first timer India can be rough. So I decided to take it slow. After Darjeeling I headed north towards Sikkim to do some trekking and get to know this remote part of the Himalayas. After a couple of days in Gangtok I headed to the Western part of Sikkim to complete what they call the Monastic Trek. Unfortunately the Weather was not the best so I had no views of Kangchendzonga at all, but this fact didn't stop me to walk up and down the hillsides. The most charming of Sikkim is its people and I have been lucky to get to know some of them. I have been invited to a kitchen to see how a 15 years old boy prepares the Thali with his 10 years old Sous Chef( Indian staple food ... read more

After Nepal, Bhutan was a real breath of fresh air much needed. From the first minute after I have left Tribhuvan Intl Airport I knew that I wont regret my hasty decision. The Flight rewarded me with beautiful views of the Himalayan range, the peaks Mt Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchendzonga stood in the sunshine while we flew over Sikkim and Darjeeling. If I tell you that Bhutan is different, you will say, oh yeah you've said that in every single country you have visited so far... and you are right, But this time it is something really special tho. Even the airport is different. Just as every building I have seen in the Kingdom the airport too has been built bhutanese style whitewashed with beautifully painted wooden windows and ornaments . Upon arrival Airport employees ... read more
