In Mazunte me and Emilie couchsurfed at a yoga centre, we slept under a mozzie net under the stars with beautiful views of the coast below. We could have joined in some of the classes for free, but decided to spend our time relaxing on the beach! From Mazunte we headed to Puerto Escondido a very touristy town, with nice beaches perfect for surfers and not so great for swimming! We met up with Petra and Simeon, couchsurfers we met in Poza Rica and spent most of the week just hanging out on the beach and relaxing in our cabin. A perfect way to relax in time for heading home! We did a quick stop in Acapulco as it was Emilies birthday and a good place to party! Then it was time to stay goodbye as ... read more

It was quite a nice surprise arriving in Ciudad Valles, we weren't expecting much, but its a tropical city with a lovely plaza and a long walk along a pretty river. The reason we stopped here is that the area is surrounded by rivers and waterfalls, the one we went to was Tamasopo. There was a series of waterfalls coming out of the trees and lots of pools to swim in, it was a beautiful place to spend the day. We also visited Los Pozas in Xilitla, its an area of strange buildings and pools created by an english eccentric, Edward James in the 60-70's. He died before it was ever finished, its a bit like walking around in Wonderland! The next day was a bus day, on our way to Poza Rica to stay with ... read more

I arrived in Durango early in the morning and went to stay with Frida and Jorge, arriving in time to have breakfast before they headed off to work and i had to be out of the flat! Durango´s a lovely city to wander around in and enjoy the cute little parks and plazas, which is exactly what i did for the 2 days i was there. Frida only works till 3pm so both days i met her after work and she took me for a late lunch at some lovely cafes. Jorge is a vet and on the first afternoon he took me with him to a lovely Hacienda where he had to check up on some horses and then back to his surgery to see to some poorly dogs, it was all very interesting! I arrived in Guadalajara to stay with Susy and Sergio in their lovely little flat. They took me out for delicious Sopes and to see some live bands in the plaza one night. I also met with Prisca another couchsurfer who took me to Cochala, to a Mariachi festival. It was an interesting experience, she works for the government in the cultural department and was invited as a special guest, so we got taken on a tour out to a hacienda and around the local churches as well as special treatment at the opening of the festival. I also spent a lovely day wondering around Downtown and visiting the art galleries, all free on Sundays! Next i headed to Bucerias, a town just north of Puerto Vallarta. I stayed with the crazy, but lovely Su De ... read more

I arrived in Mexico and headed to stay with a lovely lady Edith and her family. I found them on couchsurfing.org and this is how i´ll be making my way around Mexico, by staying on peoples couch´s! I had a few days in the city, everyone says how dangerous Mexico city is, but i felt pretty safe wandering around on my own and using the metro, to get from Edith´s into the city. I went to the city centre on the Sunday when most of the museums are free, the folkloric art was my favourite with all the ´day of the dead´ skeletons. Theres also Aztec ruins rightin the centre of the city at Templo mayor, where the Aztecs believe the centre of the universe is! I also hung out in the laid back suburb of ... read more

Had a lovely time staying with Ivonne in Quito, she´s such a great host, she even went out and bought a blowup bed for me. Her sister was also visiting from Colombia, she didn´t speak english and my spanish needs improving, but she cooked me some delicious vegetarian meals! I went on a day trip to Otavalo with Emma, Hoonie and Hugh, who i met on the Galapagos trip. I´d been before, but it was nice to get out of the city and we did some stops on the way to eat strange fruit and admire the scenery. I got myself a few things in the market and we also went to Cocacha for a not very nice lunch and to check out the leather shops the place is famous for. I also went to Baños ... read more

It took nearly 24hrs to get to Quito from Auckland, thankfully i arrived in the evening cause the only thing i wanted when i arrived was to sleep. I´m stayed in a nice quiet hostel on the edge of the old town with a lovely roof top view over the city. My first day was spent sorting out a last minute trip to the Galapagos islands. I spent more than i planned but im going on a luxury yacht and visiting more islands than most other trips, plus although its a lot its half price! I spent a couple of days wandering around the old town, taking in the lovely buildings and plaza´s, although i´ve been here before its changed a bit, they´ve had a big clean up and there´s lots of police around to deter ... read more

My first stop in NZ was Christchurch to see Sarah, Ian and their gorgeous daughter Lily (and Dory the crazy deaf cat!). I met Sarah travelling in Australia 10 yrs ago. It was pretty cold after being in Australia so the flipflops and shorts went away and i had to start wearing jeans and jumpers again! Had some lovely days out, went to Lyttleton and Akaroa on the Banks peninsula, thankfully the sun came out for a few minutes each day! I got a new Tattoo, well Ian is a tattooist so it would have been silly not to! My last day the sun finally came out properly, we went to Willowbank to see Kiwi's and other native NZ animals and managed to fit in a bbq before i had to get my flight to Auckland. ... read more

Australia has been all about catching up with family and friends, i've done all the touristy things, so it was time for a break from travelling. I started in Brisbane and stayed with Zoe and Aaron, friends i met in Bolivia while volunteering with Pumas. After living in hostels for ages it was great to finally be in a house again and with a pet, their lovely Boxer, Red. We had a lovely day out on Coochimudlo island and after coming from HK and Singapore, sightseeing in the city didn't take long! It was then on to Gillies, whos garden i used to help with years ago. She lives in a lovely house north of Brisbane, surrounded by farmland. The cats are house cats because of all the deadly snakes, although i didn't see any! I ... read more

I landed in Singapore at 6pm, checked into my hostel and headed straight to the zoo to go on the night safari. Its a lovely set up, apart from the road and pathed trail it is quite jungle like. You ride on a buggy with a guide telling you all about the animals. Theres a spot you get off and wander around to see the big cats and fruit bats. The highlight is the creatures of the night show, unfortunately it started pouring down with rain just as the show started, its not undercover so they had to cancel! The next day I headed to Little Indian with a Taiwanese lady, its a really great place to just wander around, take in the sights and eat delicious samosas. We visited the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, full of ... read more
