Loved the relaxed life style. Loved the availability of beer. Loved the price of beer. Loved the company. Loved the graffiti. Loved the trashy/trendy people. Were happy to leave. 3/7/09 After our tiring day of travelling we were happy to meet Phil at the airport, where he was waiting patiently for us at the gate. As previously stated, the train from the airport had stopped running on our behalf, so we reluctantly caught a bus to connect to the train to Phil's place in Kreuzberg. We dumped our heavy bags there, and decided to grab some beers and meet Phil's friends [View Full Entry]

29/6/09 We arrived back in Uppsala in the early afternoon. Our friends had made plans to go for a swim at the lake, which sounded great as it was quite hot. We got ourselves organised and drove down, Linnea had her mum's fancy black convertable car and Karen went with her. It's funny how Scandinavians make the most of what little Sun they get by flocking to small, grassy/muddy beaches. We had a nice swim, relaxed in the Sun and took a stroll through the surrounding area. 30/6/09 Tuesday was in the lead up to our final days in Sweden, and [View Full Entry]

Good times!

27/6/09 It took a bus, a commuter train and the metro to get to the party in Stockholm, so the party was in full swing by the time we got there. It was a different kind of party than what we're used to (we usually just fill an eski with beers, have a bbq and put some music on), but they'd gone to a great deal of trouble making these amazing cocktails. The deal was that everyone would bring something, and Egil had taken charge of mixing drinks for everyone (I was particularly impressed by the ice shot glasses, see photos). [View Full Entry]

Overview We mainly came to Uppsala to meet some friends (by proxy) for Midsummer's Eve. It was a great party, and everyone has been wonderful. We've even had some nice sunny weather which has been just dandy! The first half of our time here we spent with Jen, and she's been really good to us. She's shown us around and explained the history of the town. She also organised a night at Buddy's bar to introduce us to everyone. Thanks Jen, you rock! 17/6/09 We reluctantly left Jonas' place just before midday, having packed our lives into our packs yet again. [View Full Entry]

After a long flight from Adelaide we were keen to get out of the airport and stretch our legs, but we only had 7 hrs, so this will be a short entry. We caught a bus to Bugis Street, where there are food courts and markets, and found it was very busy. After traipsing around for a bit, we found some nice Laksas that we were served in metal pots, with a flame underneath to keep it hot. We then had a quick beer before it was time to head back to the airport. It was a nice place, although stinking [View Full Entry]

Overview Sweden is a beautiful country, and the capital, Stockholm, is full of lovingly maintained heritage buildings on a group of islands connected by bridges. The best thing about Sweden, though, is the well natured, friendly attitude of the locals. Everyone we've spoken to has been very helpful and polite, and seem intent on making us feel at home in their country, and we were also impressed at how fluently most of the population speaks English. We were staying in Sodertalje most of the time, which is a half hour train ride from Stockholm Central. Our Couch Surfing host, Jonas, [View Full Entry]
