Still Travelling -- Behind on Blog Posts - From: Amazon 3.0 -- Bicycles of Barcelos, a Four-Minute Photo Essay
Susan, Still travelling, going back to Seattle on the 20th (four flights, yuk). I'll finish the blog when I get back -- haven't had good Internet connections since I was in Manaus, it would take me all day here to post a couple of photos. Kit

Hello from London - From: Amazon 3.0 -- Vines and Epiphytes
Hi Kit In the middle of packing to go back to Seattle and am enjoying your blog for the first time (Aug 15). What an amazing adventure you are having. Like what you are writing about the reality of exchanging dollars, hotels, eating meals. Best of luck with the rest of the trip. susan

Your comment on betting a poorer rate when converting twenties vs. hundreds: instructive.

I see a gallery show & book in the making here! The photos are exceptional, particularly the Hoatzin, birds & tropical downpours. You are truly on the edge out there. Do you plan to do any hiking? Let us know if you see any petroglyphs or other Amazonicus creatures out there. So do we (you?) now have a second home out there somewhere? How far must one travel for drinkable water, or is it all rain water? Love from home base, --Colleen

I hear more animals than I see - From: Amazon 3.0 -- Vines and Epiphytes
I often hear monkeys. Just before dawn when sleeping in a hammock on the deck of Iguana I hear the river dolphins surfacing to breath (seen them also, photos in a later blog entry). One morning -- most of the night actually -- I heard lots of the birds the Brazilians call a ferreiro (blacksmith) as it makes a rather obnoxious sound like metal being struck on an anvil. I recall hearing one once before in a bird market in Recife and was told ''it sings day and night.''

Amazon Zen moments - From: Amazon 3.0 -- Vines and Epiphytes
Fantastic photos, Kit. How about wildlife? You mentioned macaws in an email. What sounds do you hear and what critters have you seen (monkeys, bats, Harpies?). Yes, such a rough life! Enjoy the moments! Colleen

Surreptitious Movements - From: Amazon 3.0
The Portuguese Embassy in Seattle has issued a travel alert regarding the surreptitious movements of a man who resembles Guiseppe Verdi at his prime....in Brazil, specifically Puerto Ayacucho. We can only speculate whether your clandestine perambulations are properly interpreted suspiciously, as if perhaps a double agent or even a triple agent (do they have such critters?)..... Your previous associates at Bellevue Community College are scheduled to testify soon regarding your upstanding character and unquestioned citizenship--this would be in Congress, Wash., D.C., and if we are also asked to testify we would claim the same reimbursement offered for jury duty, plus airfare, and we would say that your travels are simply the case of a man who became bored with retirement, seeking to find adventure abroad. We enjoy the pictures, but could you please send a few showing naked sunbathers along the Orinoco? Ha ha, hang in there big fella.

Ola from Washington - From: Amazon 3.0
It looks adventurous, beautiful, challenging--the trip of a lifetime. I'd love to visit the hotel on the river--very typical South American style. The photos incredible--keep them coming. Love & hugs--Colleen
