France - Bayeux..... One Pizza with Pepperoni, Hold the Snails....! Saturday 26th April 2008 Ah the extremes between typical Aussie vs. typical French cuisine were definitely highlighted to us today when we were checking out the menu at the local pizzeria ... After a lovely French breakfast of fresh bread and preserves, and yakking to Will and a couple from Tampa, Florida while we ate, we spent the day exploring Bayeux, wandering to the tourist office and through the town, the markets etc. But we shall come back to that.... On the way home we checked out a few places for dinner, and came across this little pizza shop about 2 minutes walk from our hotel. Some of the pizzas sounded great, albeit pretty standard ...although after all, you might ask, how bizarre could a pizza ... read more

France - American Cemetery & Memorial, at Colleville Sur Mer, Normandy. Monday 28th April 2008 I was totally unprepared for the emotion of visiting the Normandy American Cemetery & Memorial. We had originally booked a tour of Omaha & Utah beaches, but we had had a lot of long days over the past few weeks touring through the Loire Valley and Provence, and we needed to pace ourselves a bit. For Reagan, constant full days out were just too tiring. So we decided that we would do Villars Bretonneau & Amiens, when we were in Paris with Dean in late June, and just visit the beaches here ourselves. The Normandy American Cemetary and Memorial is between St-Laurent-sur-Mer and Colleville-sur-Mer, and overlooks Omaha Beach. We took the bus from Bayeux to the cemetery, passing through a few ... read more

Spain - Sevilla Monday 31st March - Tuesday 1st April Again, sorry for the post with no photos - this website still has issues with uploding them which is getting kinda frustrating. But you can see all on my facebook, as I'm uploading them there every few days. If this isn't resolved soon Im going to switch to another blog site Anyway... We caught the AVE High Speed train from Madrid to Seville. It’s a lot more expensive than the bus, however the trip also only takes 2.5 hours, whereas the bus takes over 5, so you either pay with time or money when choosing to travel around here. There are some very cheap flights between places but watch out for the hidden costs if you take one - taxes, they charge you per bag and ... read more

Ireland - Dublin & Bru Na Boinne Wednesday 26th - Friday 27th March Up early today...the bus left Doolin for Dublin at 8am. We are looking forward to seeing Dublin properly, as we only had a quick look when we flew in from London and went straight down to Kilkenny. Its a 5 hour trip, with stops in a few places along the way - there are so many picturesque towns and villages on The Burren, all full of charm and character.... its the kind of place you could just stay for weeks and spend your time exploring. Anyway the trip was good, Reagan and I slept for a lot of it and we rolled into Dublin just after 2pm. Its big! We grabbed a cab from the bus station over to Avalon House, which is ... read more

Ireland -Doolin, Aran Islands & Cliffs of Moher Monday 24th & Tuesday 25th March Doolin is set right on the west coast of Ireland and right near both the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. It’s a great spot to stay - not only is it beaufitul countryside, but its close to a lot of things to see and do. The landscape is entitrely different from Killarney but equally lovely. Its more open, rugged and farm-like, yet the mountains and the coast line are right there also. The villages are not so far apart, Liscannor is only about 9km away, this is a sweet little town set on the river/ocean(?) and they are famous for the gorgeous Liscannor stone with which so many Irish houses and walls are made from. We are staying at Doolins ... read more

Ireland - Killarney to Doolin Saturday 22nd - Sunday 23rd March (Easter Sunday) Woke feeling very refreshed after a great night out at Dannys Irish Music Pub, which is right across the road from Neptunes. The pub is really typical Irish and the food was delicious, the service excellent and the atmosphere cosy. We took our time over dinner and sat and talked and laughed and it was one of the best nights we’ve had so far, just being together and having fun. We went walking around town after dinner then off to bed. Saturday morning now, and on todays agenda is Muckross House which is about 6km from the Killarney town centre. We had to move rooms though (because I’d booked extra days pretty late) which was a bit of a bitch, from our double ... read more

Ireland - Killarney Tuesday 18th March - Friday 21st March (Good Friday) Well, Killarney won our hearts about 10 minutes after we arrived. We had booked to stay here for 2 days, but within an hour I had cancelled our next stop and booked 5 days here. Killarney is wonderful, I absolutely love it. It’s now Easter, at 9pm Good Friday night, and I’m sitting in bed with Reagan fast asleep beside me while I update my diary. We are staying at Neptune’s Hostel which is right in the centre of town - definitely stay here (if you are ok with basic hostel accommodation) as its great. There are so many people staying here, from Canadians to Spaniards, Germans to Chinese. Everyone chats and sits around the communal areas - huge kitchen, lounge room with cable ... read more

Ireland - Cork & Blarney Tuesday 18th March Reagan woke up during the night with a temperature so I gave her some panadol and sat up with her for a while, although she dropped back off to sleep pretty quickly and slept through the night with no problem. I woke up about 4:30am and couldn’t get back to sleep so mucked around uploading photos and writing my diary until about 6am, then Reagan woke up and climbed into bed with me for a snuggle and to “make spoons” as she calls it, and next thing I knew it was 8:30am. I woke feeling refreshed but Reag was very sleepy and grumpy until she got out of bed and came down to breaky then she perked right up. We headed out for a walk then went and ... read more

Ireland - Kilkenny to Cork Monday 17th March We awoke to another cold morning, but no rain. The sun was shining although it was still bitterly cold outside so we rugged up. Breakfast at Rosquil House was great - these Irish B&B’s certainly know how to do things. The lady who runs it is a doll, she’s great. Our train to Cork wasn’t until 2:00pm so we just wandered around town and checked out the sights, and watched them setup for the St Patricks Day Parade which was taking place at 3:30. We were sad to miss to it, but the next train after ours would have left us getting into Cork at about 9pm which was too late for Reag. It’s funny, but we seem to celebrate St Pats Day more in Australia than they ... read more
