Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you’ve never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground... -Anonymous

9 semesters down, 1 to go!! (Thank God) I have just successfully completed my 9th semester and am just 5 short months away from finally being a college graduate!! It's about time!!! Must to my surprise, this semester was probably the busiest one of my life thus far, which was a shock, seeing as since it's my 5th year, I really thought this would be a blow off year. Unfortunately, I was wrong... and spent most of my semester running around trying to juggle multiple classes and working 30 hours a week. But, like I said, only ONE MORE SEMESTER to go!! Life after Australia isn't as terrible as I had been expecting after spending a year there. But I think that as time continues to move on, I miss it more and more. Alot of ... read more

Hello from another amazing country in the world: Canada!! Just about 5 short weeks after returning from a year in Australia, I'm back to being an international traveler!! So here I am in British Columbia, Canada!! The weather has been unseasonably hot (in the 90s), which makes it hard to do any intense hiking or outdoor activity! The flight from Chicago was only about 4 hours and I arrived in Vancouver around 10am on Monday. My mom and I spent the day walking around farmers markets, parks, and laying on the beach in the hot, hot sun. We ate at a restaurant called Crave and had a delicious glass of white wine and a poutine, which apparently is a Canadian favorite. The poutine was french fries cooked in truffle oil, sprinkled with fresh parmesean cheese, then ... read more

HOLY COW.... I'M LEAVING IN THREE DAYS!!!!! I've never truly understood the term 'bittersweet' until these past few weeks. Saying goodbye to these amazing people that I've become friends with over the past year has been way more difficult and depressing than I could have imagined. But on a happier more strange note... here is a story from last night: Last night my roommate Winston and I were on our way to the grocery store and stopped in the middle of an intersection, waiting to turn right... and the traffic that was coming towards us was moving at a semi-slow place... well, I look to my right because I notice something moving... and I look again and it's a friggen SHEEP running through the streets of the city!!! (Yes, you read that right... a farm animal ... read more

For the past 2 or 3 weeks my life has consisted of working on and presenting 2 presentations, and researching and writing a 17 page essay on Nixon's foreign policy towards Chile in the 1970s. Therefore, my life has been boring and I haven't updated about my days/nights at the library and on the computer. Last week I did go out one night with my friends from school for Matt's birthday. He's my old neighbor from last semester (guy from Canada), and it was really fun. I am going to a BBQ at their place tomorrow night, should be a good time. Otherwise, on Sunday I will return to having no life! In the next 3 weeks I have 2 really important essays due: a 12 page & a 10 page. And right after that I ... read more

Man, mid-semester break FLEW by! I don't know how 17 days can pass so quickly, it's ridiculous!! I got back from Melbourne on Wednesday in the early afternoon, took a nice long nap, then went to my favorite restaurant in Sydney with my friend Rob from class, a tapas place called Firefly. It's AMAZING and it's right on the harbour with the harbour bridge in view! So pretty! I think Thursday was a lazy day... I'm pretty sure I just laid around and didn't shower. Friday I went up to Macquarie (high five to me for doing this) and went to the library to do some work. I better get extra points for going to the library during my break!! After that I came home and crawled into bed... and shortly after my friend Dennis from ... read more

Ahhh, Melbourne!!! First off, let me say it was freezing!!! Obviously I have been acclimatized because it was probably 60 degrees during the day and 40s at night... but I was dying!! And I definitely did not bring enough warm clothes, so I wore the same sweater basically every day, hahaha. Overall, it was a really nice, fun, relaxing trip and I didn't spend much money, thank God. So my trip started at 9am on a Wednesday morning (April 15th) and began with a 13 hours greyhound bus ride! It was the cheapest way so I figured what the heck, why not!? So, as I'm waiting for the bus, I see all these hot, European men with guitars and I was like "OMGGG, I'm finally gonna get lucky on public transportation and sit next to someone ... read more

Happy Belated Easter! Mid-semester break has begun and the past 5 days have FLOWN by, I can't believe it! Thursday was my last day of classes for 17 whole days! So I went home and started to put on my sweats for a night in front of the tv when my friend Winston from class called me and wanted to know if I wanted to go out for some drinks. Well, it was kind of cool outside so I knew I had to wear jeans but didn't have any cute ones... except one pair that I haven't been able to fit into since I got here. But, desperate times call for desperate measures... so I SOMEHOW got these jeans up and zipped, and spent the rest of the night sucking it in and realizing I needed ... read more

So far, minus a few days of rain, Autumn weather in Sydney has been absolutely perfect!! Mostly sunny and around 70 degrees truly makes for a perfect day to walk around the city and be outside. It's also nice that the humidity has dropped so I don't look like a sweaty monster by the time I get to class or work, haha. My weekend flew by, as usual. Friday night was my friend Kristian's (guy I met in Cairns in September... look back at my older entries) last night in Sydney, so I went to have a drink with him in Kings Cross and had a great time. I got to meet some German girls that he had been hanging out with during his time in Sydney, and they were so fun! It was a really ... read more

Seriously, where does time go!?! It has been flying by, I can't believe it! Not that I'm excited to leave, but I do have a little countdown going, and I'm in the process of changing my ticket if all goes as planned, which means I have only 11 weeks left in this amazing place. Anyways, last week was a lot of fun! Sunday I went to church at Hillsong again, and they have a bus that takes you from the church to the train station, so on the bus I was sitting in front of 2 American guys (obvious from their accents) and so I turned around and started to chat with them (sophomores from Cali/Wisconsin) and they are studying at a business school in Manly (30 min ferry ride from me). Anyways, they were walking ... read more

OH MY GOSH. Today I was walking around The Rocks (after eating a huge pancake breakfast at Pancakes on the Rocks) and I saw the greatest thing I have ever seen in the past 280-some days: a stand in the weekend markets selling.... dun dun dun.... CORN ON THE COB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, you don't even know how excited I was. And even though I was incredibly full of pancakes and bacon, I had to have one. So I did. It was dripping with butter and was covered in salt and pepper. Simply delicious. And the guy selling it had a 'corn fed' shirt on, so I felt right at home. And as I turned around I saw a fresh-squeezed lemonade stand (which is crazy, because lemonade here is like sprite).... and, although I didn't have any of ... read more
