ack!
Hey Kara, I REALLY hope you don't have malaria!! You should talk to Kari about what drugs you should try to buy before leaving Mali because they don't necessarily have all the right drugs here and you may have to self-medicate if you do have it... Kari has stories to convince you... I hope you feel better soon!!!

homesick
Your photos are wonderful. They make me "homesick" for India. I loved reading your blogs. It brought back so many memories, though I think of India every day. What a rich culture!! Sorry you got sick. Did you figure out what it was from? When I came back from China, I was sick for 2 years. So if you have any lingering intestinal symptoms, go to the doctor. When we got back from India, Annie said she learned the difference between "I want" and "I need" I'm planning to go back next year, or as soon as Max is free to spend some time there. Kevin, did you get to play some tabala? Kara, did you wear any saris or punjabe dresses? I almost got my nose pierced when I was there. Annie and I were on our way to the jeweler who was going to do it, and we decided to wait until we got back to the States. (for sanitation reasons). Of course I still haven't done it but I might (on any whim). I'm so glad you had the opportunity to go there. Did you hear much music? I loved the music. Pop, classical, all of it. I am trying to learn Hindi, but the alphabet is difficult. If I had been there only one more month, I would have started to speak it. I was really starting to pick it up the last week we were there. Oh, you have memories that will last a life time. Hope Kevin gets over his jet lag enough to enjoy his classes. Your sleep schedules will be turned around for a while. Love you both. Sheila

Delhi
I'm enjoying your blog. When you're in Delhi, don't miss Gandhi's ...memorial ?....where his ashes are kept. There's New Delhi and Old Delhi. Be sure to see both. If you can, go outside the city to Fatipur Sikri. You can bargain for a good price from a taxi driver.or stop at a travel agency. It's a wonderful old palace, the site of the original capital and some really cool people. They make their living from giving tours. And it's worth getting a personal guide. It doesn't cost much and they need the money and you might make a friend. The guys selling post cards were college students (very poor) when we were there - so intelligent and gentle. They speak English. It is one of my favorite memories from India. Love you. Sheila

Hey, that's Titus AndroNicus. Knew you'd like something pedagofical from me. The "do" is good, but I was looking for a Marine recruit sorta look. How'd you like some of that big, monumental modern stuff at the Tate Modern. Did you walk the 2000 bridge over to St. Paul's. I loved the underground -- so easy to get anywhere in a jiffy. Your remarks about India so far are very interesting. When I was a boy my father told me that every night in Calcutta a million people simply lay down where they're standing and that's their bedroom. It'll be enlightening to get your perspectives on it all. Mainly, thrive and enjoy the great strangeness. Love, the wizzened pedagogue.
