Our last few weeks have generally been very lazy (as have I) so I thought id leave it a while for this blog. The first island we landed on was not actually an island at all but a peninsula. You couldn't actually get there by land though so to all intents and purposes it was indeed island life. East Railey, near Krabbi boasts the most beautiful beach i have ever been on, and we spent a few days sunbathing, frolicking and generally chilling out. This was only really interrupted by a trip to a salt water lagoon that which was easily the most dangerous thing we've done on this trip to date. Free climbing with only a frayed rope and slippery rocks to help us we ascended about 150ft or so up a cliff, some of ... read more

From Saigon we took the road quite travelled to Cambodia. I call it a road but it was more a bumpy mud track flanked by marshland. After swerving livestock and helmetless motorists for a couple of hundred miles we arrived at a roadblock where Cambodians try to sell us coke and beers with interesting techniques. A blind guy thrusts his head through the window and sings whilst holding out a coca cola in his hand. This is not something greatly received by a hungover, tired and slightly grumpy Marsh who does his best to ignore him. After a similar routine of travel we arrive eventually in the capital Phnom Penh. There we drive though the city and witness some of the most extreme poverty ever. Loads of kids in rags (which would prop look quite cool ... read more

Travel over the last few days has involved various extremes which has seen us leave the comfort and sun of Nha-Trang for the rain and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City. We stayed in Nha Trang for about 5 days of beach bumming fun, and thoroughly lived it up. After the effort it took to get there we settled into a nice routine of lie-ins, sunbathing, beach footy and fine dining. The best day there (and my personal favourite) involved a very leisurely morning on sun loungers, sipping beers, eating mangoes and developing melonomas. After an inexpensive and tasty lunch in a bar full of package tourists (who'd paid through the nose for their holidays; Idiots) I decided to have a go at Wakeboarding. It cost a fairly expensive 16quid but was worth every penny. Like ... read more

Vang Vieng is the party town of Laos. It is built on the bank of the mekong and is essentially just a massive tourist trap. We arrived after a daunting 7hr drive around the mountains of Laos and that night did what was expected of us and 'got on it'. VV is a dirty little town and we decided our stay there would be quite brief. The next morning feeling especially spaced out and hanging out of our arses we decided the best course of action was to rent out 4 massive inner tubes and float down the fast flowing mekong sans lifejackets. This was a thrilling combination of beers, rope-swings and chicks in bikinis which was right up our alley and pretty much what we signed up for. After escaping death in so many ways ... read more

The stretch of the Mea Kong river from the Thai/Laos border to the town of Luang Prabang is in actual fact the longest river in the world. Don't believe me? Travel in 8hr shifts over two days sitting on a wooden bench with only the sound of american tourists to keep you 'entertained' and you soon will... The trips' saving grace was that after 2weeks of speaking to no-one really we finally made some mates. Obviously going around the world you are likely to meet a wide variety of interesting and different people. True to form we shunned these travellers and started chatting with two lads from England who were pretty much the same as us. Horizons expanding rapidly... After the trip we arrive weary and a little annoyed to the town of Luang Prabang. Stepping ... read more

After the night train up from Bangkok we arrived in the city of Chaing Mai. My initial impression of the place was that it was really just a smaller, but equally grubby version of Bangkok. This was confirmed throughout the next few days in which i found that i'd had enough of the pollution and squalor. This city itself is not really a very nice place. Built around a square moat it is a dirty little town that falls down where Bangkok redeems itself as there really isn't anything going on there. Its no where near as vibrant or exciting. (a suitable comparrisson would be to compare Birmingham to London) That said there are some great activities to do in the mountains around the city which we would discover later. After leaving the train station we ... read more

Our last day in a Bangkok was spent taking advantage of everything globalisation has to offer four Twenty-something males: we watched the Charity Shield, had a Full English Fry Up and bedded down in anticipation of our early start the next day. Feeling slightly rushed we took a trip to Bangkok tourist information and enquired about visas for Loas, Vietnam and Cambodia. These were not cheap which irked me somewhat and the darker right-wing element of my mind was inclined to think if this were the other way round we'd probably be given a council house and jobs instead of paying for entry. I banished this thought to the back of my mind, coughed up the 100odd quid and left the shop however. Our visas for 'nam were going to take a few days so we ... read more

Thursday the 10th of August was easily the most eventful day of my life; Hungover at 5:30am i drag myself out of bed and get going to Gatwick, everything going well until we turn on the radio and hear about the terror scare at the Airport. Slightly bewildered and a bit nervous anyway the boys and I wander through Gatwick, Sam's last snippet of advice ringing more prominently in my mind "Don't die. have fun" hmmmm.. Anyway we struggle through the throng of Daily mail readers "This is simply proposterous, its absolute choas" etc etc and are welcomed into the comforting busom of Etihad airways, quite simply the best airline in the world. Cleanest planes, most amazing service ever. We then land in Abu Dhabi, which is the hottest place i've ever been to. Bear in ... read more
