I suppose an apology is in order for anyone I may have offended with my comments about the older tourists in Hoi An. In no way did I mean to imply that all old people are useless, or that I have no respect for elder's. But after re-reading what I wrote it does come off that way. What I wrote was written in haste and anger after witnessing outrageous displays of rudeness and disrespect by a number of older men towards a waitress in a restaurant and it was insulting and a terrible generalization. I'm not an old people hater, I promise. Maybe I was just jealous because they are retired and I have an entire life of work ahead of me? Let's hope karma doesn't kick me too hard in the ass.
hey kiddo Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Sounds like you got the fear up on that mountain, now you're just like Kerouac, congrats. Now I've met more than my share of lesbians and opium eaters, but never one that thought what they were doing was social work. tell me about that.
PS: I took your advice and looked on Daves esl cafe to find a ticket for chiang mai, so now it's just a matter of time. I'm looking forward to seeing you and having you regal me with your lies.
cheers
Wow Travis!! I've just spent the past hour pouring over your entries and I;m blown away. Having been to a few of the places you have described, and being on the cramped bus, paying $50 to get in and $50 to leave the airports, and being part of the craziness which Asia has to offer, I jut am thinking to myself, " How could one have a more amazing travelling experience. " We must have some beers when you get back to korea. Good luck the rest of the way.
Thanks I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has left encouraging comments and who is following along on my trip, even if you are only looking at the pictures. That's all, just thanks. It's good to know that people are interested. Oh, and apologies for any offensive comments I may or may not make...
Fantastic blogs! Hi Travis --
My buddy and I just returned home (California) from extensive travels in Cambodia and Vietnam. Your writing is very poignant for me, and I really look forward to reading your upcoming entries. Best wishes on your amazing bike trip!

good news, dude I just spoke with The Mayor, and seeing how things are going well on the trip, He's offering amnesty.
Anyways, I enjoyed reading about your exploits in the mud and bustle.
But, to hell with the boat from China, you've been at the pool a few times, swim here.
We'll meet you at the Incheon harbor, hit the casino, leave our drinks on the table and call it a day.
hey yeah i cant believe after all those years with cigarettes your still able to bike across countries, who knows maybe smokes are the key to good shape.

It only gets worse The road from Poipet to Siem Reap is a real joy. I hope you're surviving it. Just find some kids to clean your bike and do your laundry afterwards.
And thanks for recommending my blog.
shameless censorship Travis you've been in Bangkok for four or five days and this is all you tell your readers. What inquiring minds want to know is how many ping-pong shows and lesbian cabarets have you taken in, how many underaged shims have fallen in love with you, have you been able to piece together you drunken antics from the night before yet, and is that brain damage permanent or not? Instead we get 3rd rate Kerouac with a feel good ending. Please, that's not like you at all. Certainly not in that den of derranged temptation (and just remember I was with you last time around so I know firsthand what your sick mind is capable of). I was half expecting you to say that pooh bear was god or something. Believe me now is not the time for you to abandon irony and sarcasm, not when you need them most.
By the way you should rent a boat in Aluthaya to take you around the island, its very reminiscent of "Apocalypse Now".
Be safe :)
The Dalai Lama says that all people should be sure to spend time alone each day for reflection. Teaching English in Korea for a year and a half gave me plenty time for reflection, and too much time to dream. I spent hours scouring my atlas and conjuring up schemes to conquer the world. Volunteer work in Chile? Find religion in India? Sail the ocean blue? Hitchhike across Canada? All the questions any sane twenty-four year old will ask himself at some point.
I was still undecided until I stumbled onto the blog of a man who was cycling around the world and it hit my like a bad case o... full info
