Well I have finally made it after four and half months of road travel I am now at the border with latin america and will be taking a flight into Cartagena in Colombia on Valentines Day. I spent my final full day here in Panama City by going to visit the world famous canal and a few other monuments and parks and zoos around the city which is surpisingly more tourist friendly than the other central american capitals I have visited so far in the seven other central american countries. night draws in over this pacific border beach village resort
Decided to go and relax for a few days on the atlantic coast in Nicaragua so I am heading to the coast and to a place called San Juan Del Sur which is on the border with Costa Rica with a new found love Maria Olga lara Rojas. Scariest moment of my trip so far when I catch the bus from Granada to Rivas and the conductor type guy charges me two fares for putting my rucksack on the top of the minivan. I found out that noone else on the bus pays for this and after challenging him as I [View Full Entry]

I really like this city compared to the colonial city of Antigua in Guatemala which is very similar in size and outlook with volcanoes close by & small low level colonial buildings based on a grid formation with cobbled streets, horse drawn carriages and a similar number of tourist hotels and restaurants and bars close by. however, the major single difference here is the fact that the people speak almost no english and endeavour to converse in spanish with the foreigners or extraneros when you make an effort to speak it unlike Guatemala. The city has a nice feel to it [View Full Entry]

Volcan Masaya steaming crater

selection of pictures from the national park in Nicaragua famous for active volcanoes and extinct craters
What a brilliant day ! This place has one of the most fascinating and beautiful andscapes that I have seen so far on my travels in central america. A national park with around two volcanoes and five craters and amazing bella vistas or good views of the surrounding area including laguna de apoyo, lake nicaragua and the surrounding pueblos. This is totally different to the volcanoes I have visited in Guatemala because this was actually an opportunity to look inside an active crater with billowing smoke and steam. Along with my trips to south africa and cuba this place has truly [View Full Entry]

Met up with a couple of english guys from huddersfield who were spending a month travelling through central america and we decided to go see one of the fresh water lakes about 45 minutes from Granada where a lot of well to do Nicos & Nicas have their holiday homes. The taxi driver was great but spoke very little english so I had to act as translator for most of the day because the english lads spanish was so poor.anyway.....great day was had by all....the water was hardly salty at all and really welcome in the heat of 32 to 34 [View Full Entry]

I am waiting here to catch a TICA bus down to the capital of the next country of my travels NICARAGUA so I decide to pass the time by visiting one of the local parks here very high up in the mountains. I have found out it is so expensive to fly to latin america from here that it is better to take the buses all the way down to panama and try and get a cheap flight there ! I visit a variety of local parks during my days to occupy the time which provide really good views of this [View Full Entry]
