the relaxing beaches of the cove that forms this fishermans village, backed by lush green mountains
spending a week recuperating on the beaches about 3 hours south of rio before i head there shortly after my exhausting time on the amazon. these are the perfect sort of beaches to relax and the sort of place where you could quite easily sunbathe without any clothes and not see any people all day. It is also a lot more relaxing than the beaches of Rio because you do not have annoying people coming up to you every five minutes and trying to sell all the usual tacky things. The place has really natural surroundings because there are no [View Full Entry]

view from the balcony of the flat I shared in the city of 17 million people with my brasilian friends
Well talk about big cities because I have been to New York, Mexico City, Bangkok, Bogota, Medellin, Miami, Detroit, Atlanta and several in Europe but this place is absolutely huge and it must rank up there with Tokyo because there are an estimated 17 million people in the ´Greater Sao Paulo´ area according to the lonely planet bible which does actually have inforamtion and facts and prices four years old even though I purchased it in Costa Rica early this year. Oh and another thing about those books which I have two of is that it is always recommended to [View Full Entry]

one of the snakes that the institute is famous for here in brasil which has been around for around 90 years providing snake serum to citizens
there are just too many species of snakes in Brasil South America » Brazil » São Paulo By Juanes April 17th 2007 Jason Burnettday out at the Butanta snake farm in the north of the city to see this world famous institute with lots of antidotes and cures for all the scorpions, spiders and snakes that inhabit most parts of brasil. the only disappointing factor is that it takes most of the day to get there and back to see the place because this is such a massive city and getting around also involves combating the usual problems of big cities like traffic congestion [View Full Entry]

Palacio Nacional in Distrito Federal
the headquarters of the government here in Brasilia is a very modern affair
Well there is no stranger capital city in the world that i have been to than the one that is tha capital of Brasil, with its aeroplane inspired design and difficulty in getting around also. Most of the buildings do not look more than twenty years old and the city just rises out of the desert as one approaches it by land or air. In a little way it kind of reminds be of Birmingham combined with bits of Liverpool for the architecture in england with the all the high rises around brum & spaghetti junction bearing a resemblance also. four nites and five days on this not so luxury slow boat to take me from colombia much deeper into brasil where i can head south to brasilia & rio & sao paulo. After spending almost a week on a small river boat I decide that I have not had my fill of river life. therefore, I book onto a four nite, five day boat trip donwstream to the brasilean port of Manaus where I can definately catch a flight further south to brasil and the beach hopefully for a bit of much needed reset & recuperation. We manage to [View Full Entry]

sun setting on day two of the amazon venture
just returning to our second home on the banks on the amazon after spending half a day searching the waterways and tributaries for the shy river dolphins
The sun sets here are absolutely amazing and every nite the sky over the jungle regularly lights up with a colourful mix of blues, yellows, pinks, orange, black & grey depending on the clearness of the day because it can rain here too like no other place I have experienced in central america. After the group head backs to Leticia in colombia and the combined port of Tabatinga in brasil after an unforgettable five days I am left with a lingering feeling for wanting to see more of the almighty green monster and also experience more of the main waterway [View Full Entry]

Wow this really is it, my ´Sueno Dorado´ or major dream for the english readers of this text. This is why I have endured the numerous vaccinations last year in england and constantly taking the seriously strong larium for fighting malaria for & what I have been looking forward to most in my travels of latin america so far - the amazon and all that it has to offer. I get quite lucky when I arrive from my flight from Bogota into the Colombian side of the amazonia which is Leticia and I meet the two australians greg & josie, [View Full Entry]
