Again we had to leave a city we had become comfortable in, so we bused to Bariloche. The bus left Mendoza at 8 pm and we got to Bariloche the next day at 1 PM. We are staying at a hostel run by a New Zealander - 41 below. It is a great place and again we are becoming comfortable. It is very pleasantly cool, nice to sleep with a blanket on and a cool breeze coming in the window. While walking around it is too hot to have a jacket on and too cold to not. This is like Queenstown [View Full Entry]

Moving on

South America » Argentina » Mendoza
We became very comfortable in Buenos Aires, it is a really lovely city. Could have stayed out our time there easily. We decided to move on to Mendoza because it would be cooler closer to the mountains. What a mistake! Our first experience with long bus trips. We managed to buy tickets at a bus stop with 224 different offices selling tickets to all over the place. Then we managed to pack everything into the pack and get to the station on time in rush hour traffic and find the right bus out of 75 different bus bays. This was bigger [View Full Entry]

The Hostel we are staying at managed to get tickets for a Boca game, in La Boca for 10 of the residents. This was an experience we will never forget as long as we live. It cost us 100 peso each and that was quite a bit more than the usual ticket price but included was the bus and guides to help us. 180 visitors to Buenos Aires joined the melee. As we got closer to the grounds, men were selling Bocca flags and things at the traffic lights. All the traffic was going in that direction with people in blue [View Full Entry]

Since our last up date we have continued to explore this city. Last Sunday after we did the update we were walking home from a meal and came across loud drumming, whistle blowing and singing. We could hear it from well away from where the action was and so we followed the music. We came across some closed off streets and crowds of people watching some dancing and singing. The dancers were throwing their feet up around their ears all geared up in white outfits with small mirrors and beads sewn over their costumes, a cross between Morris dancers and those [View Full Entry]

We've been everywhere man. We are finding our way around this city of 14 million, or we eventually find our way. We went by subway to Palermo, a neighbourhood of flash apartments, shops, we haven't bought much because we're a bit nervous about going into shops and showing off our ignorance. We've been to 'Plaza del Congreso' that has the congress building and the park has a fenced off area for dogs. I thought it was a Doggy Day Care, but it is an area that the dog walkers let the dogs off for a bit of a run around and [View Full Entry]

Another day in Argentina. We have had a couple of warm rain showers but usually very hot. We are told that Buenos Aires is empty of people because they are all off on their holidays. It seems very packed to us and we think we may have come here at the right time. Language school is really hard and we are thinking I will have to do another course one on one because we are just not getting it. Although everyone local is very patient with us. Today we are learning to read the news paper - hopeless for Paul, probably [View Full Entry]

We left Auckland yesterday and started to feel we had made a huge error in judgment when we heard everyone in the que and couldn't understand one word. The flight was good, but very hot. It was only cool at take off and landing. The on board entertainment was not working but it was good anyway, the food was nice, but most was labeled 'made in Australia' which stuck in the gullet a bit. Learn't some spanish - leche and aqua so it was good. We got through customs OK, sent through with all the old people, then lined up for [View Full Entry]
