海南。Hainan The trip started by us waking up at 5 in the morning because it would take 2 hours to get to the airport. But still there was time for McDonalds breakfast. At the airport everything was made super simple by the tour guides who took care of everything. When we arrived in Hainan it was raining but still plenty hot. There we met our tour leader, he later became known as “the touch man”, such a touchy man, whenever he talked to us he always had to be touching someone, turned into quite a fun game. On the bus we had the first of many many games of Uno and at our first stop I was finally able to buy a swim suit which had been such a mission for the last week. Unfortunately swimsuits ... read more

Life continues as normal in china . . . After being a little sick I’m now all better again. Last week one morning before work I went to the Baomo Gardens, which were pretty cool and had a bunch of old things, but most exciting was the fish. So many many fish. It was so much of a garden as it was lots of nice buildings and bridges but still very cool. Every night quite late, a truck comes and drops a big load of rocks and then every morning (for the last 2 weeks) a digger loads the rocks back onto the truck and the truck drives away. It’s very amusing but still I wish they wouldn’t do it so late and so early. It is one of the many things we don’t understand here. ... read more

我们去了丽江。We went to Lijiang. Getting to the train station was pretty exciting in itself, they were already preparing for the huge crowds of when millions of people leave the city for spring festival (lantern festival) over only a couple of days. Hopefully I wont be travelling then. Getting into the train I think is most I will ever feel like Harry Potter, it was great going into our little compartment where we would spend the next 25 hours. The beds we chose were soft sleepers, but really it’s the same as any Chinese bed so very hard, but still we had the privacy and nobody joined us in our compartment, which was great. Almost as soon as I got on I fell asleep because it was so comfortable and easy on the train, plus I ... read more

Christmas Party I haven’t done any updating in awhile so I’ll do it all now. If I can remember. Christmas was a heap of fun, not so much the Christmas day, as it was just another normal day at work, but a few days before Christmas we had the Christmas party. Heaps of fun, but quite embarrassing, they made us sing Chinese songs. Also it was my turn to be Santa Claus, not something I expected myself to be doing in China, I was pretty impressed at how well everyone got into the whole Christmas celebration thing. For Christmas evening we felt we (the westerners) deserved some kind of proper celebration so we went into the big city where we hoped to find an English bar, one of our students had her driver pick us up ... read more

Christmas in office It’s getting quite festive here but still not the same as home, decorations are going up including a Christmas tree. The party is tomorrow, and we still have a whole lot of planning to do. So far today I have spent the whole time downloading Christmas songs (I’m in charge of music), which so far has made me miss home the most, a New Zealand Christmas would be quite nice. Apparently other than doing music and games I will also be filling the role of Santa Claus, which will be quite odd as I am still quite far off a big white beard and the big belly, however I do think I have gained some weight since being here, all the eating out and the amount of eating we do. Anyway since the ... read more

Zhuhai Adventure / Rainy village After work on the Monday we thought it would be nice to catch the underground to a new party of the city to find some dinner, the first place we went turned out to be just factories so we went another stop further, the rain was really coming down at this point and we were in a place called Lijiu village, a really strange place made up completely of alleys with lots of little food places on the corners. It took us ages to find a suitable place to eat and we walked for a long time getting quite lost, we walked through a small food market where they had all sorts of different meats, like turtles and there was even a man cutting up live frogs. Eventually we were to ... read more

Chimelong and Kparty The day started by getting the big scare of having Paris standing over me (I hadn’t heard him come in and he’s quite a scary guy to wake up to) but he had McDonalds breakfast so all was forgiven, a good start to the day. Then quickly get ready and catch the metro one stop away from our station to the Chimelong Paradise are. In the Chimelong area there is the worlds biggest water park, a really big circus and the huge theme park we went to. There were quite a few big roller coasters I was abit apprehensive about so we decided to start with some more sedate rides. The first one we went on got us quite wet. Eventually we went on one with 10 upside-down twists, which made me feel ... read more

No sign of the police last night, the people in the office don’t think it’s an issue at all so were not worried. Yesterday one of the lady bosses gave me a really cool static lamp as an early birthday present, which was really cool. I think birthdays must be quite a big deal here. The office girls are all having a lot of fun with the Christmas decorations and we are still planning the Christmas party, or parties now as we have decided to have one for the younger students and one for the adult students. The internet net is being setup at our house today, so that will make life abit easier, but still there isn’t a whole lot we can do on the internet because of the censorship. This morning I got a ... read more

I'm adding heaps more photos some from the start of the trip I didn't put up before.. over the last few days we have been twice to Kparty, a giant karaoke bar which is 8 stories tall. it is all made up of private rooms each with a a guy kind of like a butler who just gets anything we need. there is a huge free buffet there made up of about 12 different restaurants, like sushi places, places where they make soups with the ingredients you chose, we even tried baby birds (quite difficult to eat). From there we went to a bar where the girl were with knew the owner, so we got taken straight to a VIP section that looked over the rest of the bar. the whole evening was paid as it ... read more
