Peru - From: the scenic way back to Cusco through Chinchero
My family and I just got back from Peru too. I noticed that you also went to the Machu Pichu. Aren't the markets interesting? Definetly not what we were used to. Did you guys stay overnight there? We stayed at the Sumaq Hotel. I heard it is the only 4 star hotel in Peru. If you ever go back it worth it stay there. We booked our vacation through www.peru-inc.com. They really know how to cater their clients. No problems at all. Check them out.

Wow, what a great thing to do Dahna, realise your childhood dream and volunteer at the same time! your butterfly with the blue wings is probably a Morpho - very famous amazonian butterfly. Lucky you. Kinda like seeing a Cairns birdwing (the green one) in Cairns, or the Ulysses (blue one on the pawpaw boxes). XXXClare btw, why is the date stamp on your blog so far ahead??

Beautiful pictures!! - From: Condorito National Park: birthplace of the Andean Condor
The pictures are really beautiful, thanks Dahna and Jono! The grass tufts with tall seed heads look like what is known here as a noxious weed, commonly called pampas grass!! ( I removed seed heads from pampas grass in Vincentia bush a few weeks ago.) I guess the pampas is its natural location; a pittoposporum would be a weed out there. I am VERY glad Dahna did not become a condor condiment! love Mum

Aaah how wonderful to see you all sitting around that table enjoying each other's company and enjoying fine food and drink. Reminds me of when we were all sitting around with you at the same table when we visited you in Vancouver sharing the local fresh salmon and berries. We'll have to a skype video cross to you when we have our Xmas day gather around at the Vincentia table. No that won't work. We don't have internet there and also day is night and night is day for us. So maybe we'll have some big pictures of you both at the table and be thinking of you.

Great to hear about your meeting up - From: At home on an island
Great to hear you've met up with Colin and Julie. That and getting called into work explains the few days without a Travel Blog update. I check it every day. Maybe I'll get an RSS Feed from there when I work out what all that high-tech stuff actually means. Johno looks like a laid-back Ozzy BBQ chef there. Just like a summer arvo on the back deck. It turned so cold here in Oz overnight I'm starting to look forward to spending some time soaking up the Canadian summer. Those earlier ice and snow pics, pretty tho they were, weren't super-endeering me to the climate. Do you get to see Colin and Julie later, or when they come back? Looking forward to seeing you soon.

The Burgess Shale and the pre Cambriam Explosian - From: Coliseum mountain
Hi Dahna and J. Thanks for your stories and photographs : a treat to review. We had lunch with a friend from Vancouver during the week. It co-incided with his Mother's funeral, so a bit weepy, but Vancouver from him sounds as good as from you. Here it's cooling down - the spring suit is required in the ocean now. There has been some surfing, esp at Wairo, but not like those photographs of Martin's on your blog, D. You had one large one, then there were 3 in the 'many pics' collage. Could you post the others please- I'd like to have a good look. It must be of that break near Turos, or at Murramarang? We had an afternoon at J's paternal grandmother , that would be my mother, on Sunday. Richard had to turn 60 and retire from 40 years of working. 60/40 is not a bad ratio, and it gets better from now on. J., on anzac day I got out my Dad's Service record you thoughtfully copied for me, and had a minute's silence. As I was alone all morning, a minute's silence was just one of many. I also gave a thought for Martin, closest of us all to Turkey, and to Romel's North African coast. All the best, David.

Hi Dahns - we have a new computer now and I have been able to journey through your last 6 journals! What great entertainment they are! Some fab pictures and good joles, too. I laughed at the trees/ no trees comparison - goes to the heart of humanity really there are only 2 types of people, tree people and no-tree people. Seems to me too that there must be a lot of sunshine coaches in Vancouver and they are doing a good job because the sun is finally learning how to shine again! Who cares about quals and pay scales - these are just artifacts of mere humanity that are meaningless when they are lined up in front of happiness! Glad you like the job Dahns - sounds like you might capture in learning more than what you will forgo in dollars. We heard a talk recently given by Ian Lowe - President of the Australian Conservation Foundation - an excellent speaker - just the right person to edit the SMH. By the way, when you return to Australia, the SMH will not be the traditional broadsheet size- will be shrunk to somethin smaller (not tabloid though).Love MUM

Hi Dahns - ABC radio does live streaming to the internet. Maybe shoud try to find out more about it to get sport coverage?? On Sundays there is that Program "Macka all over" which is just SO quintessentially Australian. You could get it cause it would be on your Saturday maybe? ALSO ABC radio has somethings in podcasts that you can download at any time. Might be a way to get a bit of a dose of aussie?? Maybe have a look at ABC website? I listened to most of that cricket final on my radio- I find that cricket is even better than meditation music when I am sleepless!!! LOts love to you both - ME

That track around the seawall is 8km? Really? Bjorn and I did that when we first arrived in Vancouver, it's so pretty. I'd love to do it again if you guys would be up for it once it gets warmer :) As for sea kayaking, don't go double! Having your own to kayak is so much more satisfying :) Bjorn and I went sea kayaking last August. I had initially wanted to go to Deep Cove, but someone suggested Bowen Island to me instead (its just a ferry away from Horseshoe bay - which is just a quick bus ride from where you guys are!). It was gorgeous. It seems that the Bowen Island kayaking doesn't get much business, so its quiet, which meant we had the instructor all to ourselves. Totally awesome!

treadmill - From: Hastings Street blues and Lynn Peak highs
Yeah - David Suzuki is 70-something and although he seems outwardly optimistic, surely he must be getting pretty frustrated by how stuck on the treadmill we still all are, particularly the politicians. He is going to be guest editor of the Vancouver Sun for one day this month (April) - that will be very interesting.

You two write well. - From: Hastings Street blues and Lynn Peak highs
Hi J. and D. - thanks for the stories and photographs. Your insights and thoughts on Hawaii make good reading. All that education hasn't gone to nought. Where is David Suzuki now? He must be so disapponited- to have been banging on fo the last 30 years (or more?) and we are all still on that treadmill. Well, not all of us: you two seem to have largely avoided it so far. best wishes, David.

Wow, I love those rock pool photos. Sorry to hear about all the Spam, but yeah. Pacfic Islanders took to it in a big way i think, pig having always been a big part of their diet - Spam is just an easier version I guess.
