Hello All! This entry is from my last vacation to Mahajanga and Marovoay. I thought I would post some pictures for you all to enjoy. I don't know if any of you have my return marked on your calendar, but if you do you know that I am almost in the countdown. Once 2008 rolls around I just have six months left. That's right, I have completed 75% of my service here. My time here has been wonderful and I wouldn't trade it for anything but a taste of home would be nice. Just a taste though. Nothing too exciting happened on this vacation except that we drove half the night back to Tana without headlights. It is sad when I don't consider that exciting. We trailed a car and used there headlights. Here are some ... read more

Hello All. I am back at my site after a very interesting summer. I spent the last two months working in Andringitra National Park. I was teaching the guides and locals English. It was an exciting adventure filled with many interesting stories. I actually taught more there than I do at site which was okay because it made time move a little faster. At the park, my life was considerably different than at site. I didn't have electricity but sometimes the family that I was living with would start up their generator and watch a movie. The highlight of the whole experience was the gorgeous landscape and mountains. I will attach some photos for you all to see. If you want to hear some of the stories I would be happy to email you. Just drop ... read more

I have almost completed my first year of volunteering. I am getting ready to wrap up this last semester at the CEG and Lycee. I will have a summer job teaching guides English at a national park here in Madagascar. I can't publish the name but if you are curious, you can email me. It is a very beautiful park and I am really excited to do something different. I ... read more

Hello All, I have been having fun here in Madagascar. I am enjoying teaching and it is about time for the first exam. I just thought that I would tell you that Thanksgiving will be spent with my friends here in Madagascar. I wish I could be home during the holidays, but that is what I signed up for. I am going to try to attach some photos but I don't know how it will work considering I am on dial up. This travel blog is hard to keep up to date here in Madagascar. When I am back in the states I will post many photos so you can see my two year journey in a nutshell. Talk to you all later. Happy Thanksgiving. Joey... read more

September 10th 2006

Hello All, It is September 10th. The Peace Corps has set up privacy rules, so I have to say that the things mentioned in this journal are my own personal opinions and are not endorsed by the Peace Corps of the United States of America. With that said I just wanted to write that I am still alive. I start school tomorrow. I am a teacher now. Well, I just wanted to update this journal and say why I haven't been keeping it more up to date. I haven't had the time. On September 22,23,and 24, I hope to add some pictures if at all possible. Drop me an email if you have time. Thanks for reading and I hope to update soon. With a lot of love, Joey... read more

Me and my friend Doug are off to another Pearl Jam concert. This will be my 11 time seeing them I think. We left around 1:20:07am----Destination: United Center. It is a long but well worth it drive to see the best live band(IMO). I was not very bright the night before because I got like zero sleep. This meant that I was up a very long time and all of my days were so screwed up after the show. Okay back to the ride: It sucked. We got lost a little in St. Louis, but I think we gained time. We made it up to Naperville, IL. His aunt lives there and she was so kind. She made us breakfast and opened her house up like it was our own. Doug decided to take a little ... read more

February 13th 2006

This was my second trip to Milan. I had been there the previous year. This was the third leg of my reunion with the Latvia gang. First leg=Paris, Second leg=Torino, Third Leg=Milano. The main reason for going to Milano was to visit Michela. I think she is probably the cutest Italian ever(her and Serena are tied I think). At this point in my trip, I knew I had to get back to Paris by the 15 because that was when I flew back to the US. I hadn't bought any travel tickets at this point. I knew I needed to do something because time was running out. Flights were too expensive now. So I decieded with the help of Serena and Adam to take the night train from Milan to Paris. This train ride was very ... read more

This was a continuation of my Paris trip. Me and Serena took a flight from Paris to Torino. Torino is where she goes to university. We had a reunion of first and second semester people from Latvia. People that were at the reunion: Adam, Me, Serena, Stefania, Lena, Anne, Hoimar, Marina, Andrea, and Christoph. The 2006 Winter Games were going on while we were there. The city had been transformed since the last time that I visited. We basically hung out and ate, drank and told stories from Latvia. It was a wonderful reunion. Here are some photos.... read more
