Stripped of your ordinary surroundings, your friends, your daily routines, your refrigerator full of your food, your closet full of your clothes - with all this taken away, you are forced into direct experience. Such direct experience inevitably makes you aware of who it is that is having the experience. That's not always comfortable, but it is always invigorating.

The Settling of Cobwebs for The Mid-Twenties Crisis Traveller. 3-Jan-07 So the travel is over. Or is it? Is it still only the beginning? Aren't we all travellers in a sense? Aren't we all going through the greatest journey of all called life? So some wise old geezer once said I believe. Some of us into adventure sports travel, some of us scenic travel, some tourist, some traveller (the tourist = a check list, the traveller = a blank page ; Tourist Vs Traveller) and the others who sleep on the bus the entire journey. I started these blogs primarily as a way to keep the folks in Oz up-to-date (more or less) on my world travel escapades. But having spent so much time away from Oz, making so many world-living friends who now form up ... read more
Having been back in the Land of Oz for 2 weeks... and having left the country of Mother England the same amount of time minus 2 days ago, I feel compelled to write a blog about the differences I'm seeing in these 2 countries that I equally refer to as home. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE UK, (particularly LONDON) - The London Underground. - TNT Magazine - the free weekly rag specially designed for Antipodeans like me. - The cultural diversity. - The accents. As broad and as miscomprehendable as they are, I still love em. - Ease of travel. Not just to other countries but around the UK. - My friends that I've left there. - So many festivals, not just in London, not just in the UK but also close by in Europe. - ... read more

San Fermin Festival, Pamplona, 2006 I hadn’t planned to start out this way. Still quite substantially wrecked from the previous 2 nights inebriations and sleep deprivation, I boarded the coach in London for the 22 hour journey to Pamplona with a blank mind in more than one sense. However, it seemed the same for many others also so it was more a case of letting the intoxications continue rather than commence. For the next 8 days we, collectively to be known as Bus 4 (it’s a coach not a bus!), are to reach, push and ultimately break the limitations of our minds, our bodies and our souls. Bring It On! Stage 1 of Being Under The Influence: Smart One such soul, who discovered one of her own body’s limitations early on with a count of no ... read more
1 Jun 2006 What's The Time Mr Wolf? To fly home to Australia on my year return ticket or stick it in London with the opportunity for my life? The Middle East Trek has ripped out my travel bug and given it a proper thrashing. I just want to be still, earn some pounds and spend quality time with my worldy friends. Wowsers. Check it.. Dahab. Egypt. The Red Sea. Yesterday I snorkeled the Blue Hole. Last night, or the very wee hours of this morning I climbed Mt Sinai to watch the sunrise. Took over 2 hours to climb up. Then an unintentional (?) challenge from our Bedioun guide when he said he could get down in 12 minutes - I made it in 20. Not bad for someone whose sole exercise regime for the past year has been walking to the metro station. Today, my last day, I did an introductory dive course and if I may use the words of my instructor was 'perfect'. Very very cool. We leave very early tomorrow morning to travel about 17 hours and end up roughly 50km from where we are now because the truck can't fit on the ... read more
