Well it is hard to believe but our little boy is not so little anymore. On the weekend we celebrated Joel's first birthday and we must say it is rather scary at just how fast the year has gone. Joel is amazing and growing up to be a very happy little man. Anna and I took him to the zoo on his actual birthday. I am sure this will be the first of many outings to the zoo as he was fascinated with the animals. Then on Saturday it was madness at home with our friends and families coming over for the big party. It was a great day and Joel was spoilt again. James is more concerned about where we are going to store all his presents! Anna was in her element opening all the ... read more

Well after 6 monhs of winter and hardly any sun in London, and from next month on another winter down in NZ we were seriously looking for some sun and sea before our departure back to NZ. We were lucky enough to be invited to our friends, Jacques & Catherine's wedding in Croatia so we decided to spend a couple of weeks travelling through this beautiful country before arriving in Dubrovnik for the big wedding. So having moved out of our flat and finished up at our work we flew to Croatia ready for some time out and hoping desperately for some sun, we were not dissapointed. We started in the noth of Croatia in Zagreb but that was for a few hours only as we jumped onto a bus to the Plitvice lakes. This is ... read more

Well as our big adventure over this side of the world draws near to a close we have been trying to pack in as much as possible before we leave in May. The reality that we are coming home is starting to sink in so we are now viewing London with a totally different persepective as we realise we probably wont see that land mark, this road, those shops, the parks etc for a while. It has been kind of cool being a tourist in a city we have now lived in for nearly 2 and a half years. This is where Anna would pop up and say that I have always been a tourist but London is just one of the cities where having a camera with you at all times is a must. So ... read more

Well it is not often we come back from a holiday and feel like we could do with another one just to relax. I guess we knew this would be the case with Egypt, certainly not a relaxing holiday but what an amazing experience. Anna and I booked a 10 day tour which saw us travel to Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada, and Dahab. It is winter time in Egypt at the moment but we were glad we did it at this time as temperatures in summer would have been to hot. Most days were 25+ and lots of sunshine so having 10 days away from the English winter was a huge blessing. Anyway here is a quick overview of our travels. Arrived in Cairo on the 2nd of Feb and met up with the rest of the ... read more

Well don't know what we were thinking but we ended up in Berlin for New Years and a beautiful -7 degrees welcomed us on arrival. Yeah the thought of being home by the beach sounded real good at this stage but then again we can do that next year. Berlin had a snow dumping the day before we arrived so we were greeted with snow everywhere. We went straight to our hostel where we relaxed for a while before heading into town for dinner. The city was buzzing for New Years but with the weather so cold it made it hard to be outside so we were back at the hostel by about half 12. The next day it was warmer so we decided to venture into town to do a walking tour that had been ... read more

Well it has always been a boyhood bream of James' to see his beloved Liverpool play at Anfield and this weekend he finally got his dream. But before we headed up on Saturday morning we decided to enjoy the festive atmosphere in London and headed out to enjoy a touch of ice skating. London is great leading up to Christmas with lights and decorations everywhere and being cold it feels like Christmas is actually in the right season. Don't worry, we only tell ourselves that because we are jealous and missing the sun. Anyway it was off to beautiful Sth Kensington where they have set-up an ice rink outside the Natural History Museum and surrounded by Christmas markets. We had a great time pretending to be Torvill and Dean but the form was not great. Still ... read more

Well the day has finally arrived for Jimmy boy to enter the thirties but all is ok because 30 is now the new 20. Well that's what James reckons anyway. The weekend began with a great Christmas dinner with friends on saturday night which included a 3 course meal and a rather large roast. It is not often we get to eat a lovely roast over here so this night was rather special. Then the main event, Sunday the 4th of December and yes I am an old fella now. Had a full on day on Sunday but it was amazing. Had all the calls from the family first thing and then it was off to our local café for brunch where Anna had arranged for all my friends to meet us. Great to have so ... read more

Well they have been expecting snow in London this winter but it came earlier than expected this year after Trafalgar Square was filled with snow for the Red Bull Rail Storm. Snowboarders from 12 countries battled out for the £32,000 prize and it was certainly another great night out in this great city. Good friends of ours, Matt and Lyd's invited us to the event which began with free food and drinks at the Hilton on Trafalgar Square. Lyd's got us media passes so a big thanks goes out to her. There is something extra nice about the food and drink when it is free and it is fair to say we took full advantage of what was on offer. After a nice hour and a half of fine food and drinks we wrapped up in ... read more

Well it was off to Cardiff on Friday night to our home away from home. This weekend was a bit special because not only did we get to see the mighty All Blacks play again but even more special was the chance to see little Jake, John and Kim's first. It is really nice having family so close to us and it does make it easier when we feel a little homesick. Cardiff was certainly rocking by the time we arrived and there was certainly a sea of black in the capial of Wales. it looked like a lot more kiwi's made the trip to Cardiff this year than last and it certainly made for a great weekend. But first things first, and little Jake took the spotlight. Anna was straight in and if she had ... read more

Hi All, Well Anna and I headed off to Geneva for the weeekdn where we were catching up with good friends of ours from NZ. Steve, Sarah, and little Caleb had been travelling through Africa on a mission trip and in between that and heading to America for some training we were able to spend 2 great days with them in the beautiful city of Geneva. Friday night was again a great reminder of having London as a base. Leave work as normal and jumped on a plane at 8pm and 1 hour 15 minutes later we are in Switzerland. Very cool. After a bit of a catch up Friday night we were up nice and early and of course greeted by a gorgeous morning. After a few hors chatting which I think Steve and I ... read more
