Jessie and Mauricio

We are still in Sucre, with Mauricio´s family. We have been having a great time sight seeing and enjoying the great food and celebrations. May 25 is the anniversary celebration of the foundation of Sucre. There have been huge parades in the streets, outdoor concerts and lots of other great activities. Yesterday we went for a ¨Dino Tour¨, Bolivia has great dinosaur tracks that were discovered when a company was excavating some land. They are amazing. The thing is that here in Bolivia you can go right up and touch the tracks. We have lots of cool pictures! In addition, we even found fern fossils and salt deposits that we took as treasures... we could have never done that in the US. We have spent the last two days helping get ready for the big event, Paola´s Wedding. It has been great fun to be able to prepare with Mauricio´s family for the big event. We have made flowers, prepared favors, transformed baskets and helped with the food preparations. Mauricio has several great aunts that are just like my grandmother. They are great fun to be around and love to talk about Bolivia. We will have more to report after the wedding but we are very much enjoying our time in Sucre so far. Family has come from all over Bolivia for the big day. Tomorrow morning all of us ladies will get our hair done at the salon. That´s all for now folks. We will have more travel adventures later. Yesterday we spent our last night in La Paz with Mauricio´s uncle and his family. The greatest adventure of the evening was the unbelievable taxi ride from the travel agency to his uncle´s house! Okay, let´s summarize by saying that it was like a rollercoaster. The driver skillfully drove the wrong way on a one way street, executed an illegal turn and almost killed several people from what I could see from the backseat. Mauricio and his uncle assure me that this is normal driving in La Paz and throughout Bolivia. The entire taxi ride cost 1 dollar! Yup 1 dollar! We even sat in traffic. Hello Everyone! We arrived safely in Bolivia on Sunday morning. Mauricio´s uncle Eddie met us at the airport and even after 20 years they recognized each other. They are such a warm family. We spent the day with them celebrating another uncle´s birthday. We enjoyed the best Saltenas, although Mauricio is commenting that the best Saltenas are in Cochabamba! Well, I guess I will see! Anyway. We had a feast and a tour of La Paz. Life in Bolivia is so different from anything that I have experienced before. In the middle of the city women are cleaning their clothes in the river.
