Myself and Chris decided that a day trip to Savannah would be a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday. I don't recommend this after having done it. We had pleny of time to see everything, however with the driving and seeing everything.. it was just a bit too much that we asked of ourselves. Since myself and Chris had plans to see Savannah for the day, we also decided to see the Lighthouse as well. It was an additional 30 minute drive, but was nice to have another area to see since we were already looking at a daytrip involving 4+ hours of driving each way. (We later decided this wasn't the smartest of day trip decisions.) The lighthouse is set back from the beach, where suprisingly, many were sunbathing this day. January is definately the time to go on a cruise - especially since we realized that there were numerous options for 4 and 5 day cruises for $199! Myself and Chris has planned on taking a cruise at the end of March or early April, but jumped at the chance to get the same cruise for over 1/2 the price! (This entry is a stop on the cruise that is discussed in THIS ENTRY: ) We arrived into Cozumel where we took a (very quick) ferry to Playa Del Carmen. A bus ride later, we arrived at the ruins in Tulum. I think I was expecting to only see a couple buildings, based of images I had seen online, so I was rather suprised at the amount of structures that were present. It's a family tradition... one that began before I was even born when my parents honeymooned in the fun little mountain town. Many years have passed, and here I am 23 years old, and the family still continues to make the yearly drive up into the mountains to celebrate each passing anniversary that finds my parents. Gatlinburg is mostly a tourist town, clinging to the smells of hot chocolate, fudge, and the history of panning for gold, and nearby indian reservations, and the bears who wander around nearby. In North Georgia there is a little Alpine Village called Helen seemingly lost in America, but full of good times - partly because it hosts the popular Oktoberfest festival right in the backyard of many other major cities. Walking down the streets allow for many opportunities to duck your head into Northern European shops, get your fill of fudge and other sweets, and of course digest quite a few wursts! Flying from Los Angeles to Dallas was a fairly short flight, so I was ready to go exploring upon arrival. I immediately noticed just how flat the terrain was... and how few trees there were!
