Hey everyone - yes I'm still alive and loving (almost) every minute!!! So what's been going on? A brief description. Friday 17th Up at 5:30 in the morning to go swimming with whale sharks!!! An incredible experience to swim along side some of the biggest fish in the ocean...completely harmless though so not to worry! Hopefully I got some good pictures while I was snapping away with my underwater camera, or maybe on Phil's since he managed to wind it the wrong way and didnt take any so I had to do it for him!! Duh!! So I guess I'll find [View Full Entry]

Coming back to the centre of Mexico City after almost five months living in Guadalajara and I can barely even remember what I thought of it the first time round. U guess jet lag and culture/language shock didnt exactly help but I'm pretty sure I didnt think much of it! It's quite nice therefore to be able to see it again, still with fresh eyes but this time less blurred y sleepiness and language difficulties. Now reading guidebooks about Mexico City dont exactly help build up one's confidence about staying here - especially considering I'm a young woman and I'm alone. [View Full Entry]

The day begins at 0642 when the alarm first goes off. It's quickly turned back off again and one of us drags ourself out of bed, searches for the keys, goes out, unlocks the gate to the girls' dorm (so that Antonia, the one high school student at the Hogar can leave for school which starts at 7am) knocks on the two dorm doors and shouts 'Buenos Dias' into each one, then blunders back into bed, resetting the alarm for 7 o'clock and goes back to sleep for 15 minutes! At 7 o'clock we both drag ourselves out of bed to [View Full Entry]

After two weeks of being bored, not doing anything due to the lack of kids in the Hogar, we decided to get on and do something interesting!!! We had already been planning to go to Guanajuato for a while as EVERYONE had told us that it is a beautiful city with a lot to do and a great atmosphere. SO...Wednesday morning we packed up our stuff and off we went! Wednesday Four hours on the bus from Guadalajara to Guanajuato brought us to the bus station where we were immediately pounced on by tour guides etc etc because yes, as usual [View Full Entry]

Yes we are still alive and well! The number of Lattitude volunteers here in Mexico is now down from 8 to 4 since some went home last week. Lattitude are still keeping in touch with us really well to make sure we're healthy and give us the latest advice. So far they are still not advising us to go home but of course if we decide it would be better for us then they will support us on that. The other volunteers who have gone home were all working a lot closer to Mexico City where the risk was a lot [View Full Entry]

Hello Again, Thought I'd put some photos up to show you the lighter side of the swine flu! The kids were excited to have face masks, even though they're barely wearing them buuuuuut never mind! Its not so important unless you're out in the street and since they never wash their hands and are permanantly very close together anyway, I dont think they'll really make any difference!! Hey everyone!! Just thought I'd give you a little update on how this whole swine flu thing is going for the country of origin! I hope no-ones worrying about it too much, the situation isnt quite as bad as the UK news seems to be making out. All of the schools in Jalisco state have been closed which means that the children have nothing to do all afternoon. They are all suspended until May 6th so that might mean that a lot of them go back to their houses...if not we're gonna have a lot of extra work to do over [View Full Entry]
