HEADING NORTH FROM ALBANY Our spare week before heading north was spent in the south corner of W.A. After our short time in Albany we headed along the coast road to Denmark which looked so much like the Barossa that we “sort of” felt like we were “home”. The area was at least green as from Perth down it was like a desert and must be worrying to all those people depending on that liquid gold from the sky. We then headed to the Karri Forest just north of Walpole where Jen & I had a wet but enjoyable time taking the tree top walk through this majestic forest. This had been a boyhood dream of mine (since 1st year high school during woodwork classes) to visit this awesome place. Awesome it was, as the trees ... read more

“Robin Hood” strikes. Life in the west has been great in many regards, but it has turned a little bit sour with thieves breaking into our Villa and stealing credit cards , money and a laptop computer. Insurance covered the computer and the NAB still has to come good with the stolen money. To top this off Jen was taking a short break last Friday morning and on visiting the local shopping centre, thieves smashed the drivers window and stole our GPS. Needless to say the insurance company won’t pay out because the item was not nominated…but at least the window was. All that aside, we have decided to continue on with our holiday and will be setting off north on Saturday 17th. We intend calling in to many of the tourist spots along the way ... read more

Rotnest Island Visit Over the Easter weekend we ventured to Rotnest Island with new friends Graham & Ruth McLennan and Cris & Claire (new pommie arrivals) all of which we met at the Perth International. We were all collected at the park at 6.45 a.m. and after collecting others along the way, we ventured to the cruise departure point on the Swan River. Jen in her wisdom thought sea sick tablets may be the order of the day for the crossing, and after taking one each, we felt somewhat “tired” by the time we reached Rotnest. We had a pre-arranged tour and lunch time so we decided to take an underwater tour (in a boat with a glass bottom). The fish etc were extremely interesting but did not see any sharks which sometimes appear for us paying ... read more

Jen & I have travelled to Perth and have now completed five weeks of co. managing the Big4 Perth International Tourist Park. The learning curve has been enormous but we have both put our best foot forward and things are falling into place. The outside work has been enormous as there is 13 acres of park to look after and with the girls at the front looking after a steady stream of visitors...full over Easter and beyond, things have been very trying. With very little rain over this time things are looking surprisingly good. I will post photos on this site to show how great the park is. Stay tuned for more info in the near future when we get the hang of things.... read more

Jen & I started the day at 6.45am and after being collected at the Tourist Park we travelled north with the first stop being a visit to the Cavesham Animal Park. Apperntly some 350,000 people visit the park each year. We saw Koalas and Kangaroos etc and fed some of the animals. Many of the group had a wombat sit on them and this tickled the fancy of many of the overseas visitors. From here we ventured north to the Pinacles after enjoying lunch at Cervantes. On the way we also saw a wind farm with some 20 of the giant fans already erected. A great sight indeed. The journey to Pinnacles was Ok as the coach was quite new. The driver explained how the rock structure came about and was quite interesting. Similar outcrops are ... read more

March 22nd 2006

Our change of direction in life started on the 22nd March when we said our goodbye's to family and friends and headed north to stay with Rachel & Randal Edson at Pt. Augusta. From their we headed west and with marvelous weather we headed for Nundroo to stay on a huge property called Paxton Ag. The owners, Dianne & Brian Smith, are friends of Jen's (and now mine) from way back from the good old Laura days. They are a delightfull couple and after choking down a couple of beers and some wine along with a great meal, we headed for the caravan to enjoy some well earned sleep. The following morning we again headed further west and stayed at Baladonia and ejoyed a meal at the pub. A huge road gang was in town and ... read more
