Hello everyone! Yesterday I decided to explore some more of the French Riviera. I went to a small town called Gourdon which is about 30 km inland and on the top of the highest mountain in the area. You can see all the way back to Antibes and across the sea to Corsica! On my way back, I discovered a popular rock climbing area. Fortunately, there a few places I could get to without any rock climbing equipment so I have some nice pictures. Jeff... read more

Bonjour! As you might know, my parents came to visit 2 weeks ago. These pictures are from our trip to Avignon, Nimes, and Orange which are all near the Rhone river near some very good vineyards. We did some wine tasting and they brought back a few bottles of wine. The area around Avignon has some very well preserved Roman architecture such as the Coliseum in Nimes and the theatre in Orange. Avignon was the home to many Popes over the years and has a breathtaking castle as a result. Finally, we did some wine tasting in Chateauneuf du Pape and in a vineyard nearby. Hope you enjoy the pictures! ... read more

Hello everyone, it's been a while since our last blog. Hayley has gone home, and my parents came to visit 2 weeks ago. See the Avignon blog for those pictures. My parents went to Monaco while they were here so I decided I should go for a day. I only spent 3~4 hours there but I saw the Musee d'Oceanographique and got some nice pictures. Enjoy! ps: the casino has a very strict dress code so I could not play any poker :(... read more

Hello everyone! Last weekend we traveled to Venice and really enjoyed the experience. We spent lots of time exploring the main island as well as many of the smaller islands that can be reached by water bus. Staying in a city built on the water, we never had to worry about cars whizzing past and enjoyed crossing bridges of all sizes and riding on water buses. Venice is a beautiful little city and was buzzing with tourists. We weren't expecting it to be as touristy as it was but we enjoyed exploring many of the narrow streets that were less traveled. We found Venice to be much more touristy than Florence and did not enjoy dining and shopping quite as much. One thing we loved attending when we were in Venice was a concert of works ... read more

Bonjourno! We had lots to write about but then realized that the pictures say it all. We had a fabulous weekend in Florence and enjoyed greats sights, views, food and great wine! We were fortunate to have sunny weather for most of the weekend and more fortunate to have attended three free concerts on Sunday. We heard Bach works performed on the organ, opera in the park and the Chapman University choir from California perform works by Rachmaninoff in a large cathedral just outside our hotel. We found Florence to be a very exciting town with lots to see and lots to do. Almost everyone we encountered spoke English and was very friendly. As you will see by the pictures, there were lots of dogs and cats in Florence and we couldn't help taking a few ... read more

Hi everyone! This weekend Jeff and I spent lots of time exploring Antibes and discovering nearby towns. Last night we went on a long walk through Antibes and I took lots of pictures! The town is so lively at night and all the narrow streets are lit up for people to walk through. Although the town is small, the night life here is very much alive and we feel very safe being out in the evenings. After a good nights rest, Jeff and I took a bus to a nearby town called Villeneuve-Loubet and spent the afternoon exploring. I took some pictures of the town and some of the things that we enjoyed. Before catching the bus home we ordered a bottle of wine at a cute restaurant in town and looked out on the rain. ... read more

Bonjour everyone! Naturally, since I just started work last week, we already have a 5 day long weekend. It's the French way, they say May is all holidays and the rest of the summer everyone is on strike :) So we've been exploring Antibes in our time off. We took a bus down to the Cap d'Antibes, which is the tip of the peninsula, and walked around the rocky shores and got lots of pictures. Yesterday we visited the Museum of Archeology in Antibes. We snapped one picture before being warned by the staff that cameras were not allowed! We spent the rest of our time reading on the beach and enjoying the nice weather. Yesterday we had some amazing mussels at a local restaurant. They were very tasty as long as we didn't examen them ... read more

Hello all! Jeff and I arrived in Antibes two days ago and already have lots of pictures for you as we have been busy exploring the town. We are living in an apartment here with two other guys, Nico and Sylvain, and are enjoying being settled as opposed to living out of a suitcase in a hotel. Antibes is a beautiful little town just outside of Nice. It is made up of narrow cobblestone streets and little stores selling just about everything that you can think of. We have discovered a cute little bakery at the end of our street and have been buying baguettes there as often as we can as we would not fit in here without them. We have also been buying lots of cheese here as there is so much selection and ... read more

Bonjour! This is the end of our stay in Paris :( We had a great time! Yesterday we saw Montmartre (the northern suburb of Paris that houses the Moulin Rouge and the Sacre Couer). It was a beautiful little town, with cobblestone paths and old buildings, but it seemed to be a huge tourist attraction (based on how packed the streets were), which was kind of annoying. It would be nice to come back on a quieter weekend to avoid the crowds. We did see an amazing cemetery in Montmartre. It was basically set up like a little town with criss-crossing streets and little houses for tombstones. Check out our pictures. At night we dined in a café just off the Champs-Elysee. It was a bit expensive, but the food and atmosphere were amazing. Today, we ... read more

May 2nd 2008

Hello all! Today Jeff and I spent our second day in Paris and saw quite a bit. We had our first meal in a cafe (great service and great food), visited the Conciergerie (an old French castle that housed prisoners during the Reign of Terror), climbed the many stairs of Notre Dame to experience the full view of Paris and explored the Pantheon. As we just got back to our hotel and had dinner an hour ago, we will not be able to write very much tonight, but the pictures should explain it all. We also posted a couple videos so enjoy! Hope everyone is well back home in Canada and you will hear from us again soon. p.s. People here respond very positively to us when we tell them we're from Canada and so far ... read more
