Hullo and greetings
it has been many many years - but this picture brings back many fond memories of the warmth and hospitality at Casa Lucie Spragge Buelas. It looks the same - with Lucie, Juan and Carlos in 1993. It would be my most favourite place to stay in Cartagena. Hope you are all well.

We're moving to Querétaro summer of 2013.
Hello Jeff. We will be moving to Querétaro summer of 2013. We will teach ar JFK school. My wife is an elementary teacher and I'm an English Professor. Currently, we are living and teaching in Izmir, Turkey. We would like to be closer to California, USA for family reasons: My wife's mothers health is not good and my mom is getting close to 75 years old. Anyway, after reading your blog and not being able to get "real" answers to our questions from many websites; I thought I would contact you. I have several questions to ask you . The main question I may know already. Are you and you family still living in Mexico or have you moved back the states? When I hear back from you I will give you my list of questions. Thanks for your time and hope to hear from you!

trying to send an email to Karin Herzog of Cartagena and a jewelry designer, assume same person you mentioned
Karin gave me her email but I do not believe it went through and assume that somehow I wrote it down incorrectly. I am a jewelry designer as well and she helped me purchase tagua for my own collection. I would like to reach out to her and say thank you. Can you forward me her email address if you have it. Thanks so much, Jane Zamost

Interested in having your blog on tripping?
Hi! Wow! You have travelled all over! Currently I help coordinate the blog for the social travel site called Tripping.com. It's a site that helps travelers easily, safely connect with locals in over 175 countries. (http://www.tripping.com) Would you be interested in contributing a guest post to our blog? We're most interested in photo essays and destination tips. I was thinking some of your photos from around the globe could make a great photo essay. Or maybe you'd be interested in writing a post like ""Top 5 Things to See/Do in Mongolia."" Here is the link to our guest post guidelines: https://www.tripping.com/blog/guest-post-opportunities/ I look forward to hearing from you! If you have any other ideas for a guest post, or any friends that might be interested in writing, feel free to share. Best, Sarah :) P.S. We have micro communities on Tripping called 'Networks' for members to connect based on shared interests and affiliations. There is a Travel Writers Network you might be interested in: https://www.tripping.com/network/63. Approval is required to join the Network (to make sure everyone is in fact a travel blogger) but I'll make sure you're given access.

Your reflections after 6 months
I truly enjoyed reading your reflections. Having visited with you and Teresa your reflections brought back some really fond memories. I was so worried about you taking your family there for 6 months but discovered these worries were silly after being there with your family.

Thank you :)
Gracias. My family is moving to Queretaro in June, actually my husband is coming in a week, and myself and our 3 sons(11,11,16) will be joining him in June. He has been there alot, but I have not, and was a little scared to move blind so to speak. After reading your blog, I felt better, it is so neat to hear how you are adapting to the culture. I find myself becoming excited, and am hoping that our transition is ok too. I google as much as I can every morning before work, to try to learn, and am trying to learn Spanish before I come so that should help. Just wanted to say thank you again, loved hearing about the schools...was a little worried there. Hope you keep the blog going. Your faithful followers, The Power family :)

LOVED THE BLOG
My husband and I, with 2 adopted Mexican children were house parents for 1 year in 1976 at an orphanage on a small ranch a few miles outside Queretaro. Reading about your experiences made me want to sell our house and move back immediately! We loved living there and in Celaya for 3 years. We traveled to Michoacan several times, and reading about your road trip there brought back so many wonderful memories. Michoacan reminded me of the mountains of Tennessee. We loved Uruapan where we bought a gorgeous little table with handpainted flowers and designs that were laquered after each color. We also loved Patzcuaro and the Island in the lake (as well as the little town of Tzintzuntzan on the way, where we bought a boatload of Mexican pottery and straw Christmas decorations). Maybe when (or if) the housing market goes back up and we can sell our home without taking a great loss, and we'll be able to make the move back to Mexico. (We're retired now and have been dreaming about moving back there.) Thanks so much for the interesting "diary" of your time there. P.S. Although my husband is from a small town near Cynthiana and an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan, we have lived in Cincinnati since our return from Mexico in 1979.

Hola Jeff, I love your story...
Hi, I was researching stuff on the internet and for some reason I saw your blog, I found it fascinating! I live in San Diego with my husband Paul who is from washington state, I moved here 5 years ago, but I was raised in Queretaro, I moved out in 2004. All my family lives there and its so interesting to find someone that says such amazing things about my country and I want to thank you. I almost cried when you described Queretaro and all those places where you and your family were. Maybe because I get homesick every month! I miss Queretaro. I actually lived in Jurica and my dad owns Dr Car (the car repair shop in front of the Universidad del valle de Mexico) in Juriquilla, his name is Fernando Gomez, my sister Ana and my brother Fernando work with my dad, I'm not sure if you ever met them, they all speak english very well...haha...they would have been very helpful. I actually did teach english for few months at the International in 2004, I know Ana very well (the junior high principal) I actually designed her house (I'm an architect). So, anyways, I'm glad you guys had fun in my hometown, its an amazing experience to live in a different country right? tell me about it. I'm also glad that you had a positive experience there and hopefully nothing wrong. I just dont like what the news say about Mexico every day and scare people, half of what they say is a lie. Have a good day...I would like to know how the whole experience ended. Veronica B.

awesome info. we plan to be there too
Your travelblog on your move was the very best info we were able to find in our search for info on living in Queretaro. We are planning our retirement and have looked at several places that we can retire on my husband's megarly retirement benefits. He is forced to retire now due to health issues and on my salary and his benefits we would not be able to survive...we would be able to pay surviving expenses & not medical needs or vise versa. Your pics and other info have clinch it for us except we would like to have an idea of what would be the cost of living for a modest lifestyle ( of course, with modern amenities and 2 bedrooms min. We would greatly appriciate your response. Again, thank you.

Guanajuato
You took some nice pictures of Guanajuato! Glad you had a good time and liked the hotel (we recommend it to people who want to stay in downtown Guanajuato, but not on the Jardin). The narrow street you went down (in the pictures) looks like Carcamanes. The blue building on the right looks like "Casa Azul", a nice, inexpensive B&B. I'm enjoying reading your blog.
