Quebec city is beautiful

Published: July 30th 2008North America » Canada » Quebec

From Val-d'Or we continued on to Mont Tremblant where we camped the night. We had a blast the next day up on the mountain on the luge track. The track twists and turns for almost 2kms as it winds it way down the mountain. We did 3 runs and had a blast racing each other all the way avoiding people and obstacles. A must do! Next we were off to Quebec city arriving late in the evening we stopped at vistitor info and found a hotel and booked a tour for the next day. Our hotel told us where we could find the best breakfast in town "Cosmos"! We got settled in our room changed and headed off on a city bus downtown. We stumbled upon a huge crowd and asked around what was going on. ... read more

Bonjour!!!!!!!!!!

Published: July 29th 2008North America » Canada » Ontario

Bonjour!!! We have arrived in Quebec. Lets back up a few days though first. We left my sister’s comforts of home and headed east into Ontario, spending our first night in Dryden. We took the high road through northern Ontario stopping at Kakabeka Falls just before Thunder Bay. They were spectacular with a scenic hike around the area. The thing most noticeable about Ontario is all the beautiful lakes along the way and then the Great Lakes on top of that. Lake Superior is massive and could easily be mistaken for the ocean. We caught our first glimpse in Thunder Bay. Arriving in Dryden we went canoing on the lake for a short paddle. It was pretty rough and lots of laughs but Alex and I made it back dry and in one piece. We camped ... read more

Alberta and beyond

Published: July 21st 2008North America » Canada » Alberta

As we entered into Alberta we were surrounded by mountains that slowly gave way to foothills and big open fields with canola flowers. Seas of bright yellow spread for miles! Just before that though we stopped at Lake Louise and got the classic shot of us at the lake that was surrounded with more tourists than one could imagine just to look at a blue lake. It was beautiful don't get me wrong. There was snow still in the mountains and a chill of winter still left in the air as the sun shone upon us. I wished I grabbed my sweater from the car. Oh well I toughed it out. Alex did a great shot of the two of us using the arm trick. He is quite the master at it. Drumheller was a blast ... read more

Into the Wild

Published: July 14th 2008North America » Canada » British Columbia » Golden

I finally got out of vancouver late on friday arriving in 100 Mile House later that evening. The canyon was breathtaking to view during my evening drive and super hot in around Lytton even though it was late. Very little traffic as well made it even more enjoyable. It was so sweet seeing Alex at Educo(camp) and all his adventures from the week provided many hours of conversation. Thanks to family we got all Alex's laundry done and made it out on the road by 3:30pm on Sunday. We were sad to leave as we were having such a good time hanging out and visiting. One last thing! In 100 Mile Birch St. was closed down and lined with cars of another vintage. Old school! Check out the pics. Felt good to hit the open ... read more

Well another couple of hours and I am out of here! I am looking forward to seeing Alex tomorrow at Educo. I am sure he will have a million stories to tell about his grand adventures at camp. I can hardly wait to hear them all. Vancouver is a great city on the westcoast of Canada and is our departure point for our summer adventure across Canada. So watch for more blogs and have a great summer. Cheers Jeannie... read more

Convent Living!!!

Published: April 20th 2007Asia » India » Kerala » Angamaly

My journey has brought me to HOME OF HOPE in Kochi where I am living in a convent with nine sisters and about 40 girls as some have left during summer break. I am volunteering for the week of which now I wish was longer. The sisters are fantastic! Full of energy, widom and many fun jokes. I love them. The children have filled my heart and I already want to take them all with me and be their mom and love them to bits. I can't think about leaving it makes me cry even though I miss home so much and can't wait to give all my friends and family a great big hug. I am so lucky to have so many incredible people in my life. Tomorrow we are going as a group to ... read more

Delhi Delights

Published: April 17th 2007Asia » India » National Capital Territory » New Delhi

Where do I begin? Well first off I now have pictures. Lots of them! So this blog will be about them. The one thing I need to remind myself constantly is many things that are considered rude at home are normal here and vice versa. For example picking your nose, staring, urinating anywhere is fine, standing so close in lines you touching, spitting everywhere, budging in line if you do leave a space as to not touch must mean your not really in line. Oh yes and then there was the front page of the newspaper that the title read the "Hug that Shook the Nation" aka hugging is so not what people do here unless your name is Amma" Hugging Mother" In fact the tourist minister that recieved the hug now fears for her ... read more

We have been in Delhi since April 4th and it has been and adventure. We went on a city tour with Panicker Travels and it was great. We saw lots of points of interest in the city. My favorite was the Lotus Temple. We also took a tour to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and yes it is beautiful and probably one of the most visited sites in India. That being said prepare yourself to being mobbed by agressive touts and double standards when it comes to gate fees. Indians pay 20rupees and foriegners pay 750rupees and no I didn't make a typo. I guess if I compare the price to admission costs at home it is alright but still. So back to the touts they don't take no for an answer and keep ... read more

Thunder & Lightening

Published: April 2nd 2007Asia » India » Kerala » Varkala

Last night in Varkala we had the best thunder and lightening storm ever. It lasted for hours with big bolts of lightening and loud cracks of thunder and a very refreshing heavy downpour of rain! For the first time in 3 weeks I have felt cool. Hooray! It has been sweltering hot around 38-40 degrees with the evenings cooling to about 33, Humidity is high as we are right next to the water. So why have we stayed so long you may ask? Well the beach has been a blast with many afternoons spent bodysurfing. It is a very relaxed atmosphere where one can just kick back. Varkala is a definite European getaway spot and we have met people from all over the world. Yesterday we went to visit the local temple which is in ... read more
