| 9th April 2009 Max | Back in my childhood - From: Days 19 and 20, Cyprus and Egypt Somewhere there is a "moving picture" as it was called back then, of my Greatgrandmother and Greatgrandfather on a camel, both in 1930's splendor: she swathed in a hat with veils and skirts whilst holding a parasol, he in a boater, dark jacket, bow tie, and white flannels. They were, because of the quality of the camera and film (Ggrandfather was a friend of Eastman of Eastman Kodak fame so he had a beta version of a movie camera) herky-jerky bouncing along in front of the pyramids and the sphinx. It was probably the mid 1930's. Thanks for the memory....I'll have to locate that film. It's been great to journey with you! Max |
| 7th April 2009 Max | OOOOOOHHH! - From: Days 17 and 18 - Piraeus, Athens and Rhodes Greece I am sitting in green pajamas drinking green tea and turning green with envy. Visiting Athens has been a life long dream: I am living my dream vicariously. Thank you for sharing your photos and comments. I am doing my best to keep John together while you vacation, Lisa. I even cooked last night and plan to "reheat" tonight; it seems I do know where the kitchen is. Keep the blog coming; those of us at home so appreciate it! Max |

I do recommend learning some of the basics of the language as it helps when ordering food and tickets at the train station. Thanks, Jim |

| 1st April 2009 Raegan | - From: Days 12 and 13 - Barcelona and Cruise Departure Day HI Jim and Lisa It's been fun reading about your trip to Spain, my partner and I are going to Europe for 4 weeks in Sept spending 18 days in Spain. How did you find the language issue? We have been taking Spanish classes as some people have told us that not alot of English is spoken in some of the southern cities where we will be visiting - Cordoba, Granada Seville and Toledo. If you can recommend any good tapas bars, restaurants, etc it would be appreciated. Thanks! |

| 30th March 2009 John | Eating your way through the world... - From: Barcelona - Days 10 and 11 Jim, Lisa, I'm really jealous, the food and, of course, the locations, are fabulous. I'm in the hunt for the fixins for the Obama inaugural luncheon for Max's birthday next weekend. Pictures will tell the story... Such fun to follow the travels, thanks. |
| 26th March 2009 Jbrewco | Wait a minute folks! - From: Toledo and Seville - Days 6 and 7 I have to say that the single comment about being "too early for a beer" got more comments than anything else we have posted. For the beer club folks, wait until we talk about how they pour beer here!!! You will be very upset. We hope you are enjoying the blog and we look forward to sharing more with you. We can't put everything in here because there is just too much that happens each day. We will share more when we see each other again. Lisa |
| 25th March 2009 Alan | Whew!! - From: Toledo and Seville - Days 6 and 7 Thanks for the explanation Jim. The world is back on its axis....Happy Vino Tinto!! |
| 25th March 2009 Jbrewco | It is never too early for a beer - From: Toledo and Seville - Days 6 and 7 OK, ok, ok, the museo de jamon has got me a little out of my element. Keep in mind the beer is not what I get at home so there are times when I have to admit it is too early for a light lager! That is when I have a vino tinto (red wine), or a whisky. Still longing for a hoppy beer, next trip I need to bring along a small bottle of hop oil just so I can taste a little of home. Cheers, Jim |
| 25th March 2009 HopHead Jason | "too early for beer"?! - From: Toledo and Seville - Days 6 and 7 Someone has hijacked Jim and Lisa's computer - what's this about "too early for a beer"? Oh wait, later there's a description for how to ferment and distill a drink. Okay, whew, Jim must have been temporarily dicombobulated from all the cured meats and cheeses. It's great fun watching the trip unfold - thanks for sharing you guys! -HopHead Jason |
| 25th March 2009 Alan | Gorgeous Architecture - From: Toledo and Seville - Days 6 and 7 The pictures are breathtaking (even without the walking). Great commentary Lisa; except, I can't get past the "It was too early for a beer so we took a walk" comment. Is Jim OK? |
| 25th March 2009 Pete | Too Early for Beer? - From: Toledo and Seville - Days 6 and 7 Too Early for Beer? Since when? Remember that it's always later in China! |
| 24th March 2009 Jbrewco | Your In! - From: Madrid and Malaga - Days 2, 3, and 4 Hi Nicole, Madrid really needs a good brewery where they use at least some hops in their beers. Most of what we have been drinking is a light lager other than the German style beers at the micro. Not suprisingly there are at least three Irish pubs in Madrid that serve Guinness or Murphy's stout. I have been looking for an import beer store to buy a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale but so far no luck. A good hoppy ale is what I am homesick for. Cheers, Jim |
| 24th March 2009 Nicole Wood | Manager application - From: Madrid and Malaga - Days 2, 3, and 4 You know, you'll need someone to manage that brewery...consider this mine & Woody's formal application! :) |
| 23rd March 2009 Jbrewco | I Like the way you think - From: Madrid and Malaga - Days 2, 3, and 4 Mr. Sherman, your insight to my personal thoughts is uncanny. The problem is there is no way Lisa would be willing to move to Madrid and give up the sunny California lifestyle. I could however open up a micro or two here in Spain and travel once or twice a year to collect my gold doubloons from the profits. The best of both worlds, that is of course if I can get Lisa to manage my budget! |
| 23rd March 2009 Jim Sherman | Doesn't Madrid need another MicroBrewery? - From: Madrid and Malaga - Days 2, 3, and 4 Jim can become the Micro Brewery Beer Mogul of Madrid??? Hell, we'll all come work for him! :D |
| 23rd March 2009 Jbrewco | Adjusting Nicely! - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Pete, we are getting used to the food, drink, different time zone and culture. Ahhhh!!! |
| 23rd March 2009 Jbrewco | Food - oh boy! - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Max, we hope you are feeling better. The food is unbelieveable. We have not had a full meal yet but lots of little dishes all day long. Luckily we are walking and walking and walking so I think we should be losing weight instead of gaining it - we'll see. We will have to post all our pictures on Smug Mug so you and John can see just how many pictures of food Jim has taken. |
| 23rd March 2009 Jbrewco | So far it's great! - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Edward, it has been fantastic so far. Normally we stay in a different place every night but since I had to have all those clothes for the cruise, we needed a central point. We did get a rail pass though so we will see more of Spain. |
| 23rd March 2009 Jbrewco | Budget in Euros or Dollars - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 That was cruel Mike! For now, budget is not something we are not thinking about. We're used to trying to find money where it doesn't exist so the vacation will be fantastic! |
| 23rd March 2009 Pete | Vicarious Traveling! - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Hi, Jim & Lisa We are traveling vicariously through your wonderful travels! Keep the pictures and the notes flowing. We all know the beer will be flowing! Yum! |
| 21st March 2009 Max | - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Are you sure that John and Jim aren't twins separated at birth? John always takes picture of food, too. I thought it was just an idiosyncrisy, now I see that it is an art movement. The apartment looks fabulous. I have caught John's virulent cold, so keep the sunshine coming on the blogs-it may be the only fun I'll have this week-end. |
| 20th March 2009 Edward | Sooo Jealous - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Loved Madrid, wait till you get out in the countryside a bit....its such a pretty country....enjoy!! |
| 20th March 2009 Mike | Fun - From: Day 1 and 2 - March 18 and 19, 2009 Hey - Ok, so you are blogging to rub it in? Sounds like you guys are having a blast already. Stay safe and have fun. Budget will be waiting for you when you come back. |
