On Thursday we arrived at Darwin. We stayed with the Boyle family who used to live in Mount Beauty. We all went out for dinner to an ‘all you can eat’ seafood buffet. I ate dinner and then 15 pieces of watermelon dipped in chocolate followed by one raw oyster. I almost gagged. We busked at the Parap market and checked out the Museum afterwards. We also went to the Leanyer water park as well as the skate park. The water park was massive. There were three water slides. One was blue and it was very wide and you could twist around in it. The second one was yellow and it was fast. And the last one was red and it was pitch black inside and you had to ride in a double tube inside ... read more

In Alice Springs we went to the beanie festival. There were a million beanies. Wow. Wow. I bought one – go the bulldog!. Ash bought one. Mum bought one. And dad didn’t buy one because he said that he already had one. We stayed at Heavitree gap again. This time it was warm. The next day we went to the Alice Springs market. . We did some busking. That night we camped at Karlu Karlu (or Devils Marbles). We think a dingo stole and ate our camera. The next day we stayed at Mataranka springs. The springs were warm. YAY. Entry 14 Sandover/Alice spring We arrived at Commoweal. It was a small town with three hundred people in it. We camped down by a billabong. It was really muddy and our tarps got really skanky. There were lots of brolgas everywhere. The next day we set of down the bumpy dirt road (the Sandover Hwy) and only passed three cars. There were no camping sites so we bush camped. It was really scrubby. We lit a fire and chucked heaps of dead grass on it. We packed up the next morning and went down the road to Alice Springs filling up the diesel tank at Alparra for $2 a litre (the most expensive fuel so far). In Alice Springs, we stayed at a caravan park where you can feed the black footed rock wallabies. They had ... read more

We arrived at Innot springs caravan park where there were pools filled with water from the hot springs. One pool was freezing, one was warm and the other was hot. In the hot one you can press a button and bubbles turn on for 10 minutes. There was an indoor area with a really hot pool , but kids aren’t allowed in it. . After Innot springs the next day we went to Undara lava lodge  were we stayed for 2 nights. We did a tour in the lava tubes, which are big tunnels made by lava 200,000 years ago. There were lots of frogs living in them. Dad and I played to the crowds one night around the campfire. We then headed off to Normanton which is a place that has the Big Barramundi ... read more

We arrived at Cairns at about lunch time. Ash and I wanted to go to the skate park. We found a massive one next the beach – the largest public skate park in Australia. It was during school hours so there were no kids there . Ash and I got stuck in a massive bowl which we eventually got out by pulling ourselves up. After the skate park I stacked just riding along the esplanade footpath. That night we Palm Cove, right beside the beach. We drove to Kuranda, up in the mountains and rainforest. We looked around the markets then went to ‘Birdworld’. I didn’t want to go in but then I did and then I didn’t want to leave. The birds sat on your shoulders and hands and flew all over the place. Ash ... read more

We arrived at mission beach and stayed with Rochelle, Andrew, Liam and Ryan. We went down to the beach and lit a fire. We collected coconuts and tried to smash them open but they were too strong. I pretended to be mum in her cardigan while she went for a run. Dad, Ash and I performed at the Mission Beach school because Rochelle is a teacher there. We saw the BIG cassowary in town and then saw one when we went for a walk. The cassowary is an endangered spieces of large flightless bird. Dad went fishing with Andrew in his boat and saw lots of salt water crocodiles. We left to go camping at Babinda which is a place under a mountain called Mount Bartle Frère which is the tallest mountain in Queensland. We were ... read more

We arrived in Townsville, late on Tuesday night (24th May). We were planning to camp the night but the accommodation was full so we kept driving to Mel and Ersin’s house. We hadn’t had dinner yet so we were starving. Mel’s sister and family were also there. We went down to the Strand in the morning and found a flying fox. Ash and I did a double wammie (two of us together). Mum, Dad and Mel also had a go – so we helped push them. We saw our first red-tailed black cockatoo eating palm nuts high in a tree. One day we took the ferry to Magnetic island. Mel works for the ferry company Fantasea so we got on for free. We went for a walk to the old Australian army forts and saw a ... read more

On Saturday the 21st of May we arrived at Ball Bay, just north of Mackay. The beach looked black but it was actually the shadow coming off little balls of sand made by little crabs. We stayed at a council campsite for twenty bucks. Ash and I swung on the vines coming off the massive trees. The next day we went to see dad’s old school friend Greg at his place in Airlie beach. Ash and I went to the skate park which wasn’t that good because there were skateboarders who stank like @#$%. !!! We stayed at a caravan park in Airlie beach. It had a pool and a half court tennis area. On Monday we went up Mount Rooper. Mum and I ran, Dad, Ash and Greg walked. When I got back I got ... read more

On Tuesday the 17th of May we arrived in Carnarvon Gorge National park. We stayed just outside the park at a caravan park called Takarakka . We did a walk the next day half the way down the gorge. There was a river going down the gorge and the track crossed over the river again and again and again. There were little side walks along the way, for example ‘the moss gardens’ which was a little waterfall with lots of moss growing around it. ‘The ampitheatre’ was a big cave. ‘The art gallery’ was an ancient aboriginal art site and ‘Wards canyon’ was a waterfall that you could walk around. In the end we walked 15km. On Thursday we did another walk to Biloola bluff which goes up onto the 200m cliff tops. There were two ... read more

Entry 6 – Sunshine Coast We left Boonah and we drove to the sunshine coast via Mount Tambourine and Movieworld. We stayed at dad’s friends Marcel, Rachel and Alex’s house. We got there late (we got caught in Brisbane Friday escape traffic), so we had to sleep in the spare room under the house instead of setting up the camper. We went to the local farmers market in Yandina. We also went to the massive Eumundi market and then to the beach at Coolum. This is the area were they grow lots of ginger. The next day we drove to Bunya national park. It got very cold very quickly so we went to bed at seven o’clock. It was so cold I hardly slept. In the morning Dad, Ash and I went for a walk. In ... read more
