It takes at least 2-3 days to get fully adjusted to the time difference between the US and south Asia. I woke up way too early the first morning and used the time to take a driving tour of the city. One of the sites we saw was a fishing village right on the beach where they had tall racks full of drying fish. A lot of Bombay reminded me of a post on deputy-dog.com showing the contrasting pictures between rich and poor. You can read that here. (I really recommend this blog - it's one of the best I've ever read - deputy-dog.com) I later tried to take pictures of this myself on the flight out of Bombay to Delhi. So Bombay is right on the water and the beach is a popular tourist destinations ... read more

This is the beginning of the blog for my most recent trip - Bombay, Delhi, Amritsar, Batala, and Chandigarh. We took the direct flight from Newark, New Jersey to Bombay, India. Arriving at Newark we found out the gate had changed which ended up being a good thing since the new gate was right next to the one we came out of. It was quite obvious which gate it was too because the "line" to board looked like this. The plane was having some electrical problems with reading lights so we got delayed. Newark airport, although crowded, was quite nice. I caught a glimpse of the NYC skyline on the way in and it was visible from the airport as well. Pretty cool to see the Statue of Liberty, I'll hopefully see it up close sometime. ... read more

I could easily buy it at the Underground station for an investment of only 3 quid (I'm having a real hard time making a pound symbol on my laptop). The Oyster card comes in a little black wallet and is nice because you can easily add value to it at the machines located in every station. Also, you don't have to take it out of the wallet as it works by being in close proximity to the sensor so simply placing it above the sensor will work. I think over the course of the next week and a half I will have saved about 3 pounds or so. When you no longer ... read more

I managed to find a free couple hours to venture into central London. I got off at St. Paul's on the Central Line and exited towards Newgate St. A map was located right outside of the station and was helpful for me to get my bearings. I walked along Newgate and passed the London Stock Exchange on the left. Soon I came upon an alley with a view of St. Paul's Cathedral. There was a nice square and the financial district was a nice area but unfortunately I didn't have more time to explore. Not far from where I was is the Old Bailey and the Museum of London is a short walk away so hopefully I will get to explore this area some more. ... read more
