My First Trip to Asia to visit Christine in Vietnam (December of 2005). The "blogs" are actually emails I wrote to my mom, who then forwarded them to so many people.

It was a difficult decision to decide to spend Christmas away from home. I spoke to my grandmother about it, who was my kindred spirit. She was failing in health, and we assumed it would be her last Christmas with us. I asked her if she was okay with me leaving. She said, "Oh honey...Don't stay on account of me. But I have one question: Why the hell do you want to go to Vietnam?"

Grandma and mom both enjoyed reading about my adventures and getting a phone call from Vietnam on Christmas Morning. For them, it was a nice, quiet Christmas together. Turns out, I was correct about it being my Grandma's last Christmas...But I had no idea it would also be my mom's.
