Small village, Bahir Dar After leaving Lalibela we headed towards a large town called Bahir dar which is located on lake Tana. We decended down the mountainside to do a nights stopover in a small village. The village was started by a man who wanted to create an equal community where all profits were shared, woman and men shared jobs and children were all given the opporunity to study. As we came into the village the first thing that struck me was that no one was asking for anything or hassling us, the second thing that struck me was another case of the stomach bug. I had the pleasure of vomiting my guts up all night with the luxury of a flat sleeping mat on top of several rocks while locals laughed at the sick whitey. ... read more

Jinja After watching a few people do the bungy jump we decided to pay and head up to the platform. The bungee instructor was hung over from the night before which already gave us alot of confidence for our upcoming jump. I did the first jump backwards and for the second we had a harness where you could get a run up and jump, the third i decided to do a front flip off the platform where i got arm caught in the cord on the bounce up and got a nice rope burn. Nakuru After a short drive down south we stopped over in a mountainous area near Nakuru where Benne, Jan and me went off to do the cook shopping for the night. We bought half a lamb for around $10 and cooked it ... read more

Kabale We got into Kabale after a 9 hour drive across about 1 million speed bumps. For some reason in Uganda they feel the need to put three sets of smaller speed bumps before you hit the big one instead of just one sign warning you that there is one ahead, so half the trip was spent in mid air waiting for a painful back wrenching landing. Kabale itself looked like something out of an old western, with dusty streets and a bank which seemed more like a place where you would get into a quick draw duel rather than withdraw money from your account. We setup our mats and sleeping bags inside what looked like an abandoned school building in a hotel called the little litz. Our night was spent at a reggae bar around ... read more

Zimbabwe I was surprised to see that Zimbabwe was atually very frindley towards the tourists and had fairly decent infrastructure in certain areas. Everywhere we went you would always get people waving and whistling at you, to the extent that your arm actually became tired. We headed towards Harare (the capital) where we had to bush camp before getting there. We got bogged after the first turn off but eventually managed to get the truck out and camp a bit further down the road. We capped the night off with a bit of drinking and forming a delta force recon group to find firewood, in our drunkeness waking everyone in the campsite up. The next day we entered Harare to do a bit of shopping for the cook group and get some local currency which now ... read more

Started the Trip at 7.30am from the hostel, we all travelled on a truck provided by a different tour group so we could get to our truck which was on the border of Namibia and South Africa. The trip took about 12 hours and the truck was bumpy as hell but we eventually got to the camp site which was just over the border on the orange river. We got a speech by our driver Farron who is also aussie and divided ourselves into cook and cleaning groups as well as truck security. Had some beers with everyone which gave us a chance to get to meet the 22 others travelling on our truck. We got a guided tour of our truck which is huge and even has enough space with 22 people packed into it. ... read more

Cape Town Started my night meeting two English guys at my Hostel and went on a massive night out to a place called Long Street which is just down the road from the hostel. After a night out partying we decided it was a good idea to head to a club called the marvel which was actually a black club and we were the only white guys in there, we did a quick lap of the club and left to be taken by a taxi on a tour of cape towns garages because he didn't know where he was going. So we got dropped straight out of the club we started at and decided to walk to the hostel. Waking up in the morning i realized how big the mountains around Cape Town actually were, it ... read more
