First a couple of photos from the Pinnacles, which was mentioned in the last post, they some strange rocks in a desert area. Drove down to Perth, stopping in the Swan Valley to sample some wine. Arrived in Perth and had a jog in the evening, then today went to Rottnest Island which was one of the highlights. It's a 17km or so long island full of lots of little beaches and coves, it's possible to have one all to yourself. Rented a bike and circumnavigated the island, stopping off for a swim and a sunbathe. Coming home on the long journey tomorrow - see you all soon!... read more

Drove with the inimitable Julian up to Coral Bay on the Ningaloo Reef and did a bit of snorkelling. Went down to Shark Bay, visiting Stromatolites and Shell Beach en route. Saw the dolphins there then went down to Cervantes to look at the Pinnacles. Currently in Perth sorting things out for leaving on Friday - might visit Rottnest island tomorrow.... read more

Evening all. Left Kalgoorlie and visited a ghost gold town en route to Sandstone where I stayed overnight. Sandstone is a very isolated small town. Stayed in a caravan and went for a bush walk and saw the London Bridge rock formation. Flies were pretty annoying. Had a beer with the gold miners who were staying there, then had an early night before the long trip to the coast. Arrived in Kalbarri and saw the sunset, then the next day took four Germans I met at the hostel to the Kalbarri National Park to see the Loop and Z bends, which were tremendous. I'm in Coral Bay now - will upload the latest pics asap!... read more

Set off on the long trip to Kalgoorlie-Boulder early on Sunday morning. The roads are endless and featureless, every so often there will be a crest or a bend, then another long road. Stopped in Norseman and Coolgardie on the way. Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the main city in the Goldfields, a town of moderate charm. Visited the super pit. Visited the famous Exchange Hotel. Along with the other drinkers, was invited to pay for the barmaids to get undressed. Turned out they were from Newcastle and Manchester. Today I visited a ghost town, went to the gym then went to the gold mining museum. Setting off towards Kalbarri tomorrow, stopping overnight at a small place called Sandstone.... read more

Just a quick one I'm afraid. Drove up to the Stirling Range and climbed Mount Toolbrunup - what a view! Next day made the long journey to Esperance, which is the coastal gateway to the goldfields. Decided to stay here two nights - today I went to Cape le Grand National Park - pictures below. Saw my first kangaroo. Might have been a wallaby though. Going to Kalgoorlie- Boulder tomorrow. ... read more

Yeah arrived in Pemberton (via quick stop in Busselton), a logging town with some national parks around and a couple of trees you can climb. Lost my bottle on the first (Gloucester) tree I'm afraid and only made it to about 15 metres. The room was in a house and had a decent evening with Ming (Malaysia) and Jo and Stein (Belgium). Next day we went to the Dave Evans Bicentenial tree, a higher one, and I at least made the midway platform. Set off for Walpole and visited Point d'Entrecasteaux and the Tree Top Walk on route. Heading for the Stirling Range tomorrow to climb a peak.... read more

Alright people. Just a text update tonight. I is ere in the small town of Bunbury which is apparently the main town in the South West, though you wouldn't think it. I set off from Perth this morning and went to a supermarket for some nuts, bananas and water. On the way I took a diversion and went on a mini walk into the bush - the Yalgorup national park. Then I arrived in Bunbury where there is a bay where you can swim with dolphins. Went for a swim but they did not come, although I saw a couple after I was back on shore. Then I took a walk on the mangrove swamp boardwalk. Photo to be uploaded later. The hostel (Dolphin Retreat YHA) is very friendly and much better than the place in ... read more

Alright folks. Unable to sleep so came downstairs to use ze interweb. Set off Friday lunch time from Heathrow and took this picture of the plane. Also took a picture when I spotted Amsterdam - I'd know that city anywhere. Met a nice lady on the way on her way to Malaysia. About 14 hours later we landed in Kuala Lumpur and it was morning. Arrived in Perth in the afternoon - took the Perth Shuttle to the hostel then did a bit of exploring. Went to bed at about 10pm Perth time (7 hours in front here) as was knackered, no sleep but have woke up at 1:30am unable to sleep. Not helped by noisy hostel guests letting the door slam shut. Gonna watch football now, then in the morning go for a jog, if ... read more
