Beautiful pictures...loved reading about your adventures..
So believe it or not i stumbled upon your blog by accident, as I had been reading about Ned Kelly and wanted to find pictures of his armor- which you happened to take a picture of and label. :) Glad I stumbled upon it though! My wife and I spent a month in Australia / New Zealand and did quite a bit of the same things you did (Melbourne to Adelaide, Uluru, Cairns, South Mission Beach...). We decided to take the trip as our "dream vacation" before having kids. Just curious, how much did the trip cost overall? I loved reading about the different cultures you experienced...I may actually want to visit South America now! Cheers, -Brian

Bogota
Hi I was raised and born in Bogota, Colombia. I'm very sad to see the comments about the city but sadly you didn't explore half of the city. Candelaria is one of the worst places in Bogota and considering you only stayed one day it doesn't really count to say is the worst city. Bogota has many beautiful places and things to discover, I highly recommend that the next time you go to Colombia you guys go to the North side of the city which is much better, I also recommend you go to San Andres Island is a beautiful place, maybe even nicer than Cartagena. Well I'm glad to see you were able to enjoy most of your trip.

Whew
Tong Po you need to drink more decaffinated coffee. Good grief. I am sure you agree that attrocities were committed by all sides in Vietnam. If a foreign nation came here to help one side in a civil war half the country would hate the "invaders". The spresd of communism was our biggest threat then. Now it is Islamic terrorism. I believe the US involvement in Vietnam was a mistake as it seems now is the involvement in the Middle East. I believe that the US should tell the countries in the Middle East that if those from your country attack the US we will respond violently, as was done in Japan in WWII. Case closed. Enough with this BS guerella war stuff. The US cannot fight that type of war. No one can win a war being fought with a politically correct mentality.

Great article! If you would like to re-live the memories...
I really like you're article, good information dispersed in adventurism and humour. I especially like your comment about Peruvian's and Spanglish... anyone that has spent a decent amount of time in Peru would chuckle at that! We just finished the Lost City and made a video of it for the tour company... check it out if you like... I'm sure it will bring back great memories

My Lai
The VC where the most atrocious?!? Let's not forget about the My Lai massacre where US soldiers killed 506 woman, children and elderly...the youngest of which was 1 year old and the oldest 86. This is only one of countless atrocites commited by the US in Vietnam, and has only come into light because a Soldier essentially commited an act of "treason" in showing the pictures. At first he was scoulded and then he was rewarded after the US and Collin Powell were caught with their pants down. The PTS experienced by the Veterans is hardly what they deserve for what they have done... "just following orders"?!? BS! Everyone has a mind of their own. No American ever puts themselves in the shoes of another but instead justifies it as "liberation" or "democracy". Whenever America invades it's in the name of democracy but whenever another country invades it's TERRORISM. I ask only that the westerners ask themselves what they would do if a foriegn army came into their town preaching "trust us, we are here to save you from your government" as they raped and murdered your neighbors and family in front of you. What side would you chose?... The VC who where supposedly doing it, or the foriegners who were doing it? Americans are the biggest selfish backwards thinking hypocrites in the world, right up there with the Jews and Middle Eastern Islamic Facists... they all hate eachother bcuz they are so alike. And RE: Jim... oh gee wiz not getting to fuck for your whole life, really goes to show what is most important to the western mind (self gratification) Which would you rather have happen to you, your dick cut off, or having your babies head blown off by a foriegn soldier? Look how you all reacted to 911, the "supposed" Islamic terrorists are the same as the US occupation of Vietnam. You all wave your flags so fervently that you blind youselves spouting things like "nuke em" and "turn it into a plate of glass", "kill 'em all" You can't see the forrest for the trees. Should you be expected to simply submit because someone tells you to, like you expected the Vietnamese villagers to do? The US has a law that at any point they can come into your house and occupy it and hold it as a base against invading armies... say the invaders killed all the US soldiers in your house... now you are a sympatizer to the US and will be killed as well... think about it.

defending Bogota too!
I am an American who spent just four days in Bogota last year. I LOVED Bogota. Bogota is also "known" as both one of the most sophisticated AND warmest cities in Latin America. You will hear this from Argentines as well as Central Americans. That combination of soul and sophistication--a rare thing to find-- is why I adored my stay there. Not griping, just saying you should return!
