Good Evening All, Well you have managed to catch me in a reflective mood today; the realisation has hit me that I have only ten days left of my trip yes TEN days. Throughout the duration of my trip I have exerted and air of smugness whenever someone has been in the same sorry situation as I find myself in now... humble pie been tasted. Nevertheless I still have plenty of time left for adventure and that's not to mention the civil war I will be encountering upon exiting Thailand (don't worry Mum its safe i'm just trying ro be dramatic). Rather than depress you let me regale tales of my last few weeks. Ok well I think I wrote my last blog from Vientienne. People had told me not to expect much from Laos' Capital ... read more

Ok, So i'm sorry for not being in touch for a few weeks I apologise but an excuse comes with this apology: 1. I have entered Laos which has either had limited or just damn expensive internet. 2. I have been in Laos and therefore enjoying myself too much to be sat on a computer! But alas here I am in the capital city of Vientienne with a bit of time on my hands and some reasonably priced internet so here goes. The last time I blogged I guess I had jut talked about the dehydration mountain bike trip. Due to the fact I have a lot to write about i'm going to skip over my last week in Cambodia but if you must know I went to Kampot and ate some cheap (and delicious) crab, ... read more

Greetings one and all! Well once again I have been lazy on the blogging front and literally a few people have been crying out for another blog entry so I better give the minority what they want! I have a lot to write about and I am feeling a bit jittery as I just got an electric shock from the USB port of the computer i'm on but I will try my hardest. Following on from Siem Riep I decided to head to the Town of Battambang on the other side of Tonle Sap lake from Siem Riep to ride the infamous Bamboo Train. I decided in typical manner to rent a bicycle (surprise surprise!) and ride to into the middle of the countryside to attempt to find the 'station'. I had been given a rather ... read more

Hi Everyone, Hopefully you are all enjoying the rain back home! So with my Thai visa about to expire (you only get 30 days upon entry!) I decided it was time to head to Thailands smaller, poorer and historically troubled neighbor Cambodia. Having recently read a biography of Pol Pot which went into the history of the Khymer rouge I didn't really know what to expect. I had heard Cambodia was extremely poor and wherever you went you had the heartache of street children and mine victims to contend with... I was about to get my first lesson in Cambodia. I decided to cross the border at the little used northern border with the humorous name of O Smach which conjured up images in my head of Irish drug addicts. As the border is little used ... read more

Good Day to all, Ok, so believe it or not after my jollys on the Islands in the Gulf of Thailand I was getting a little bit sick of the whole 'lonely planet trail'. Even though we knew it could be similar myself and the beard man headed to the western coast (the Andaman) to check that out. Once again we boarded a boat bus combo with all of the other guidebook wielding twenty something farangs (thai word for whities) and headed in the direction of Koh Phi Phi. Upon arrival in the port town of Krabi we were greeted by a massive que off said Farangs waiting to get on the boat to Phi Phi. The two of us looked at each other and in that instance in a haze of fatigue and resentment decided ... read more

Good Day one and all, Greetings from a very hot southern Thailand (it's a face melting 36 degrees centigrade here!). I know once again I have been lazy with my blogging but seriously, it's because of all the fun I have been having. But I havn't forgotten about all of you back home and I hope this latest entry will provide a means of procrastination from what ever you are doing whether that be work, dissertations or generally just a break from the television for the lazier of my friends. As stated in my previous entry the intrepid explorer was about to head south on the not so intrepid backpakcer/lonely planet/banana pancake trail (for want of a better word). My first stop was to be Koh Tao, the smallest island in a three island archipeligo that ... read more

Hello Everyone or should I say Sawat Dii, Many things have happened since my last post... I believe where I last left off was Hampi and Hyderabad? I'm not sure but my last week in India was actually relatively uneventful. I went to the coastal down of Puri expecting to find a nice beach but instead found an open air toilet and in Kolkata I was just doing boring things like posting home a parcel (and you don't want to hear about that!). I did however spend a night and a day at Asia's largest lagoon where I saw the rare Irawaddy dolphin and spent some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of Puri. So instead of going into detail about this i'm going to jump right into Thailand! Ok, my flight from Kolkata ... read more

Greetings Everyone, I hope you are all well and looking forward to the onset of spring back in the western world! Hampi... What can I say about Hampi other than it is probably one of the best places I have EVER been to. Before I go into what I did there I will give you an insight into hat it is all about. So It used to be the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire up until 1565 when it was obliterated by the Muslim invaders (you see not only do you get light humor with my bog you also learn something). What is left now is a cohort of different builidings including temples, royal residency's and bazaars that wouldn't look out of place in ancient Greece. All of this in a landscape of boulders that looks ... read more

Hello All, Once again I apologise for the lack of contact with you all but this time I have a solid reason... I have been ill! Upon arrival in Mamallapuram I pretty much straight away came down with some sort of flu (possibly of the swine variety... who knows). This therefore left me bed bound for 3 days; subsequently meaning I don't have a lot to write about!... but I shall do my best. So I was meeting an American bloke by the name of Damien that I met in Varkala in Mamallapuram as our paths were going to be crossing so on the last day we were supposed to be spending there (after I got over the flu) we decided to hit some sights. In order to maximise how much we could see in a ... read more

Good Day All, Greetings from Pondicherry; I have been moving around quite a bit in the last week so brace yourselves for a lot of action in a short space of time. As you may or may not know India is full of bloody temples and to be honest i'm sick of the things. Once I had seen the Golden Temple in Amritsar I thought I wouldn't bother going out of my way to see a temple in India again. However after some advice off fellow travelers and a consultation with the bible (lonely planet) I thought I should go and see the temples at Madurai. After an arduous bus journey from Kanyakumari I arrived in the largish city of Madurai which was actually my first big city in over a month and a half. The ... read more
