From Battanbang we went for the second time to Phom Penh, for joining our new friends met in Sen Monorom. Everybody in the streets, going out and celebrating the Water Festival (4 days of national holidays). The whole city was even more busy and noisy than usually :) We spent the afternoon with our Cambodian Boys and their friends, drinking some local beers. Later on, we had a dinner in a local restaurant / Bar / nightclub... all in one. This place was full of young Cambodian women dressed very sexy and each table (but not ours=JB :-(((( ) was occupied [View Full Entry]

In our post last week, we told you that we had a bus ticket for the 3/4 of our next trip to Sen Monorom, far East of Cambodia... After that stop at 130km away from our destination, we planed to catch a mini-bus. This mini-bus left our station 2 hours earlier than our bus... Not synchronized at all... So when we arrived at 1pm, people in the station told us, we had 2 options: either sleep in the village and wait for the mini-bus next day at 11am or wait at the corner of the road for a pick-up that goes [View Full Entry]

Since our last post, we've traveled quite a lot ! We left Hoi An in Vietnam, by an overnight train to Saigon. We shared our compartment with 4 other people, again a guy from the Army ! Train was very slow but in revenge beautiful landscape of rice fields. People were very nice and quiet, common properties less dirty than in China ;-) After this 19 hours trip, we got to Ho Chi Minh / Saigon, huge city with more than 5 millions inhabitants. We found it less chaotic than Hanoi, the capital, still many motorbikes but with a bit more [View Full Entry]

Good morning Vietnam! To avoid Hanoi, the busy noisy smoggy capital of Vietnam, we made a 3 days trip by boat to Tu Long Bay (as beautiful as Halong Bay, but some way more beautiful, because of few tourism development for the moment). It was too complicated to organize by ourselves, so decided to join a tour. We were a small group of 7 people, and did cycle around and visited some hidden beaches on an almost inhabited island! Last beach we saw, was back in Vladivostok:) so we enjoyed every single wave:P We stayed at a fisherman's house for 2 [View Full Entry]

We have just arrived in Hanoi / Vietnam yesterday night. The last couple of days we stopped in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Let's say the trip was less interesting than previous ones in terms of people interactions, since we only traveled by planes... As we said, it was just impossible to get a train tickets due to the National Day! Shanghai is an interesting city. French and English used to "occupy" the city last century. Some buildings in the center look like the ones in London and in Paris... There is also a traditional Chinese area, where we walked a lot [View Full Entry]

Soon going to leave Tibet... It's a unique touching experience with everlasting memories. You don't leave Tibet the same way as you entered. We are between happiness and sadness. Today, we only show you our positive impressions and later more other 'details... In Tibet, we arrived by train. That was really different from the Trans-Siberian train... We spent 3 days and 2 nights with always 6 people in a compartment, no doors, and sharing 2 toilets with 60 persons, cool. After 1 night the whole train was dirty and no one to clean ! Lucky for us that we took the [View Full Entry]

We arrived in China by boat...the view we got when arriving near the Chinese coast was very amazing.... not from the landscape point of view, more from the huge industrial view, with its thousands of ships, cranes and his fast expansive structure everywhere... really busy and important market out there.... This boat between Kobe and Tianjin was more confortable than the one we took from Vladivostok to Toyama in Japan... We were around 60 passengers and we met a Wales couple, travelling for one year around Asia and an English guy living in Los Angeles. Actually it was good to have [View Full Entry]

Finalizing our wonderful staying in Japan :((( We wish we could stay longer... but definitely we'll come back and we strongly recommend you to visit the country... People, culture, food, countryside, cities, shopping, so many topics are surprising and interesting! We visited 2 opposite cities: Kyoto and Osaka. First, Kyoto looks like the very traditional Japonese city. It was saved from bombing during the 2nd World War and so many part of the city are aged. It's an amazing place to visit Buddhist temples and cycling around. We could finally do bicycle the whole day until we didn't fell o [View Full Entry]

Yes we made it through the russian borders in Vladivostok for the boat to Japan! We were lucky with the weather... we enjoyed the sunny weather, blue sky on the deck of the ship surrounded by the big japan ocean, very calm sea ! The ships main business is to carry cars from japan to russia...so tourist transportation is not the priority...we were only 30 guests (mostly Russians, no tourists) and 100 workers on the huuuge boat.... The Russian guys on the boat looked like smugglers in Guy Richies movies doing business between 2 countries ;-) We were lucky to see [View Full Entry]

Yes, Yes, Yes, We did it !!! 9289km by train !!! Finally arrived in Vladivostok ;-) For the second part of the Trans-Siberian, we shared the room with a ... military guy !!! Funny, in Russia, we've met almost only people working in the Marines... It's like in this country, if you can't become a gangster... euh meaning an Oligark, you're future is in the Army !!! With this guy, Vova, we experienced the same type of relationship as we already did here: you need 2 days to start having a friendly relationship even if we didn't share the same language...
