Travelling - From: Ashgabat to Tashkent
Hello, Me and a friend are planning on going to Ashgabat by airplane and the further on to Samarkand, I was just wondering if you have any idea about how to travel to Samarkand? Do you know whether there are any busses/trains or else vehicles (preferrably not flights) going this way? Do you know where to find more info on this topic? Please answer by sending an email. Thanks! Sincerely, Daniel Lumparn

Welcome Home - From: The Big "E" and beyond!
You must be exhausted and glad to get back to running water, flush toilets, showers and baths, and your own bed, but with wonderful memories of your excursion. I will be fascinated to hear a detailed report at some point. Your running accounts have been wonderful - most descriptive. Love, Vicki

Hello from Green with Envy, Cricklewood - From: And so into Tibet
Well, Woods Farm actually but Cricklewood sounded better....How amazing but I hope you don't get biffed by Texans reading your blogs - even if they do deserve exposure! We had one like that in the Galapagos but more later! It's terrific to read about your adventures. We're feeling rather sad & shocked as Jane's Dad died a week last Friday - and so the moral is carpe diem and then do it all again! Come back safe (the Purbecks will be missing you by now) but have a breeze in the meantime!!! Much love ZnCxxxx

Great to read another amazing report and know you are still experiencing a lot of Wow factor. It's good that you will have so many pictures to sort out on return, it will help you come down to earth again while you relive it. I am sure it will take a while to absorb all the sights and sounds into lovely memories. Hope the nausea doesn't return as you get to Base Camp. It's getting quite autumnal here, heavy dew in the morning, and nights drawing in, although we are promised a bit more sun this week. We thought we'd look out for the meteor showers this week, so think of us on a hill somewhere looking north east! Love Di and John

Chips Margaret? What will Ian say? Did you know that Longs in Wimborne are doing buy one portion of Cod and Chips get one free, at the moment. Can I book you both to do a fundraising event in the Hall one evening. I am sure it would raise money for some cause very dear to your heart now you have witnessed such spectacular scenery and met such lovely people. We all look forward to seeing masses of pictures and hearing about the trip warts and all. See you very soon, Oliver and Sarah's wedding on Saturday! love Carol and Rod x

Just enjoying a G&T - From: Tashkent to Bishkek - Minarets to Mountains
What a fantastic trip you're having. Will we recognise these two hardened travellers when they get back to Blighty?! Will you ever settle again and will your comfortable squashy mattress be too soft and you'll prefer sleeping outside in the garden in a tent - after knocking back the voddy in one??? Mare's milk might be difficult to get though.... We have wanderlust too but not to these extremes. Were hoping to join a tour to Mongolia with an expert on Genghis Khan but sadly the dates don't work this year. Planning it for next year now but hopefully with limited exposure to hard ground and alpha males & females! Looking forward to seeing you in September. Much love ZnCxxxx

Painting with words - From: Tashkent to Bishkek - Minarets to Mountains
Just to say we are following your adventures with interest and even without photos your observations give us a wonderful "flavour" and view of your experiences. It does help that we have watched Michael Palin though and it seems that you may have bumped into the same characters or even camels!Iain & Co are having a good, hot time in Turkey by all accounts. Weather here has gone "off" - wind and heavy showers. We did have a lovely barbeque in your garden, expertly cooked by Iain, before we went to Azores for Ian's 60th! We are so looking forward to seeing and hearing more about your trip

Surpassing your expectations - From: Tashkent to Bishkek - Minarets to Mountains
Well done on your outstanding reports on the last two legs of the trip. It is probably good that the scenery has changed completely now from minarets to mountains to keep the variety going. We are glad that your health, energy and enthusiasm are keeping up. To judge from your vivid descriptions the whole experience is probably surpassing your expectations. You are also getting a taste for strong liquor! Yellowtail will never be the same after this. After our little bit of welcome heat here it has all gone pear-shaped with the Jet Stream getting stuck over us again as school holidays start. Really heavy rain showers, then hot sun, so you don't know what to wear or whether to be indoors or in the garden. I'm afraid MP expenses have been replaced by increase in Swine Flu and the serious situation on Afghanistan. Lots of love Di and John

Another WOW installment - From: Esfahan to Ashgabat
Your comments are fascinating and I'm learning so much about this region of the country - and it all sounds much more liveable and reasonable than we read in the newspapers. You should be writing for the press and giving a true to life picture of what the country is really all about. I always look forward to the next update - this is much better than any soap opera!!! Terrific! - From: Ashgabat to Tashkent
Hi Both - pleased you're safe - any jelly bellies yet?? All looks awe inspiring and wonderful - don't envy the two day trip in the desert! Yes, we're having hot weather - but hasn't reached the 40's yet!!! Actually it's pissed with rain today - a relief - no watering the veg needed AND we are beginning to eat them. It's Mike's 40th today, so they've been here for a couple of nights and off to that posh hotel near Sandbanks ferry tonight. We gave him a couple of hours surfing tuition, so he's a very happy boy! Up to Amanda's at the weekend, as George is being christened. Taking up the reat grandparents, so loo stops will be every hour - think the raised toilet seat has to go too! Oh what joy!! Continue to have fun and lots of adventures Lots love and hugs xxx

From Dorset - From: Ashgabat to Tashkent
At last another wonderful update on your travels.I felt the hot breath of the desert and also the hot breath of the camels, you bring it to life for us.You both look as if you have lost weight? Is that what it takes? Weight watchers on a bus! Yes it has been warm here and the months are speeding by.Today is Rod's 58 th birthday and its Monday so work as usual for him and me.We are going to a Concert this evening in Wimborne, Rod's choice and follow up with a take away! Holtwood fete last Saturday was fun making £2,260 and having good local support. Sarah brought her Mum down last weekend and we enjoyed her company, taking her on a trip round the Purbecks and supper out in the evening.Oliver and Sarah collected their wedding rings from Corfe Castle Jewellers ( Fair Trade , of course CRED ) Daniel has passed an all importeant Trailer test which will add to his driving CV and also to his confidence. We are enormously proud of his achievement. My Mum has just returned from Lake Garda with an elderly chum having enjoyed the week. Take care and much love from us both xx

Talk about being where the action is ! We have been watching the news and are very glad to hear that you are both well and that you have been looked after. The National Jewell museum sounded fantastic and you will have to describe it to us on return. Rod and I have been down to Cornwall to stay with Rose and Mike who have put in an offer on a little house in Plymouth. We wait with interest to see if the survery confirms the offer of a mortgage!! Lots of decorating and gardening to do. Keep enjoying and storing up wonderful memories. Loads of love Carol and Rod x

Dear Margaret and James - I feel like you won't be the only ones to have gained from this trip , we are learning so much about the places you are visiting and why you wanted to go there. I could just do with some sparkly fabric to tone in with my wedding outfit!. We are relieved you are away from Tehran though, our esteemed BBC Correspondents are now talking about the smell of tear gas and further trouble. Can't believe you've been gone a month. It's the longest day here and rather dull for sitting out to watch the sunset. Lots of love Di and John

Safe and Sound - From: Tehran
Yes, we have been concerned as there has been many interesting news articles on TV. The weeks are flying past and you are obviously having the BEST time.Work here is dire at the moment and today I went online to gaze at pictures of your travels. Singapore Airways are offering very cheap flights to OZ and their website crashed as soon as I got onto it as I hope to go again in March 2010.I will keep trying! We are thinking so especially of a little two year old girl called Isabelle who is very poorly indeed at the moment and is in Southampton Hospital undergoing Chemotherapy.Grandma lives at Hinton Martell.Jenny, Grandma , is very grateful fo all the care shown. Rod and I are going down to Saltash at the weekend to stay with Rose and Mike. Rose is singing in a Choir which she has joined. They are house hunting and Rose is job hunting again. However, she remains very happy and they are good together. Mike is heavily into extra exam marking to swell their funds. We all look forward to seeing new photos of the next installment and ask that you keep well and that Our God goes with you.? Remember Dave Allen. love to u both x Rod and Carol

What cool travellers! - From: Tehran
Hello, well, we weren't worried because we thought you'd already left! So now we are worried that you have another day to go! I'm reading a book about Iran at the moment and it's fascinating. Did you get to Persepolis? The author also says that crossing the roads are certainly an ordeal....it's great that between the Odhams' reporting and this story, we don't have to visit the place ourselves. Continue having a terrific time and enjoy the hotel comforts while you can. Keep safe out there. Lol ZnCxxxx

Great Blog! - From: Goreme to Esfahan
We're really enjoying your news - you are very good at conveying information plus the excitement of it all. I can see you becoming a published author on return! Nothing that exciting to report here. We did have a mini heatwave last week which actually happened in Bank Holiday week. We've made up for it since with loads of rain. It coincides with us buying a greatly reduced gas barbie from our local Garden Centre, so it's obviously our fault for thinking we could use it! Hope all continues well for you both.Love Di and John

far away people - From: Goreme to Esfahan
Hello to our intrepid travellers and thanyou for taking the time to tell us so much. It must take a lot of your time but is so appreciated. It is cold here and I have put on the heating as was shivering when I came in from work. ( Dont tell Rod )I have read and re read your latest chapter and as expected you are both the life and soul of the group.I am slimming again so I also am having an invisable G & T every evening!! I will raise an invisable glass to you both this evening.I found it amazing to hear all these Biblical names coming into your everyday chatter. What an adventure. At the weekend Rod had a fitting for the suit worn to Olivers wedding. On Sunday evening we joined worship at Verwood Church as Chris and Joy were there for the weekend celebrating Verwood.s Centenary.Chris preached and Ralph shared. It was sublime to Chris and Joy again.Steven is struggling a bit in the school placement but hopes to find a better job in September.I have been thinking of Lucy and hope she is having luck with interviews for next year. I am taking Mum to Winchester shopping tomorrow, wish I was with you in the nice Hotel with the hairdryer! God bless and love Carol x and Rod x

Things all good here. Love you both! Helen x x x

Hello from Thames side! - From: Goreme to Esfahan
Ab Fab to read about the Odhamses doin's. You make us all feel (a) jealous (b) boring and (c) that we suddenly have uncontrollably itchy feet. We're in London for a week goin' to theatre & exhibs etc. Most exciting happenin's today are that I confronted 3 hoodies climbing over our security gate from the towpath and caused a broo ha ha; and the dogs have just upset C's cup of tea onto the carpet (why does that ring a bell?!). News here is full of Brown's no doubt imminent departure from No 10 with entertaining headlines from the tabloids such as "Meltbrown" etc etc and abysmal election results for Labour. James will be pleased to know that we voted twice by the way - as recommended by your MP for Devon! Expect that all seems like a different world now and so time to sign off. Keep on truckin' and bloggin' (and also enjoying yourselves!). We look forward to the next episode. Lol ZnCnPnLPxxx

greetings from Dorset - From: Turkey
Dear Margaret and James, it was so interesting and funny to read your first entry and to visualise you there. What a good thing that your travel companions prove so easy to get on with as that could be a real challenge if not.Its bad enough if you have to rub along at work with people but not something you would do by choice. The weather here has been quite lovely recently but now is about to turn very cold again. Rose is coming home this weekend as she and Mike are invited to a wedding of her close friend Lisa.Unfortunately the weather for Saturday 6 th June is not supposed to be very good at all.Dave and Fra are here tomorrow as they are staying en route to Gurnsey where her sister lives (in the lap of luxury)!Dave says that I just have to come home from work at 6.00pm and he will cook us a meal. They will stay again on the way back next week.We\ look forward to hearing more news if and when you have time.God bless you both, and love Rod and Carol and indeed all your friends in the UK !!!!! and Oz !!!
