The evening of my last blog, we went up the pier on Kowloon, which faces the Island to view the nightly "Symphony of Sound" which is a laser show set to music where all the buildings on Hong Kong Island come "alive". It was pretty busy and it was easy to see why, it was very impressive and cool to see green lasers shoot up from the Skyscrapers into seemly space. It was prime oppotunity for our cameras to be tested and we fought through the riot that was gathering to take a self time picture on the edge of the [View Full Entry]

Victoria Peak, Night
Me at Victoria Peak

We are in Hong Kong!!! Since my last blog we took another emotional walk down the Bund for one last time, got ourselves a Beer and overlooked the Pearl Tower at night. Then we went out to a club which was nice and cheap, a good night. In the morning we had to catch our flight to Hong Kong, we sadly left our hostel which we had really enjoyed staying in, great location, good rates, good rooms and walked for one last time through the centrel area of Shanghai. For the first time we felt like true travellers. We had got [View Full Entry]

Chinese New Year Asia » China » Shanghai
Free Bar. When combined the two worst words in the English language. Last night was Chinese New Year, and we went to clud offering just that after an 11GBP cover charge. Whilst myself and Rick were reasonable merry and enjoying ourselves, Ross and Nick were a little more worst for wear. Jonny was taking full advantage of the free Vodka and Lime. One thing is for sure, the Chinese love new year. In the time since my last blog we have been exploring Shanghai. On Tuesday explored one of the city's main market areas, much to everyone's approval. We also all [View Full Entry]

The Boy Band and it's fan club

Ok, its been a while I know, but we've been doing loads of travelling in the last 9 days. We have travelled by Boat, Taxi, Metro, Ferry, Bus, Bike and Train Firstly we left Chongquing, which after we found the nice part of town turned out quite nice to be honest. We left there at 7am to catch a bus to take us to Wanzhou to catch a ferry to Yichang. Complicated I know, not the greatest time to be travelling either seeing how the whole of China is going home for New Year, and the weather is awful. To put [View Full Entry]

The Yanzi River Cruise
The Epic Train!
All Aboard

Hello, I am in Chongqing in China. Home to 32 million people on the banks of the River Yanzi. And you've nevr heard of it probably. It's a huge industrial city plighted by pollution, smog and ugly grey buildings. Luckily we're only here for 1 night before we head up the Yanzi river on a cruise up to Yanching tomorrow. In stark contrast, Chengdu where we spent 2 nights was surprisely pleasant. After finding the central shopping area, we had a huge all-american burger, it was heaven. The five of us took a romantic walk around downtown Chengdu in the snow [View Full Entry]

We also visited the Terrocotta Army about 60 km East of Xi'an. The tomb dates back 100's of years and was an army designed to protect the grave of the First Dynasty Emperor. It was amazing and one of my top things that I wanted to see on this trip. Over 5000 individually carved and panited statues is quite a sight. The bus trip to the sight was also reasonably entertaining. Chinese drivers have little care at all where they are on the road, as lng as there is room to drive. Look at the pictures it is hard to put [View Full Entry]

Culture Shock and a 5 star Hotel. Asia » China » Shaanxi » Xi'an
Well, I'm writing this from an internet Cafe in Xi'an. Following my last blog entry we have visited The Summer Palace in Beijing, which is located on the shores of a lake. As the winter chill has now set in in Beijing the lake was froken, so we were able to safely walk across, all except Nick who nearly fell in. As a gift, James who had been looking after us in Beijing surprised us with a night in the Swissotel, a 5 Star hotel in the East of the City. Whilst the others all made the most of the facilites [View Full Entry]

Landed!! Asia » China » Beijing
Hey to everyone reading this. We are here safely and having a fantastic time. On Thursday night we took an evening walk past the Forbidden City and Tiana'men Sq. It was very cold and we all bought some coats, and was actually snowing on Thursday. We also had some v. traditional Chinese food which invovled Peking duck! Yesterday we went back and actually went into the City, it was amazing and felt very strange to be somewhere so peaceful in such a large City. We them went to the Sq again and like typical tourists gor lots of pictures, which I [View Full Entry]
