After 6+ years of adding Slavic spice to the environmental education programmes at the WWT London Wetland Centre, there was a danger of succumbing to the well known life-distracter sometimes known as 'natural career progression in management'.
Wanting to reawaken and start a new, different cycle I am flying (carbon footprint covered) southwest - via Argentina and Australasia, on route to Himalayan region.
The 'sensible' part comes disguised as research for Masters in Science Education and exchange of experiences with colleagues in the field.
The rest is as open as infinity...and beyond.

Hi all. Hope you are all well. Just an update from London. In spite of the injured right hand (what were gods trying to tell the writer?) and inner conflicts worthy of Dostoyevski...it is done. This Masters will not be shortlisted for Pullitzer or Nobel but hey. I stayed awake restless on adrenalline and for the last few weeks on Mate tea, so that's gracias Argentina. Anyway...should be back in civilised world and in touch after I return from Croatia mid September. Hugs. Irena ... read more

I was just watching the news from the Beijing olympic torch parade India. I can see that the Tibetan contingent in India is facing what looks like riot preparations. The pro-Tibet demo in London had some unexpected moments and the reporting was even more interesting. Media focused on 'attacks' on the torch and the Chinese police runners. Police was jittery and managed to push the small Chinese group right against the Tibet demonstrators in Whitehall. There was no mention of the Argyle square peacefull concert/gathering and the 'alternative torch'. The torch is meant to pass through Tibet 19-21st June. On the 21st there will be a meeting with HH Dalai Lama in Westminster so keep an eye for associated events. For more info you may want to have another look at www.avaaz.org. They are currently focusing ... read more

Hi family, this is the quickest way to reach the widest group of my friends...so here it goes. Update: I am currently working part-time at the Science Museum and stressing out the rest of the time about the inability of my dissertation to write itself + the general lack of financial strategy. More importantly I am thinking of all my Tibetan friends and send my support and love their way. To the UK crew: If you can, watch the channel 4 Dispatches documentary on Tibet this Monday (31st) at 8pm. Could someone please record it as I will be joining the Tibet Society in front of the Chinese Embassy (Portland Street, Regent's Park end)at 6.30. If you can/feel it...come too for the night vigil. Otherwise i hope you can find time to join the demo ... read more

To all my friends, family, lamas, fellow travellers and conservationists... Today the darkness makes way for the return of light in this part of the world - so, HAPPY SOLSTICE! to all the parts of the hemisphere who share this event !...and start enjoying the longer stargazing to others. I have certainly felt the darkness in the last two months. But the ambers of 'force seem to still hold on in this one' and I have not completely gone to the dark side, yet. I have learned to live on little and am sussing out the beehive: honey gathering-flying (to flowers) choices. Buzz is still like goo in London. But as well as loadsamoney being thrown about on too much stuff I have seen more smiles, hugs and thinking of others. Well that's it. My wishes ... read more

Closing the circle

...this travelblogs visual journey sort of started with Croatian visit. I was saying farewell to my parents, before riding into a sunrise...I visited my family again to re-enrol into "normal" (ha! ?) flow. Most people I have had a chance to re-hug have noted that a year has gone sooooo quickly. Never mind, I can feel another one coming... Well, if you travel over a ball you are bound to get beck where you started, I suppose. Especially if the road has deep channels from previous uses. Unless there is a whole in the ball, or you fall off, or there is some sort of glue...or you find a way of changing dimensions. After few weeks back in London and finally starting to feel that there are too many threads dangling around, as well as danger ... read more

Arrived. In London. To all the London crew: I will be in Barnes - Red Lion pub on wednesday...if you can make it...see you there. To my friends and "family" abroad, all over the globe... I'll try and continue writing these touch-down diary notes + pictures from London to keep in touch...if you want. For now..just my first few days of getting back to London life. I'm trying to morph and adjust to the speed of everything around me... I have been devouring food and breathing faster. A few days of trying to catch up with university administration and job search in London has showed me that it is going to be difficult to stop and slow down, or ensure "selfish" time. From his side, my nephew Nicholas has been keeping me involved and switched on ... read more
